Minor League Scores

JMB · April 8, 2005 at 11:03 am · Filed Under Mariners

Anybody know of a good source for minor league scores, or more specifically, boxscores? It bugs me to no end that this stuff is so hard to find — my usual sources are coming up empty. Baseball America still has scores up from the last day of the 2004 season (“Note: We are working dilligently to have our scores and stats for 2005 ready as soon as possible.”). ESPN.com’s minor league scoreboard says no games were scheduled yesterday (a lie). Minorleaguebaseball.com, my former favorite site because they had archived boxscores, says the season hasn’t started yet. And USAtoday.com at least has linescores, but no boxscores. Argh.

Not to mention that ESPN.com’s minor league site told me the Portland Sea Dogs don’t have a roster, and that Joe Mauer is a top prospect for the 2004 season. What is everybody doing?

I used the MILB.com site last night and it worked when I refreshed it a few times. It was S.L.O.W. going though…

(Note: Innings pitched are blank on the MILB box scores; IP values shown below are reconstructed by me based on ERA’s shown when greater than zero, and otherwise based on ground/fly/strikeout data, with guesses on a couple points when the outs didn’t add up.)

MILB.COM is usually pretty good, but for some reason they posted every game BUT the M’s affiliates last night.

Awesome, Paul! Did these go up late, or did you have to dig for them?

    jason

  8. Paul Covert on April 8th, 2005 4:11 pm

Some digging was involved. Specifically, I had to click on some of the box scores for the April 8 games that were directly linked, and then follow the pattern to reconstruct the URL’s for the April 7 boxes.

  9. JMB on April 8th, 2005 4:11 pm

Gotcha. I’ll keep that in mind.

    jason

  10. J on April 8th, 2005 4:32 pm

I did basically what Paul did, the runnning archive just isn’t working there.

…and neither is blogger, or else I would have posted my recaps hours ago.

  11. Jim Thomsen on April 8th, 2005 5:38 pm

What’s the best daily source for minor league transactions?

  12. J on April 8th, 2005 5:57 pm

…the local papers for each affiliate.

Seriously, MILB.com used to be brilliant, listing all of them, including signings down to the VSL/DSL levels, as did the MLB.com portion, but they’re still recovering from the ill-fated switch over last year and the new site is still being created (has a lot of features, but lacks the Arizona League and transactions, among other things). So as far as I know, most of us are left reading the local papers.

  13. Jim Thomsen on April 8th, 2005 6:08 pm

True, I guess … my first box-score source for the Rainiers game was the Fresno Bee’s Web site (went up about 12:30 a.m.).

  14. David J Corcoran on April 8th, 2005 6:26 pm

    Paul=super reader for a reason.

Can I complain about the MILB being taken over by MLBAM? I LIKED the old site, thank you very much.

Baseball America is pretty good sometimes though.

  15. JMB on April 8th, 2005 10:52 pm

Yeah, I miss the old MILB.com, too. Their transactions were, by far, the best around.

Anyone know where I can find some minor league splits?

  17. Kyle S on April 10th, 2005 9:25 am

If you wait long enough after the game, USA Today normally posts a box score.

  18. JJM on April 13th, 2005 10:02 am

USA Today does post box scores. I use USA Today for up-to-date current season info and minorleaguebaseball.com for career minor league stats for when someone breaks out, is picked up, acquired via trade, cited in trade speculations, etc. minorleaguebaseball.com takes their own sweet time in updating especially on the weekends. Frustrating.
