Gomez,

It seems like every finesse pitcher that comes up now days gets compared to Maddox. Maddox is/was a very special athlete who could field and throw.

I don't think he will ever have a Maddox career. Watching Joe run to cover first is scary to say the least.

However, my point was that losing to Blanton is no shame. He is a very good pitcher. Probably the best pitcher on the A's staff not named Harden.

Ironically, Blanton had a better ERA last year than Randy Johnson.

So Felix was up in the zone, frequently missed his spots, and his velocity was about 2-3 mph less than we're used to. And the A's still couldn't do much other than make him leave after 5 instead of 7 or 8.

Good times.

Don't be dissing on Blanton. He was, after all, the second player the A's took in the Moneyball draft.

"Blanton isn't this good people"

"91 mph fastballs that don’t move very well. That’s basically all Blanton is throwing. The heck? This should be relative batting practice to major league hitters."

"We’re guessing badly and making him look like a Cy Young candidate."

" If it’s against Randy Johnson, I’m fine with it.
Against Joe Blanton, I’m screaming."

Funny quotes when Sexton said Blanton's fastball would come out of the dugout and break over the plate. Last year, Blyleven said Blanton had the best right handed curve in the AL. Blyleven would know a thing or 2 about a right handed curve. After a tough May, Blanton's June-on ERA was 2.5.

He is a very good pitcher and should have had 15-18 wins last year in his rookie year had the A's not put up fewer runs per game for him than any pitcher since 1984.

He does not have the stuff Felix has, but who does? Still, Blanton has very deceptive stuff to the average fan.

The Mariners score a grand total of 0 runs against the A's, and Willie Bloomquist just so happens to be in the line up.

Coincidence? I think not.

I blame Willie. He brings some kind of weird negative aura to the lineup.

Everything is Willie's fault.

Er, that didn't come out right at all. I need to hire an editor.

I was referring to someone at the feed saying that WFB was hitting on his girlfriend. So, that was supposed to be, "Hey, he just doesn't stop!"

Sorry, Deanna. Feel free to thwap me really hard next time you see me. Maybe my brain will start working again if you do.

Hey DW, I went to you link on your name and I could not keep this private so I'll say this and I hope you read it before our friendly moderators delete it but please read your last post. Why would you insult someone like that?
