    Tony Batista is Type A?

I love Tony Batista – he’s such a great case study. He has a terrible defensive reputation, and yet he consistently scores very well on objective defensive metrics. He’s a 30 HR/100 RBI guy, and yet his bat is below replacement level.

Tony Batista is a poster boy for popular misconceptions.

…or Troy Glaus and John Halama!

And “BoomBox” Nelson is rated higher than both Clement and El Duque.

Edgar on this list? Don’t people know he’s RETIRED…

    Dan Miceli? Type A? Ok….

At least we get a draft pick now for Villone, right? Don’t question it, just accept it! Him being a Type B is GOOD for us!

    I can’t believe Mabry is a Type C…

Ismael Valdez is a Type C too. Funny ,I thought he had a better year than some of the Type B’ers.

You know, they have these ranking of who’s the best free agents available, ranked A-C just like school (and I think A is better than B, although I never received either in scholl, so I don’t know for sure). We should be going for the highest ranked guys. A bunch of fans are saying things about Troy Glaus, but he’s only a C. We can’t afford any A’s, so let’s focus on a B-guy that can fill some holes.

How much would it take to sign Rich Aurilia?

Eh, some formatting didn’t show up correctly, that was supposed to be from the POV of a M’s FO official. 🙂

just a reminder, these rankings are based on 2003-2004 numbers, hence things like Edgar being on the list and Alex being counted as a shortstop….

Is it fair to say half of these guys won’t be offered arbitration for fear of the player accepting it? Arbitration does typically mean the player will get some sort of a raise. I hope the M’s are smarter than to offer Villone arbitration. What is the deadline for offering it to players? Isn’t there a date when the players must accept it by?

So Glaus is a C while Alvarez, Cairo, and Eldred among others are all A’s? Nice system…

I’d really love to score Damian Miller… Oh but he’s going to cost a ton as an “A”. I guess we’ll have to settle for “C” level free agents like Troy Glaus or Jermaine Dye.

I also like how Chris Carpenter is a “B” FA, considering Pavano is an “A”. And the fact that his option is likely to be exercised. Funny stuff.

#10 — actually, the M’s wouldn’t owe any compensation if they signed Damian Miller since they finished with one of the worst records in baseball. But never mind that, they won’t even consider Miller or any other free agent catcher — if Dan Wilson says he wants $3 million to come back as the backup to Olivo, they’ll probably end up giving it to him. They don’t want to piss off all those middle aged women who love “Dan the Man”…
