One poster on this fine blog suggested that Everett had compromising photos of Hargrove. I guess if that were true we would have seen them unless Carl is satisfied enough that Hargrove did everything in his power to keep Carl.

Dinosaurer boy was the designated out instead of the designated hitter. It only took $4 million wasted dollars, plus three prospects to Cleveland to actually get one/two designated hitters to take the place of Dinosauer Boy. It is hard to muster up any confidence in a front office that has no idea how to develop a roster, and a manager who has no idea how to manage a roster.

Hmph. Everett was Hargrove's choice. Lawton and Petagine were decent enough choices that Hargrove refused to use.

Bavasi has problems, but Hargrove's inexplicable choices dwarfs them.

#24. Of course Thomas was an upgrade. I have no idea why anyone would want Everett on their team. I just don't think Thomas is the guy you should be comparing him to.

buying clubhouse leadership, grit, and hustle is a fool’s errand

well, apparently he did give them that clubhouse leadership they wanted-- unfortunately it was tied to an inability to hit, but that might not be enough to keep someone like Hargrove from continuing to want to pay for 'veteran leadership'

Nice inferiority complex, M’s fan

Duhhhrrr.

The Big Hurt is obviously a bargain, but I wouldn’t think he’d have much luck hitting home runs out of Safeco.

Assume, for a minute, that your premise is entirely correct, and all his value would be hitting on the road.

Carl, away: .231/.282/.350
Thomas, away: .259/.392/.446

You don't think that's a substantial upgrade? Really?

To me it shows the same kind of foolishness that Bavasi displayed when he signed Mo Vaughn. It's like he picks big names out of a hat without regard to what the player's actual ability is and then throws money at them. I'm trying to think of one free agent signing Bavasi has made that wasn't greatly overpaying a player relative to his worth ... not so much the bench guys but everyday players. Ibanez, Everett, Washburn, Speizio, Sexson, Beltre, picking up Guardado's option ...

Nice inferiority complex, M's fans. The Big Hurt is obviously a bargain, but I wouldn't think he'd have much luck hitting home runs out of Safeco. Instead, be sad the M's didn't sign a lefty that people thought could hit.
