"He was a leading candidate to be the first manager fired, but if the Mariners build on their strong start, he could be a leading candidate for A.L. Manager of the Year."

"Seriously…a little warning please.

I really did laugh coffee out of my nose at that."

That's an interesting point about Betancourt adding muscle = work defense. A-Rod says he put on a lot of muscle before last season and he didn't feel as smooth in the field. He reduced his mucle before this season and says he feels a lot more comfortable in the field.

There’s no reason to care what Will Carroll thinks about anything.

My memory is that our resident pitching coach, em, also thinks that Will Carroll is full of shit about Felix, and had some specific refutations to Carroll's complaints about Felix's motion, but I don't remember what thread or when.

Baker makes some really good points today. All stuff I am sure you guys would agree with:

"One thing I've noticed since coming over here last September is that the Mariners use their bench a whole lot less than most teams in the majors. I mean, it would be hard not to notice.

There were times last week when I wondered why the Mariners had even bothered making the Jason Ellison deal. I mean, Ben Broussard already plays less than the average Ellisons of the world and if anything, I'd be looking for ways to work him into games more.

At this stage, I'd rather have kept Rey Ordonez to spell Yuniesky Bertancourt at shortstop a little more. Betancourt is not the same guy I saw in the field at the end of last season. He makes spectacular plays, but he's also missed quite a few more than would have seemed routine -- in his class at least -- at the end of 2006. Glad he got a night off. He's been hitting for more power and he certainly bulked up in the off-season. Wonder if that's had anything to do with it. Still a fine shortstop, but should not be playing seven games a week. Maybe five.

Bottom line, the Mariners have too many consecutive days coming up and they will have to start employing the backups more often. I wouldn't mind seeing Richie Sexson sit two days a week if it means he'll hit .262 instead of .162. We'll see how this little experiment plays out in the short term. Just keep in mind, most teams do it this way.

The Mariners will need to keep that offense consistent since the first place Angels have figured out how to score runs."

Today's lineup?

Is Felix on a lower-than-normal pitch limit today?

I'm sure Carroll would say the same thing about Lincecum, Willis, or anyone else who doesn't throw exactly like Jason Davis.

Anyone who watches a pitcher throw a tough slider and then says, "Ooooh, this guy's arm motion virtually guarantees he'll have an arm injury," isn't providing insight. Carroll can kiss my pasty winter ass.

Happy Felix Day!

I was listening to Will Carroll this morning on ESPN radio. He is convinced that Felix's arm motion virtually guarantees he will be injured in the very near future. I have never heard this kind of declaration of injury certainty before - is he nuts, or is there something very violent and strange about the way Felix throws?
