Comment of the week

DMZ · August 27, 2004 at 9:12 am · Filed Under Mariners

Dave pointed this one out to me and I keep laughing, so in case you missed this:

Bob Mong:
Seattle is 14th (last) in the league in runs scored and 10th in the league in ERA, in a pitchers’ park. They need help on offense, defense, mascot dancing, bathroom cleaning, field grooming, and rally cap-wearing. You name it, the Mariners are bad at it. The Mariners don’t need to be picky about where to improve – they need help freaking everywhere. If they can acquire a great player, at any position, they should look into acquiring him. As far as the Mariners are concerned, the only question should be: Is Adrian Beltre for reals?

If so, they should try to sign him. If he’s for real, he would improve several of the Mariners weaknesses: Defense at third base, lack of power, and lack of a good third baseman.

If he’s not for real, then let him go.

Due to the fact that there is a large amount of ground to cover in center field at the Safe, our #1 priority (regardless of the Yankees intentions) should be to grab Beltran. A Gold Glover with power, speed, and a high average is exactly what we need out there. We have seen too many doubles and triples this year that Cameron would have ran down. Bring back the D!
Of course, it would be nice to have Beltre too.
    🙂

I dunno, I think the restrooms at Safeco are pretty clean.

That is pretty classic. Way to go, Monger!
And the answer of course, is yes, Beltre is for reals! 🙂

The janitorial people who roam the concourses with their little brooms and dustpans are playing out of position. They should shade toward the rest rooms, particularly after the high-traffic breaks in the action.

And yes, the guys on the field need so much help that any power bat would be welcomed, regardless of position. We’ll fit him in.

I don’t know which bathrooms you’re using, but there are some that get naaaaaaaaasty. If you’re on the 300 level, you likely know which ones I’m talking about.

Thanks for the recognition, DMZ. Seriously, though: The Mariners suck. I didn’t realize their pitching/defense was so bad until I checked the numbers. And for more perspective, check out the midseason park factors at ESPN.com.

    Sounds like a management problem.

    I agree with comment #1.
and although I think Beltre is for real, he’s not THAT for real.
chances of him coming here and becoming 2001 brett boone are way too slim to gamble on IMO. that said, I’d love to have hime, but probably not at what he’s gonna cost. get beltran.

forget about beltran or beltre, bavasi will probably try to get lofton or bernie williams. They’ll fail of course, because they’re old and useless, but somehow it will all be Bob Melvin’s fault.

    Point of message: FIRE BAVASI!…NOW!
