Someone wins an advance reader’s copy of The Cheater’s Guide to Baseball

DMZ · February 2, 2007 at 10:53 pm · Filed Under General baseball, Off-topic ranting

207 unique non-authors commented, some of who, ignoring instructions, registered today and made their first comment in that thread. They got thrown out. No one (surprisingly, given the subject matter) attempted to bribe me or otherwise cheat. So lacking a good n-sided die, I used Excel’s RANDBETWEEN, and we have a winner, which I’ll announce when I hear back from them. Unless they want to remain anonymous.

If I may make a pitch, though — it’s clear that at least 200 of you are interested in reading it. For only $11 more than free, you can pre-order the final version that features pictures with captions, corrected illustrations, and I promise that either at the USSM signing event (to be announced) or in some other fashion, I’ll make every effort to sign it for you.

Pre-orders will be hugely important in the book’s success, so if you’re thinking about it, please do go for it — it’s $11 and you’ve got months to cancel if all the readers and reviews this far turn out to be wrong.

Thanks to everyone who entered, it was good to see.

Hey, I offered a bribe; I couldn’t figure out any other way to cheat though I didn’t think too hard about it 🙂

    FWIW, I pre-ordered a long time ago.

    DMZ,
Congrats bigtime on the book, I’m sure it will be a huge success for you. I look forward to getting my own copy signed, if I’m so lucky.
One of my goals this year is to quit being so much of a lurker and try harder to engage in the incredible baseball dialogue that is USSMariner and hope (against all hopes) that we will have another magical season here in the NW (until PDX gets a team, which I will be incredibly divided on once it happens…
Thanks again for an icredible site.
    Dan

And the winner of a free copy of _The Cheater’s Guide to Baseball_ is(drum roll)… a Mr. B. Bonds from the San Francisco Bay area!

Here’s the completely dumb question of the day… I’ve got the Cheaters Guide in my shopping cart (I often have several titles sitting there in a holding pattern so shipping can be combined-especially when one or two of the titles aren’t released yet). Does placing the title in my cart still register as a tick in your preorder count or does payment have to be remitted? I know…pretty dumb question.

I preordered ages ago and did so through this site to give y’all some extra cash.

Now that the promo copy has been given away, when is the drawing for the hat on the front cover? 🙂

    Great idea!

By the way…did anyone see the Parque signing and do you think there’s anything left in his repaired arm? That’s a good chance to take on someone!

    Nope, gotta go through checkout.

I preordered too. But not from Amazon. Can’t stand Amazon.

I’m relatively sure it aint me that won it, but if I did, I’m not sure I wouldn’t want to wait for the finished version anyway. I am interested in reading it sooner then later, but I’d like to see the completed product.

    [music fades]

    Oh, my!

    [blushing daintily]

This is so unexpected!!! I never thought that I would win! This signal honor goes in some way to make up for all those long long years when I tried, and hoped, and waited in vain to hear that I had won a Free Trip to Spring Training.

I’d like to thank my mother and father, without whom none of this would have ever been possible, and of course, Microsoft Excel(R). Gosh, Excel, I didn’t even know you had a RANDBETWEEN!! I’ll treasure my advance copy of A Cheater’s guide to baseball forever and ever and somehow I will find some way to let all the little people who brought me here today to read it as well! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

    [exit music swells]

    Derek:

I had an epiphany concerning the marketing of your book. Maybe you could get this guy to help…

Cheaters guide, cheater’s guide, cheater’s guide….to baseball, just buy it, just buy it, just buy it….it’s just like its just like a literary ball…

When are the Mariners going to win again? When?!? Anyone? I almost can’t stand it. I need some cheering up.
