Rule 5

The Mariners passed in today’s major league portion of the rule 5 draft, as expected, thanks to their full allotment of the 40 man roster.

Minnesota selected lefty Ryan Rowland-Smith, who was #26 on the Future Forty. I’d say its a longshot they’ll keep him the whole season.

What are the chances of M’s getting RRS back? 50/50? Better? Worse?

I saw where we got former 1st rounder 2b Aaron Herr in the Triple-A phase from Atlanta. Not sure if we got anyone else or who we lost.

Dave>>Do I remember correctly that there was a Rule V player you thought maybe available M’s should pickup.Think he was not protected but would have improved M’s.Did they loose an opportunity?

Where is this info on the Internet. MLB & ESPN seem to be ignoring the Rule 5 draft. BTW who picked up Andy Sisco?

Re # 3: MLB requires that the 40-man rosters be finalized sometime in November. At that time, the M roster stood at 39, and it’s probably then that Dave expressed his hope.
The Dan Wilson signing, however, brought the roster up to 40, and made them ineligible to choose (they didn’t pass of their own accord).
FWIW, it’s nice to know that next year the Ms won’t be saddled with someone that they have to keep in the majors, when the guy should really be developing in the minors.
