Game 66, Mariners at Athletics

DMZ · June 13, 2006 at 6:30 pm · Filed Under Game Threads

LHP Jamie Moyer v RHP Joe Blanton.

This series is going to be an interesting test. The M’s may have played better than their record, but if they want to move up in the division, they’re going to need to climb over the A’s and Texas. Getting wins here would be big. Can the pitchers continue their success against a team that so far is even worse offensively than the Twins? Can they keep hitting against a staff way, way better than Angels, the Royals, or the Twins?

Blanton vs the M’s so far this year: 2-0, 1.20 ERA, 15 IP, 9H, 0 HR, 1 BB, 8 K.
Moyer vs. the A’s so far: 0-2, 6.17 ERA, 11.2 IP, 17 H, 1 HR, 4 BB, 8 K.

Based loaded nobody out in the 9th. Now you *know* we’re going down.

  2. zzyzx on June 13th, 2006 9:07 pm

Ok, please let us not blow this. PLEASE!

  3. true_slicky on June 13th, 2006 9:07 pm

Can this be? Basebs loaded, no outs?

Anyone remember that 1-0 game the M’s won agaisnt the A’s a couple years back by a balk from Duscherer?

  4. matu on June 13th, 2006 9:08 pm

HBP? wow, is Lopez turning into Carlos Baerga? God, I hope not.

  5. Mad Jenny on June 13th, 2006 9:08 pm

    #94 – What about pitching?

  6. true_slicky on June 13th, 2006 9:08 pm

    One down, two to go.

  7. argh on June 13th, 2006 9:08 pm

Called 3rd strike on Raul. That’s one down.

  8. matu on June 13th, 2006 9:09 pm

Yes, it’s 2-0. ESPN programmers got it wrong (again).

  9. zzyzx on June 13th, 2006 9:09 pm

Are we trying to set a record for bases loaded/ no out futility?

  10. kmsandrbs on June 13th, 2006 9:09 pm

    Thanks for the correction.

  11. Guuiduck on June 13th, 2006 9:09 pm

    crap. crap. crap.

  12. true_slicky on June 13th, 2006 9:09 pm

104- hm. that’s a tough one. what good would Blanton be on the Mariners if he can never pitch AGAINST the Marienrs?

  13. matu on June 13th, 2006 9:09 pm

Well, I predicted 3 ks. that stil can happen (oh, please score ONE run).

  14. thehiddentrack on June 13th, 2006 9:09 pm

Sexson has to be up next.

What are the chances of Sexson getting a hit?

    Negative something?

  15. Mad Jenny on June 13th, 2006 9:10 pm

#102 Of course I remeber that game. That’s when I learned about balks.

  16. msb on June 13th, 2006 9:11 pm

#108– haven’t they already done that?

  17. argh on June 13th, 2006 9:11 pm

“He’s got the bases drunk.” Don’t think I ever recall hearing that one before.

  18. Norm Charlton Fan Club on June 13th, 2006 9:11 pm

    Sexson blows

  19. true_slicky on June 13th, 2006 9:11 pm

    two done one to go.

  20. zzyzx on June 13th, 2006 9:11 pm

I’m sooo glad I turned this game on. So glad.

  21. argh on June 13th, 2006 9:11 pm

Sexon dives for one in the dirt. That’s 2 out.

  22. matu on June 13th, 2006 9:12 pm

    Next. K. UGH.

  23. ClifHeartIchiro on June 13th, 2006 9:12 pm

    Pitiful.

  24. DMZ on June 13th, 2006 9:12 pm

    … sigh

  25. true_slicky on June 13th, 2006 9:12 pm

why let Everett bat? why? WHY?

  26. Mad Jenny on June 13th, 2006 9:12 pm

#111 – That’s very true. Can he pitch well against any other AL team? Or is it just us that he has figured out?

  27. matu on June 13th, 2006 9:12 pm

    Game. Set. Match.

  28. DMZ on June 13th, 2006 9:12 pm

    At least that was quick.

