Tuesday, Hernandez threw to teammates Jason Ellison, Willie Bloomquist and Ben Broussard for three pretend innings. . . .None of the hitters was able to hit the ball hard against Hernandez.

I dispute the “better” part. He was in trouble in the second and the third, just like in his earlier starts, but got outs on balls in play instead of hits. He isn’t as bad as his 15.35 ERA would make you think, but he’s pretty horrible, and it’s not like his fastball improved, his control is improving, or so on.

He didn’t show me anything that I didn’t see before, except he can occasionally go 5-6 innings before he gets the crap beaten out of him. He’s not even doing the Ryan Franklin “hey, I can pitch quickly and eat innings when I’m getting killed” act, and I don’t need to SEE any more starts.

Weaver wasn’t good in his last start, but he was sufficiently better than his first three starts (which were abysmal) that he probably won himself some more time.

Which blows, by the way. If Felix had been available Weaver never would have seen that fourth start, but now we’ll suffer through Weaver probably several more times while they try to catch lightning in a bottle again.

More unjustified Mariner hatred!

Mariner pitchers right now are dead last in the AL in Ks, and tied with the injury-decimated Yankees in K’s/G.

Felix coming back will help this some, but gee, maybe you SHOULDN’T build a pitching staff around guys who throw 88.

Just thought I would post that there were 30,171 fans at the game last night and 30,170 Tigers fans. I was proud to represent our hometown boys. On that note Tigers fans are the worst I have yet to come across in all of baseball. Everyone yelling at me only did so once the Tigers took the lead and not a single one in my section could tell me that Alan Trammell was the manager before Jim Leyland. The bandwagon always has plenty of room.

Not a good choice, but I actually think that there’s one or two arms that could suck less than Weaver/Ramirez…

What choice do they have? Any random AAA or AA pitcher is not likely to do any better at this point, and since these two are already earning Major League salaries, why not just let them slog through it? If things continue as they’ve been going, Ichiro may then be dealt at the deadline–there’s your two months–for more promising hurlers.
