And Bedard is a far more proven quantity than Strasburg (to get back to the point of that original quote).

I saw that comment about Adam Jones too and had the same reaction.

I will never forgive Bill Bavasi for that trade. I was really looking forward to watching Jones play for the M’s.

BUT …

I think it was Dave C. who pointed out that the Adam Jones trade effectively brought us Jack Z & Company in the FO, Wak as the manager and Guti in CF.

So when you look at it from that perspective, it’s a lot easier to take.

And of course Clement’s knee isn’t letting him catch in Tacoma so he’s certainly not able to catch in the majors.

So, as Mike Snow says, the fact that GQ is here is proof that such a guy is necessary. It just so happens Rob Johnson was already that guy, and he got hurt while he was filling in for Johjima.

That’s what he is alright, and as we’ve seen, you need that guy.

Let’s say they’re talking to the Orioles about Adam Jones. I’ll ask you this: If you put Adam Jones back in the draft right now, who would go No. 1 — him or Strasburg? I’d say Adam Jones. So no way you’re giving up an Adam Jones for this kid. But obviously, I know what Adam Jones is now. And I think I know what he’s going to be. I don’t know what Stephen Strasburg is going to be.”

and don’t we have enough catchers in the system?

Considering the starter is on the DL and the backup is too hurt to play, and the two that are playing weren’t on the opening day roster, the answer would apparently be “no.”

And, unfortunately, the M’s don’t quite have the technology available just yet to construct androids to catch for them. (*New twist…since I was wearing out my “Spinal Tap” analogy pretty quick. )
