It was only one at-bat, but I wasn't terribly thrilled that Jimenez gave up that homerun to Gregg Zaun. Zaun hadn't hit ANY from the right side all season (granted - Bengie got most of those opportunities), and Jays analyst Rance Mullincks actually said during the game, "I honestly didn't think Gregg was capable of hitting a homerun to the opposite field from the right side."

I missed this debacle, thank god. My girlie was there on some comp tickets from work. I got a text from her just before 3pm, saying merely: "Are you watching this shit?"

Hey look, DW speaks Irish. Actually the Irish Gaelic for king is Ri (with a faidhe over the "i"); what's the precise etymology for Ryan?

So Ryan Feierabend (I look forward to future spelling enforcement of that name) has a surname that means “evening celebration.” It’s colloquial German for “end of the workday.”

And Ryan is from the Irish for "king."

So, his name can be paraphrased as "King Quittin' Time" or "King Happy Hour."

Hmmm. Let's check in to see scores, maybe watch the M's play tonight. . . . whoops. 10-0?! Maybe the Mariners can switch to the NL.

Teeny consolation: the Angels lost 9-0 to the White Sox. Could thing we don't have to play in Chicago again this season.

Oh. Wait.

It's bad enough they lose so much, but these truly humiliating shutouts happened waaaaay too often this year. Mortifying.

115- I understand what you are saying, but I don't expect Willie to start over Lopez.

Lopez is our 2nd baseman and he will be in 2007 no matter who the manager is.

If this means Grover stays and I am Jose Lopez, I am sweating bullets. Poor second half, the one and only Willie B playing way too much...

of course, with a man of Newman's heft, a knee would have been bad enough :)

Andrew Miller is in the game for Detroit on ESPN...

it wasn't Newman's knee-- "Third base coach Jeff Newman needs surgery to repair a partially torn left Achilles tendon and will miss the rest of the season. Newman has been slowed by pain in his left ankle over the past month, and tests this week showed a 60 percent tear in the Achilles tendon. Team medical director Dr. Larry Pedegana recommended surgery to prevent a complete rupture."
