Let Morse DH instead of Everett.

Today was a perfect example of why Bloomquist gets so much grief around here.

He was AWFUL in cf, cost us runs, and yet he gets praise. Some people even think he’s the best defender we have. Bah.

My recollection was he got some applause for the triple, but virtually none for the ‘which way should I go, coach?’ diving catch. And of course he was soundly booed for the base-running error. The die-hard Willie fans didn’t seem much in evidence to me today.

KC announcers actually said that he is the “best bench player in the AL!” I replied to no one in particular that it’s only true when is actually ON the bench…

    Has Grover been fired yet?

Well yeah because, lets replace one crappy hitter with another.

I’d rather see Morse than Everett, if only to keep Everett away from vesting. And it looks like Morse is hitting well, and I have a strange belief that when players are batting well, ride the streak. Petagine hits a HR and 2B in his first at bats, let him hit for a couple of days. Oh well, just a thought.

Petagine is getting the shaft. The guy needs more at bats and he’s just not going to get them.

Hmph. Why is Petagine riding the pine so much? If you want to have your main pinch hitter sharp when you need him, I thought it was required that he gets more than an appearance every two weeks. Or am I mistaken?

Petagine is the perfect example of why I don’t like Hargrove as a manager. He started off the season hot, but Hargrove simply wouldn’t find a spot for him in the lineup. It wasn’t like Everett or Sexson were hitting early on, but he just refused to give either one a day off here or there. Its crazy. Now, Petagine isn’t hitting, and his numbers look pretty bad, even if he is getting good at bats. This team doesn’t have the players who have to play 162 games (I would make sure that Ichiro got 10 to 20 games off in a season), but thats why I don’t manage (aside from the fact that I am not involved in baseball other than as a fan).

sadly, in our section he got a big round of applause for the catch. Of course, in our section, someone thought Sexson was in LF (based on the tall lankiness, I guess) and we had a cry of ‘play some defense’ during the long inning where really, the only defensive breakdown was Betancourt’s, and the cry was long ofter that incident….

it’s the ‘you have to play your veterans, and they will repay you’ mindset, where he does it to the detriment of both his bench players not getting in, and the regulars who get no rest. Amazingly, the Mariners lead the league in games played at every position except centerfield….

    Game notes:
Maybe Washburn has some kind of internal meter where once he reaches 4 strikeouts in a game, he starts throwing batting practice.

I was sitting field level on the 3rd base side. I could not believe how high in the air Beltre’s HR went. Looked like it would never come down.

Walks were in the air what with Ichiro, Betancourt and Lopez waiting for the walk.
