More self-promotion

Since we’re in the self-promoting mood, I did an interview with Bryan Smith for his prospect blog. A couple Mariners related questions and we discuss general prospect theory, which may interest a few of you.

Ignore the text that was here earlier. If you don’t know what I’m referring to, hooray. Less confusion for you.

Nice interview with WTNY– I particularly liked your comments on the respective roles and potential contributions of statistical and observational analysis.

Also, wouldn’t the Everett pregame be at 6:45 PDT? Or did it get moved up an hour for some reason?

Agreed Dave, moreso than anyone I’ve seen on the web, you seem to understand the balance of scouting and analysis. Those who blow off either side tend to grate at me pretty hard, but I’ve never seen that with you. Out of curiousity, what is it that makes you think Lopez’s glove won’t stick at short? I’m assuming that’s a scouting opinion, but all the scouting reports I’ve read on him (mostly over at BA) seem to suggest he’s very slick with the leather. Any particular deficiencies you can point out? Thanks in advance.

Well, I screwed the pooch on this one. I got an email from someone who told me last night’s game was rained out, so I assumed the interview we taped yesterday would play tonight. I just talked to Pat and they did get the game in last night, so the interview that I plugged already aired. But you can tune in tonight anyways at 6:45, not 5:45, as I originally said.

Troy, I’m planning a Jose Lopez piece for later this week or this weekend where I’ll address my opinions on him in greater detail. Thanks for the compliment, by the way.

Sweet. I’m sure I speak for all of us when I say I look forward to that.

Dave, I was also interested in your comments about how much you love Stephen Drew. I’ve had this theory going for about a week now that we should sign JD in the off-season under the (off-the-record) understand we would draft Stephen next year. I know JD loves the South, but the chance to play with his little brother might be enticing.

Of course, that was all contingent on Stephen re-entering the draft. BA has a piece on their homepage suggesting that’s about to happen, as Drew could be enrolling again at FSU as soon as today, and attending classes by Monday.

With Boone almost certainly leaving after next year, can you say 2nd baseman of hte future?

I wouldn’t say I love Stephen Drew. This was a pretty crappy draft class, and he just happens to be the best of it. For the money he wants, I wouldn’t sign him either. Arizona is doing the right thing.

And no, I don’t think J.D. Drew is going to sign anywhere based on the hope of playing with his brother. At this point, I’d say he’s 95 percent to stay in Atlanta. They may get it done before he even hits free agency.
