FIVE homeruns in that first (shutout) game of the doubleheader (2 by Dobbs, 1 by Morse, 1 by Bohn, 1 by Brown) and a really nice pitching performance by Baek, who Curto says has changed his mechanics...I'm hoping this new and improved Baek sticks aroundHe only faced 2 more batters than minimum thru his 5 innings pitched, walked 2 and gave up 1 double. Rivera went 2-3 in that game also, with hardhit balls to right and left (he missed a homerun to right by about 5' height....) Sweet. then, 2nd game, 6-0 with 2 more homeruns - another by Dobbs and a 3 run shot by Sears. And another excellent throw by Rob Johnson to end a stolen base attempt. Man, he's got a quick release and some fine accuracy from what I've seen so far. So Tacoma goes 4-0 to start off the season. What else would he mean? OK, he's said a lot of stupid things but I don't think this is one of them. I think it's the kind of thing a purported "clubhouse leader" should say. Washington has watched Hargrove's teams in Cleveland, Baltimore and now Seattle. One week into the 2006 season, Washington, Oakland's third base coach, can see a measurable difference in Hargrove's Mariners. "This is the kind of team Mike had in Cleveland; they really try to take it to you," Washington said before Friday's game. "He's got the young talent to do it with. "And now they're playing with a lot of excitement, a lot of confidence. They play really good, solid defense; now we'll have to see if they can handle the pressure of the season.
