I've been out of the country on a cruise, only getting as much news as the New York Times online and ESPN International will provide, which is to say they dealt with the Lee trade as a Phillies story and the Bradley trade as a Cubs story. Last night, I saw someone with a Mariners hat and asked if he was from Seattle. He hadn't heard about either trade. By the time I gave him the whole scoop he was grinning widely.

Thanks, Jack Zduriencik, you made my Chanukah.

You said Randy Johnson and at that point my mind went blank. All I could see was standing there at Qwest with my son who is too young to know who Randy Johnson was, one year after I introduced him to Ken Griffey Jr.

My mind is still blank. What were you saying after that?

Speaking of working out, is USSM moving its Jan. 9th event to a larger venue? Dave tweeted the option was being explored.

As long as those who got tickets in the first one get a chance to "re-up" as it were. I'd just like to keep my ticket #1! :P

Does anyone have a copy of the 2008 opening day roster? wouldn’t it be something to compare it, Bavasi’s last, with the current roster we have now. How many Bavasi guys are still on it?

I was curious about this the other day. Of the 44 players that played for the Mariners in 2008, even just for one game and including minor league call-ups, only nine are still with the organization. Pretty amazing if you ask me.

Lopez
Ichiro
Felix
RRS
Tui
Rob "CERA" Johnson
Morrow
Mark Lowe
Feierabend

(Not sure about the current status of Cesar Jimenez but can't find him on any of our rosters)

That is gracious of DMZ to say. I think his point was still accurate - by signing Griffey Langerhans was off the roster, an unfair spot for a good, committed, useful and cheap player.
But, in the spirit of all things JackZ, everything has worked out for Langerhans, Griffey and the team. And the universe. Someone start mass-printing the "In Jack We Trust" shirts and design the 'Trader Jack' iphone app.
Speaking of working out, is USSM moving its Jan. 9th event to a larger venue? Dave tweeted the option was being explored.
Thanks again for the great posts.

Just because I can't resist...

At least we know there's absolutely no way they'd ever even consider bringing back Yuni.

I'm kidding! I'm kidding! That is not a real challenge, Jack!

I refer to it as “The Bavasi turds have finally been flushed.”

Bowel movements involving Bavasi turds always bring great relief.

You still have time to be right. Opening day is a long way away, and there are going to be some tough choices made getting down to 25.

Or maybe Zdurincik's magic will extend to talking the commissioner into giving us a roster exemption for Griffey. Best interests of baseball and all of that.

No worries, Dave. And give yourself some time to adjust to writing about a GM who actually over achieves instead of what we are all used to. :)
