It cracked me up to read his questioning the fan who about what he looks for from the pitcher in a typical AB…hoping the fan wasn’t really a scout for the Angels…

The whole chat seemed very “Japanese” to me – respectful, careful, cautious. The only question that I saw which contained some good info was this one:

Royce (San Diego, CA): Hey Mr. Johjima, Do you tend to call for different pitches here in America, than you did in Japan? For example, do you call for more fastballs here?

Kenji Johjima: I had to make a few adjustments here. In the MLB, we make sure the pitchers pitch what they want to pitch. Back in Japan, a lot of catchers have the authority to call the games. That’s kind of different. I had to make some adjustments there.

That’d be an interesting topic to dig into with much more detail.
