Honestly, he’ll probably do well for them and be a solid member of their rotation next season.

Oh, I see an even more depressing scenario. Baek has some nice starts for the next couple of months, shows that he can fill a hole. Peavy and Young come back, or SD brings up some AAA arms, and trade Baek to a play-off team(really depressing) for a player who becomes a star.

Meanwhile, the Mariners don't get that player, and certainly aren't in the play-offs. But we'll have Washburn! And I can't put a price on that sort of petulant, rude teammate tossing batting practice!

I won't be surprised if Washburn, like Weaver, doesn't end up cut at the end of the season. So let's see where the team will be: No starter. No Baek to fill that spot. A need to trade for or pay for that starter. Rush out to pick up some over the hill, over paid, starter. Rinse, repeat.

I guess that's the ultimate frustration in comparing someone like a Baek and Washburn. Does management think Washburn's troubles are simply bad luck? Bumps in the road? Or that he'll become better?

Re: Saving us all from terrorists - Wash looks a bit like Kiefer Sutherland. It's a standing joke.

Baek Saves Padres Season. I would love to read that.

Honestly, he'll probably do well for them and be a solid member of their rotation next season.

So you're saying we could have a similar-quality pitcher for a tiny fraction of the cost? Wow, somebody tell the Ms!

Washburn can protect your city from terrorists though.

By throwing them under a bus?

I was somewhat disappointed when Lowe stranded the 3 baserunners he inherited. Would’ve really blown Washburn’s ERA into the stratosphere had they come around to score. Oh well.

Yeah, I remarked to no one in particular, "Washburn better be buying Lowe a dinner pronto" -- though I kind of get the impression that Washburn isn't the type to do that sort of thing.

I choose Baek. In fact, between Ryan Franklin and Washburn, I choose Franklin.

Meanwhile, on the Washburn front, I was on a flight during the game, and literally ran to the computer to see if he got lit up for double digits. There’s a sick part of me who’s disappointed that he wasn’t.

they both make me sick. this whole season makes me sick. I don't want them to play another game with this current team. Anyway we can hire replacement players for all but a handful?
