The Mariners have demoted Our Aussie Prospect, thanks in large measure to Derek’s “get the guy at bats” exhortations at the feed. Dave Hansen has been activated.
By the way, thanks to everyone at the feed who, when the “S” word was uttered, shouted “Doyle!” repeatedly, something that I’m sure confused Bavasi, but brought joy and mirth to my heart.

Okay, you’re right. Given I’ve already edited this post twice for superstitious purposes, and because I don’t want to give any Doyle backer a Monday morning heart attack, I’ll do so again.
Sorta off-topic, but not really. If you’re ever having problems with registration-required sites, Bug Me Not is a good resource.
Clarification on the 10-day rule? If Winn gets traded here soon, I realize they cannot immediately bring up Doyle (unless Hansen gets another mystery injury). Is that 10 days calendar days or is it retro to the last time Doyle played?
I wonder if Strong or Leone figure in the M’s plans at all anymore but they might be callup in such a situation.

I’m pretty sure that when people were grimacing and saying “Doyle!” when the boy’s name came up, Bavasi thought they were saying “NO!” and expressing distaste. Which must have been even more confusing when Jeff later said that USSM had “sort of adopted” him as our favorite.
And apparently what he was thinking inside was “these dorks like him, better send him down”.
I wonder if Strong or Leone figure in the M’s plans at all anymore but they might be callup in such a situation.
You know, I have felt for a while that Strong or Nunez should be the guys they call up instead of robbing development time for a Doyle or Choo. They are, at best, 4th-5th outfielders on the major league level, and can “try out” for that role and possibly even add value. One of the roles this team has needed to fill for a while is a right-handed-hitting part-time outfielder, and we can find out if either Strong or Nunez can fill that role competently at the big level, without a deleterious effect on someone who should be playing every day but for whom there is no every day opportunity.
Oddly enough Strong and Choo’s numbers this year are very similar. However Strong is a few years older.
However (again), Dobbs is tearing up AAA so Tacoma success does not relate to M’s success (especially as a rarely played bench person).
Strong would be a nice addition to the M’s as a 4th-5th OF…..mainly as a pinch runner…
First and foremost, it is sort of nice knowing that the Tacoma Rainiers have one of the best outfields — if not the best — in all of Triple AAA; Chris Snelling, Jamal Strong, Shin-Soo Choo, and Abraham Nuñez are damn good. Hell, their entire lineup is remarkably talented:

Well, at any rate, regarding rehabbing players, what are the eventual plans for Jorge Campillo, Scott Atchison Rafael Soriano, and George Sherrill? As it concerns the M’s, I wouldn’t mind seeing those four guys taking over for Aaron Sele, Shigetoshi Hasegawa, Jeff Nelson, and Matt Thornton by the end of July; though, I don’t expect that to happen.
Now, with that noted, what is the status on Sele, Hasegawa, Nelson, and the other assets that the M’s have (e.g., Jamie Moyer {no-trade clause}, Gil Meche, Ryan Franklin, Pat Borders, Wiki Gonzalez, & Dave Hansen)? It would be just as well to send away these guys for a low-level, PTBNL prospect, given that they’ll all be free-agents come this off-season anyhow. Besides, instead of continuing to go with Moyer, Meche, and Franklin, I would rather see Baek, Hernandez, and Livingston given chances in the starting rotation; plus, Rene Rivera should be given an opportunity to split duties at catcher with Miguel Olivo, so as to show whether or not either one of them has a decent future — especially since Jeff Clement is staring them down.
At any rate, the abovementioned guys notwithstanding, Ron Villone, Eddie Guardado, and Randy Winn actually have some legitimate trade value . . . what, if anything, could be had for them? Also, would the return justify the trade? FWIW, Guardado is having an amazing season, but guys like J.J. Putz and Clint Nageotte seem to have the closer/set-up makeup. (I know this is a stupid idea, but if the Red Sox were hell bent on acquiring Guardado, the M’s should insist on them picking up Scott Spiezio and the remainder of his salary — that’d be better than getting a high-level prospect anyways.)
Lastly, what’s the update on Bobby Madritsch, Travis Blackley, Dan Wilson, Bucky Jacobsen, and Calvin Reese? IIRC, Madritsch, Blackley, and Wilson are out for the season; yet, I am unaware of what the present status is for either Jacobsen or Reese, as they weren’t originally to have been sidelined for this long.

Not such a stupid idea. Exhibit A… Marlins trying to dump Lowell’s salary on whatever team is salivating to get AJ Burnett. And I think at least the Orioles, if not other teams, will bite on that offer.
Doyle did not play in tonights game for the Rainiers. There was a lefty on the mound for Tucson but that shouldn’t matter much when you’re hitting .340+
They probably just didn’t put Doyle in because of the transition. Maybe they couldn’t have. Who knows? Not a big deal. He’ll be back in the lineup tomorrow.
Atchison and Soriano are both at AA San Antonio right now. Atchison seems to be coming along nicely and Soriano just had that little “bump” in the road that turned out to be nothing. These two are about ready to come back to the Majors.
Campillo is still down with the Rookies in Peoria and not throwing particularly effectively so far. However, since rehab assignments are mostly about how well the person “feels”, I would think that a poor start means jack.
I didn’t think Sherril injured himself too badly, but he’s still down in Peoria too. I think his situation is simply one where they haven’t had enough chances to play him yet. Atchison must have gotten the bulk of the playing time.
Madritsch, according to his MRIs, is 100% healed. But considering the nature of his injury and the fact that he hasn’t touched anything shaped like a ball (his own anatomy notwithstanding… ZING!), Bobby probably wont be seen anywhere near a pitching mound til the winter. He should be ready to go by Spring Training next year. Barring a miracle, of course.
Bucky appears to be ready to start a rehab assignment. All his surgeries are done and his knees appear to be healthy as he is running at the Spring Training Complex (source: buckybackers.com). So he should be coming back soon.
Wilson is done for the season and probably done as a Mariner. He should retire with dignity, but likely wont. Either way, I think Seattle has seen the last of Dan the Man.
Pokey, I believe, wont be seen on a Major League ballfield this season. Everytime he thinks he’s going to come back, something else bad happens. Considering he was just supposed to be a stopgap for Shortstop until one of our guys is ready, I can’t really say I care. Mike Morse is much more enjoyable to have overall thus far then Reese would ever have been.
That’s about it so far. Clint Negeotte is healthy, so except for Blackley, Reese, and Madritsch, we should have all our injured players back and playing (in the system somewhere) by August.

Better for who? The owners certainly, but not for the fans or the 2006 and beyond Mariners. I’d rather get the prospect.

Yeah, but given the M’s management record, the earliest Scott Spiezio would ever be released is sometime during mid-season of 2006; thus, he is going to hinder the team by taking up an important spot on the bench as a pinch-hitter; it is a job better suited for either Bucky Jacobsen (when healthy) or Justin Leone.
As it is, though, I assume that instead of a prospect (e.g., Kelly Shoppach), most of us would rather have Spiezio gone, along with an extra $3,166,667 left over in the M’s budget for 2006 and $250,000 in 2007 to be used to sign a quality player.