  29. Phoenician Todd on June 13th, 2006 9:12 pm

Well, our pitching was maintained, but we showed that we can’t hit “better” pitching.

  30. msb on June 13th, 2006 9:12 pm

#117. this is Huston Street, of course.

  31. zzyzx on June 13th, 2006 9:13 pm

WHY?!?! What about bases loaded/no outs causes us to do this? It’s even affecting my softball team now. Sheesh.

  32. Goob on June 13th, 2006 9:13 pm

Well, that 9th inning was especially painful to watch.

  33. true_slicky on June 13th, 2006 9:13 pm

according to Yahoo!, Beltre was the ‘top batter’ of the game for the M’s.

  34. thehiddentrack on June 13th, 2006 9:13 pm

    How predictable.

  35. argh on June 13th, 2006 9:13 pm

    And Carl is number 3.

2 hours and 6 minutes of Mariner fun. Now, if you’ll excuse me I have to go get mocked by my friends from the Bay area.

  36. matu on June 13th, 2006 9:13 pm

125, Blanton pitched his only CG SO against KC.

  37. Mad Jenny on June 13th, 2006 9:14 pm

Why, oh why, did I turn the game on?!?

  38. ClifHeartIchiro on June 13th, 2006 9:15 pm

    A fitting post-game commercial.

No, Richie. No you most certainly do NOT hit the ball a country mile.

  39. msb on June 13th, 2006 9:15 pm

#124– who are you going to have bat instead? (well, if you are Hargrove, of course)

  40. David J. Corcoran I on June 13th, 2006 9:16 pm

That’s a depressing loss. And way too short of a game. I tuned it on while I was driving through Cottonwood and the game ended about 5 minutes after I checked into my hotel in Colfax. (on my way to Seattle)

    We suck.

  41. JIMINEDMONDS on June 13th, 2006 9:19 pm

This one, with the tease in the ninth, was painful, but expected. Does this kind of ineptitude with the bases loaded happen to any other teams? It sure does not seem that way.

  42. argh on June 13th, 2006 9:20 pm

Who says baseball isn’t educational. I had no idea Colfax had a hotel.

  43. msb on June 13th, 2006 9:23 pm

remember how they used to say some Mariners had Safeco in their heads? I think this group of M’s have MacAfee in their heads– they just do nothing down here lately, and Moyer gave them as good as you’re going to get from him against Oakland, esp. in Oakland.

Red just helpfully let us know that Blanton is 2-6 with a .750 ERA against everyone not in a Mariner uni. so, how many points did his ERA drop after this game?

  44. David J. Corcoran I on June 13th, 2006 9:24 pm

It’s a very nice Best Western.

  45. true_slicky on June 13th, 2006 9:24 pm

138- The answer to that question is obvious.

WFB, of course. He would’ve provided a “gritty” two-run single, thus guaranteeing an extended streak of starting in CF, and the front office signing him to another extension….

  46. msb on June 13th, 2006 9:37 pm

Polish??? she was Angie Marzetta in her UDub/Silver Bullet days….

  47. pensive on June 13th, 2006 9:38 pm

One would guess DMZ would post a meet Saturday or Sunday for newly graduated Mr Corcoran. UPS accepted Mr Corcoran really?

  48. argh on June 13th, 2006 9:38 pm

Okay. Honorary Polish Princess. Just vote.

  49. msb on June 13th, 2006 9:53 pm

I’m guessing none of the other eligible anchors were high-school linebackers, or led their NCAA division in stolen bases, or were the first Silver Bullet to charge the mound after being plunked by a pitch ….

  50. joser on June 13th, 2006 10:13 pm

I also don’t know any bars around here that are actually fun to watch the game at, and I refuse to go to Fox Sports
Well, I like to go hang at the bar at Maneki. They don’t have much of a TV, but where else can you sit with half a dozen tiny ancient Japanese ladies as they knock back beer and sake and cheer Ichiro (and curse the other team) in Japanese? It’s hilarious, even the bartender is a lady over 70. The sushi’s pretty good too.
