RHP Jason Schmidt v RHP Gil Meche. Also DH Bonds v RHP Meche. 1:05, (vwhoosh!) on Fox (crash!) nationally (wheet! chick-chicka-chicka) which means the whooole country’s going to be checking this out. Good times.

    I have to say something on the soccer debate earlier on:
    No ties is not a valid reason why Baseball or American Football is better. There would be ties in these games if the rules would not call for overtime/extra innings to decide tied games.
    On a more general note, I think you cannot say that one game is better than the other, it’s a matter of taste.
    And US vs. Italy was a good game, you Americans ought to be proud of your team.

    I agree that it’s a matter of taste, but a preference for no ties is perfectly legitimate. If your argument is that the only reason there aren’t ties is because of rules, well, that’s the whole reason sports are different at all.

    Some people, quite reasonably, believe that result of any competitive event should be a winner and a loser. I don’t think you can just dismiss that as invalid.

    The rule to extend any tie game is not one that defines the sport. Rather, it is one of the few things that American football and baseball have in common. You can apply this rule to any ballgame if you dislike ties.
