The Ico-latern was indeed awesome, but it was off-topic. Around here, we try to limit the off-topic discussions to "chemistry," "clutch," trading Ichiro, and all things Willie Bloomquist. If you'd been able to carve an unrealistic roster into the back of the pumpkin, then we could talk. But just an awesome carving of an awesome player? What can we say?

(Next year we should have a carving contest. This year would've been fun, though -- lots of fan-kins puking up their seed guts at the sight of a 100 loss season...)

Bobby V would keep things interesting, that’s for sure!

Hey, if nothing else, Bobby V. could always come back up to the dugout of games he's been thrown out of wearing a beagle-puss disguise! :)

I live in Phoenix and sat behind Orlando Hudson at the Suns game Saturday. When asked if he had talked to Seattle yet, he said he'd listen but that "They need to re-sign Ibanez." I said maybe if he's only playing DH, and let him know that Safeco was built for lefties (or switch hitters). He was wearing a brace on his left wrist. He was very polite and friendly. He also said we have a great middle infield, so his evaluative techniques may be dated.

A tidbit from Jon Heyman's SI column:

New Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik is said to realize the mammoth task before him. His first order of business for the first franchise to spend $100 million and lose 100 games (the spent $120 million and lost 101) is to pick a new manager, and he's said to have formed his list already. Bobby Valentine, who was the Mets' Triple-A manager when Zduriencik was farm director, would be the call here.

Bobby V would keep things interesting, that's for sure! And I think it would keep Ichiro and Kenji happy...

Yep, and that's why this is a broken system that any smart GM who has a Type A free agent on that list should be exploiting the hell out of.

Yeah, ya know, I think I misspoke. It's a lot of TYPE A free agents who would have been attractive a decade ago. As I read somewhere, the players you wouldn't want to take even if you didn't lose draft choices.
