Site protection upgrade

DMZ · December 4, 2004 at 2:40 pm · Filed Under Site information

Because the other site info update comments are coming thick and heavy, I figured you folks were insatiable for site information!

I’m doing some work this weekend on implementing a, uh… widget of some kind (cough) that should significantly reduce the amount of time I spend fighting comment spammers. It is, however… um, how about this — as always, if you see something screwy with the site, email us. Particularly this weekend.

If you’re at all interested in what the site would look like had I not started to arm the server, check out the second page and after of comments here on some political blog — ignore the actual comments, please, and just check out how these spammers do drive-by after drive-by. I found that page looking up information on one of the more heinous and persistent attackers here. If you ever wonder why I’m in a bad mood about comments sometimes, on a bad day we’ll have 5-6 distinct comment spam attacks go at us.

Hence my new… widget. Hee hee hee. The less said about it, the better.

Update: seriously, hee hee hee.

Those are some impressive comment attacks. Who knew you could order that much coffee online?

    Good luck with your widget.

Yeah, if I ever need to gamble online, buy prescription drugs at low prices, or consolidate debt, I’ll take down the comment protections, wait 5m, and the world will beat a path to my doorstep. Virtual doorstep.

I think some in the Mariners FO should check out one comment you linked to specifically, which is selling anti wrinkle cream AND!! online degrees. The former for our new FAs, and the latter for those who are signing them.

Buy Ihoz Labs new product – Mariners glasses. These handy eyeglasses turn opaque whenever any hitter with an OBP under .350 comes to the plate. Available now only at Ihoz Labs.

    (apologies to Douglas Adams there)

interesting… i’m allergic to most anti-biotics and have to take zithromax, one of the attackers and the only other place i’ve ever heard the name.

It’s kind of sad at times… For example, Scott over at OnDeckBaseball stopped updating and nearly every conceivable advertising group, be they normal or obscene, seems to be using the site’s corpse as their own free advertising block.

Well, here goes. My last two messages didnt make it. Not sure why, but maybe because I changed my name. I certainly didnt write anything offensive…

DMZ, if comment spam is still getting through by the Pizza Feed, find me and I’ll explain a little trick that has killed 95% or more of our comment spam (of course, there is only so much you can do about actual people).

I give you props on keeping the comments clean. I know you have been doing a lot before to get them clean and with your new widget. What would I do as a M’s fan without ussmariner… Oh ya read rumor central and see the garbage they are quoting from the seattle papers.
