I can’t believe so many people want to keep Branyan. Look at his career stats! 1000 K’s in 2400 AB’s! And a sub .250 hitter. Do you really think he’d be able to hit playoff pitching?

I'm not sure that a roster is constructed with that particular worry in mind. I believe the idea is to get to the playoffs. They can fret over playoff pitching, if they're in contention at the end of July.

I will miss Griff. I’d love to see him back despite his lack of production.

Seriously? Griffey was a childhood hero of mine too, but he didn't just have a lack of production...he was the WORST DH in the league. If you want Mr. Tickles back bring him back as a coach or something because he makes the team worse as a player.

Still can't believe so many people want to see Griffey back. I suppose it's kind of like the instant replay/umpire argument. People don't want instant replay yet bitch about calls all the time.

Beltre and Branyan have earned decent offers from the Ms. Branyan seems to be dealing with his back problem effectively during the off-season. Wilson is still worth a reworked offer of 2 years at about $5M per, he may well attract other offers if the Ms pass on his 2010 option. Sweeney finished the season on a strong note and is worth a contract contingent on his making the team out of spring training.

I think you just need to blame it on the flashbacks. Tight pants, open shirts, frizzy hair, wide ties.... I don't think Tom Jones is 100% with his typing either.

"seemed to be a bit of a theme"

Speaking of idiocy, it looks like I'm adding a bit of it myself the last couple of days with my typing. Somebody please shoot me before I start advocating another Griffey year.

This seemed to surprise at least one person every week the entire season.

Oddly enough, useless players have seemed to a bit of a theme recently. (see most recent threads)

I'm generally with lailaihei on this one.

Definitely bring back Branyan and Beltre if we can get really good deals, but I suspect Beltre is gone.

Otherwise, I'm not totally sold on the others. Maybe Wilson and/or Bedard if we can get a screaming good deal. And maybe a bionic body for Bedard.

I like Griffey and Sweeney, but they aren't the future of the Mariners and take valuable roster spots. I was a little kid who grew up adoring Griffey, but that was the past. The franchise is bigger than any one person so it's time to let him go.

I like Endy too but not sure it's worth the money to keep him around when he probably won't play half of the season. Plus ACL injuries to guys who rely heavily on their legs (like an Endy-type) can be career enders. I tore my ACL in high school and it's not pretty. Sorry Endy, I really am, but it's too great a risk. Blame Yuni.

Does Batista need mentioning?

I hope we keep Branyan as long as he signs a team-friendly deal. Other than that, Beltre if we can get a decent deal, although there may be a decent number of suitors for him. Wilson is good if we can drop the option and sign him to a 2 year deal for $13 million or so.

Other than that, I'm not interested.

Good luck to Beltre, Bedard, Sweeney, Batista and Chavez.

Resign Branyan to an incentive laden deal at 4M base pay with up to 3.5M in incentives totaling 7.5M if reached with a club option for 10M in 2011?

Offer Jack Wilson 2YR/10M? You can't replace the defense he can offer.

Griffey can come back but for half of what he got in 09. And off the bench. The reason is highly for club house leadership.
