My theory.

Why did Hargrove bring in Pineiro to cough up the grand slam? As punishment for going out and partying the night before. Pineiro thinking he'd done enough damage in one series, went out on the town. Hargrove, miffed at this, figured he'd have one last chance to irrefutably ruin any MLB career beyond September 2006.

And by "facts" I meant "points."

Sorry that my over-all gist wasn't able to get threw due to my misuse o one word. My bad.

But thanks for spelling it out clear that Hargrove's not returning next year!

Or, actually, not doing said thing....

Those facts are interesting, but also conjecture.

Um, yeah.

Ya might want to look over what you wrote again; you're not making a whole lot of sense.

Those facts are interesting, but also conjecture. Perhaps I'm not making myself clear: I am simply not optimistic that Hargrove will be fired.

If there was concrete-like handwriting-on-the-wall then I would be as relieved and assured as you seem to be. I'm sure if it occurs, the announcement will be swift and sudden, link the plop of a frozen airplane commode.

Oh, and btw most of my perspective on the team comes from following this site. I don't bother with the M's site unless links come up through here. And I live in Portland, that every now and then does a locally-written analysis, in The Oregonian, but I never read the coverage in the Seattle papers- unless its through this site. So I've had access to a good amount of information (this site is pretty invaluable), yet I'm coming to a different, pesimistic conclusion.

If Hargrove's back next spring I'm going to be pretty irate at those who got my hopes up. But I'm going to be more irate at Bavasi and Hargrove, the freakin' Wonder Twins...

I want to believe you. So… make me believe you.

If you don't want to believe it, then anything he says won't be convincing.

The thing is...ANY plausible scenario can be spun out of the known facts. Rohn gone? Lincoln told Bavasi to let him go because he was insubordinate. Hassey gone? Could be that Hargrove could stay only if he fired all his coaches [which doesn't work anyway]...or that Hargrove and Hassey were given the choice to leave now or at the end of the year, and Hargrove decided to wait until the end of the year.

The team HAS done better than last year...but the team was often not prepared and they didnt play well against divisional opponents. Bavasi is known to be loyal to employees---but that means he's not going to stick a knife in their back in public. ANd it is known that Hargrove was not Bavasi's choice for skipper...and that he is not well liked by the players (including the star of the team).

Really, you can make ANY kind of case out these facts.

Then where's the case for Hargrove's firing? Is it something akin to reading tea leaves, or is there blatant, obvious evidence that Hargrove is going to be absent from the Mariners' dugout next season?

DMZ, the problem with stating that Hargrove won't be around next season despite all the signs pointing to the contrary is that its getting peoples' hopes up.

#120 I would tend to trust DMZ and the rest. They know more than we do.

All we have to go on is a few Steve Kelly articles and some other Seattle newspaper specualtion.

Derek is more accurate and on the ball than Steve "Doh!" Kelly.

Well Derek don't be disappointed when he doesn't get fired. The Mariners are improved by 6 wins already so as long as that happens he's not going to get fired. So face the facts and don't be disappointed.

Asserting that it will be so does not ensure that it will be so.

I obviously disagree.

Yeah, DMZ, like it or not. Hargrove will be back.

To underscore my feeling s about how much that sad, cold fact scares me and fills me with complete bile and digust, chew on the consideration that his buddy, Ron Hassey, was his sacrifical lamb so that he can maintain his job.

Hargrove wanted Rohn- Bavasi's guy- gone. For Bavasi to relent, Hargrove has to get rid of one of his guys, and thus Mike threw Ron under the bus. What a pal!

So, sadly, this means the dynamic dup of Bavasi-Hargrove are working together to fill these coaches' spots in the organization.

All of this could mean nothing- Hargrove could still get fired *fingers crossed* But it aint happeneing.

Besides, it took three consecutive late-season collapes in Baltimore before he was told to 'git.' In the eyes of the M's brain trust, and of your average fan, the M's have 'improved' this year.

So I'm saying he's staying, like it or not... *sigh*
