Sorry, you bring up Bedard, I immediately think of Adam Jones... the hurt of giving up a future superstar for a pitcher who's forever on the DL kills me.

@joser: "From now on the only time I’m going to bring up AJ as when somebody says “He’s had his chance and he can’t hit MLB pitching” of some kid from Tacoma with a hundred or so ABs."

Well said sir. :-)

I think we're soon going to need to have a Lincecum-like moratorium on Adam Jones references -- and I say this as somebody as guilty of bringing him up as anybody. But: everybody knows how well he's doing. Everybody, ok? And Asdrubal Cabrera. And Shin-Soo Choo. We can push our tongue against that loose tooth forever, or we can just move on, call the dentist, and start thinking about how to fix this sorry-ass smile.

All I have to say is Adam Jones:

    * Avg .370
    * HR 8
    * RBI 26
    * Runs 35
    * SB 3

Any chance we could use this guy in our lineup?

Who’s jumping on him? It’s not his fault he’s a fragile dude. The problem is:

1. He IS a fragile dude, and every time this happens the M’s get a little worse and his trade value takes a hit. And it happens a lot.

It definitely sucks that he is gonna miss a start, but considering the freakish use of force he exerts to do what he does its hardly unexpected and I honestly wonder why people don't realize such a thing.

Aren’t some of you overreacting a bit? Playing through pain is a bad idea, but when the guy needs to skip a start you’re all ready to jump on him for doing so.

Who's jumping on him? It's not his fault he's a fragile dude. The problem is:

1. He IS a fragile dude, and every time this happens the M's get a little worse and his trade value takes a hit. And it happens a lot.

2. We're nearing the point where the season is lost, and when we reach that point, a healthy Bedard is very important to trying to salvage something from this season.

EDIT: Or what Joser said.

Well, I'm bummed -- that Beckett vs Bedard matchup was something I was looking forward to (and was the M's best shot at winning a game in that series).

Aren’t some of you overreacting a bit? Playing through pain is a bad idea, but when the guy needs to skip a start you’re all ready to jump on him for doing so.

Actually, I don't see many people "jumping on him" here -- at least, not compared to the usual run of comments we got last year when people were making him the target of all sorts of character assassination without any real basis (other than just mindlessly repeating what certain talk jocks told them to think). Advocating a "sell high" approach, like Dave did, is as much predicated on the expected course of the team's season (ie, they're not making the postseason) as it is about any player's performance or durability.

Yea, it looks like only one start and it's his leg. There's ten other things to worry more about this team.
