I don't know, I think Joe Girardi might be a good fit for the A's given their tendency to stay young and cheap (even if the current ownership isn't as extreme in that regard as in years past). It's too bad he didn't get a shot at the Cubs, but then Lou's only signed on for 3 years and Girardi is young. I don't expect to see the Cubs in the WS over the next 3 years, but watching Lou blow up periodically (especially if the Tribune Co remains the owner and thus inevitably frustrates him the same way the Mariner's ownership did) will be fun.

Win your division, get fired. Come in dead last, get kept on for another year. I guess Mike Scioscia gets a set of steak knives....

I think it’s because Jim actually started with “off topic, but”.

I think Derek does that because it's funny.

so, who was it at the feed who got cut off for starting with 'off topic, but...'

so let's see, at the moment it is Lou in Chicago, with Phil Rogers speculating that Hendry has promised that he'll go get all his former players & coaches... the Bay Area writers are saying Beane goes with high school buddy Geren, though he should sign Washington (who interviews in Texas today) or Baker, and that Bochy is in line for the SF job...

Yeah JMB, your probably right. While not always in agreement I usually find what Mr. Thomsen has to say interesting. Oh well, at this time of year (Football) and with the M's out of it I'm just grasping at any baseball discussion.

In response to #39 being deleted for being off topic, just what is the topic of this thread? Playoffs? Lou to the Cubs? Macha being fired? Mariners roster construction? Just asking.

I've always liked Jared Fernandez, but that's partly because I've always thought it would be cool if the M's had a knuckleballer on the staff.

I'd take Spivey over Bloomquist, obviously.

Hee Choi? Might make a nice LHB on the bench, but they're already overloaded at 1B/DH.

George Lombard is still around? Wow.

Other names that jump out: Ramon Vasquez, Willie Harris, Marlon Byrd, Justin Leone.
