ahahahahaha. Did anyone see Pedro Calderon’s comment? He accused LL of being racist, and rooting for the Rays, “all year”.

Couple of things:

1) LL is not racist nor full of them, but those comment threads can be pretty hefty with the racist humor. LL simply doesn’t care if anybody’s offended (unless you mention the “f” word that rhymes with “maggot” or post anime pictures).

2) LL, like most of us, had the Devil Rays pegged as a good team before the season began and was pretty much hoping they’d succeed just to shove it down the naysayer’s throats.

So what he told you was true, from a certain point of view.

I think the McLaren quote about Putz was more of shorthand personal description of the season than a real excuse. The reality-based part of the quote was where he seems to understand that his qualities as a bench coach don’t translate into managing. He doesn’t say it directly, but it’s pretty clear from how he answers the question that that is what he is saying.

And I’m not sure anyone should objectively assume that a fired manager, actively seeking new employment, would not attempt to casually sweep under the rug problems he was unable to deal with. “A lot of stuff comes out that was really overblown.” Ummm, yeah.

These are probably the same people who think Ichiro is overpaid, ERA and wins are how you evaluate pitching talent, and that dinosaurs never existed because they’re not mentioned in the bible.

There’s actually some very detailed and incredible descriptions of dinosaurs in the Bible. But other than that, I agree with you.

And I still haven’t seen Burn After Reading… but I’ve never seen a Coen Bros. flick I didn’t love.
