18 – That is a good point. Giambi, Cano, Matsui, and Cabrera do not hit lefties well. In Giambi and Matsui’s case this is a more recent thing. Sheffield, who has always hit well against lefties, has been replaced by Abreu who doesn’t. When Alex is in a slump like he is now that seems to leave them vulnerable.

17: How do you figure? If you remove HoRam and Washburn starts from the Yankee’s “vs. left” numbers, they OPS .774 vs lefties, which is above league average.

As far as Washburn and Ho-Ram’s performance against the Yankees goes, the Yankees are one of the worst hitting teams against lefties. Other than Alex and Jeter, the team is built with an extreme left handed bias.

You’re right – I was a bit harsh and I apologize.

HoRam does have a Skil set.I think he has the 18V Cordless 4-Tool Combo Kit that includes the drill/driver, circular saw, saber saw, and the stud finder. He keeps it in his locker. (As if he needs a stud-finder in the clubhouse.)

Hargrove isn’t kidding when he says that HoRam has all the tools he needs.

Batista’s on a 3 year deal, and he doesn’t have minor league options. He can blow pretty badly (like Washburn did last year) and still stick in the rotation.

The most likely answer is by making a trade. But I don’t anticipate the M’s doing something like that for another month or two, at least. They’ll let Batista, Ramirez, and Baek get some substantial time in the rotation before deciding which one of them gets the boot.
