Ahhhhhhhhhh

Listening to the game, I feel blissful.

Rizzs’ analysis is still terrible.

I only heard about 90 seconds of it, but it was wonderful.

Even though I’m looking at snow on the ground outside, it finally feels like spring!

M’s lost 4-3 in case anyone was wondering.

    To our dreaded rivals, too.

It was great to hear a game.

BTW, will someone ask Bavasi if he is still searching for some left-handed “sock?” I think I found a guy capable of driving balls out of the deepest part of Safeco.

Does anybody know where to find a box score? I haven’t been able to find anywhere that is updated yet.

Going home and listening to Dave “I’ll be banned if I don’t spell his last name correctly” always makes me feel that all is right with the world.

it was only one bad inning.

And the box score is on mlb.com, anyway.

It’s true, the team didn’t really lose. You can look at earlier innings to see that they outscored the Padres before. This loss should be laid at the feet of the scorer.

    Reitsma’s line:

IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA
    Reitsma (BS, 1)(L, 0-1) 1.0 3 4 4 3 0 0 36.00

Yikes. Not such a great start.

Now, now. I remember someone on this site recently saying that people with common names can’t hit.

Some guy named Johnson appears to have tagged one.

Score one for us. You know the Nominal Majority.

    Yrs Trly,
    D. Johnson

15 men left on base and our DH goes 0 for 4 leaving 2 of ’em — I tell ya, this is so much like 2006 I feel young again.

The DH isn’t there to hit, he’s there to put some fire in the clubhouse.

Reitsma sucked so badly that he blew a save in the 4th inning, a new major league record.

Yeah, but at least we didn’t sign Mike Young to and 88 million dollar deal.

Seems he picked up right where he left off in Atlanta…

Hard to believe Manny Alexander is still playing baseball. Didn’t he back up Cal Ripken Sr. at one time?

If Bloomquist reaches his full potential, he could have as good a career as Manny Alexander.

well Rizzs kept reminding us the pitchers wouldn’t find their relase points for a few innings … me, I was wondering just what difference Arizona air might make for a pitcher used to spring training in humid Florida.

Reitsma sucked so badly that he blew a save in the 4th inning, a new major league record.

Surely you jest. Inasmuch as the starting pitcher has to go 5 innings before he can get a Win, there’s nothing to save until then. The absolute record is 5. (It’s probably been done many times.)

Hickey had an interesting chat with Dave yesterday, and both Baker and Drayer blog about the game

    um, Hickey.

It seems like Morse has to find a spot somewhere, somehow to play. and all pitchers did good except Reitsma. Bloomquist had a nice rib.

From ESPN’s Page 2 MLB POWER RANKINGS

    29. Mariners — If you were stranded on a desert island and had to choose Bill Bavasi or Matt Millen to rescue you, whom would you pick?

    30. Cubs — Sure, Ron Santo didn’t make the Hall of Fame, but he was just offered a three-year, $24 million deal to play for his old team.

We may have the worse GM, but we are only number 29 in the power rankings! Can we start to sing Moving On Up now?

That’s the kind of hard-hitting, number-crunching analysis I’ve come to expect from the readers of this site. Seriously, though, LOL.

Most of you probably saw this
    …just hilarious

  29. Josh on March 1st, 2007 11:43 pm

Pretty funny, but I’d rather have Nomar for 2 years and $18.5m than Richie for 2 years and $28m.

    I found this particularly interesting:

The Cubs have proven the last 60 years that it’s hard to win pennants with .330 OBP guys anchoring the lineup.

Then the Mariners didn’t believe them.

Well, at least with the Lions you only have to watch them sixteen times…

    re: .20

Yes, I do jest. Look at the box score (post .17).

  32. Dobbs on March 2nd, 2007 10:35 pm

Inasmuch as the starting pitcher has to go 5 innings before he can get a Win, there’s nothing to save until then. The absolute record is 5. (It’s probably been done many times.)

Since we’re being technical… if the starter goes only an inning, the pitcher that comes after him can get the win.

Therefore a pitcher should technically be able to blow a save without recording an out if I’m not mistaken.

Visiting team takes the lead in the first half of the inning.
Starting pitcher throws one pitch, leaves game.
Relief Pitcher throws one pitch, leaves game with lead, in line for win.
2nd relief pitcher comes in and blows the lead resulting in a blown save.

Feel free to poke holes in the logic, but that’s my understanding of the scorekeeping.

Sorry to have opened this can of worms. I was merely trying to say that AFAIK Spring Training records are not kept.
ANYONE: one spring (’46, ’47, ’48) Joe DiMaggio tore the cover off the ball. I think he had 17 homers. Is that recorded somewhere? (So I can get the correct figures.)
BTW, BLOWN SAVE is not an official statistic. (And I’m not implying that anyone said it was.)

  34. John D. on March 3rd, 2007 7:48 pm

    Joe DiMaggio’s Spring of ’46

Found it. He had 19 homers and 54 RBI. It’s in the NYT of 4/15/46.
For those who have either an SPL or KCLS library card, click on databases, and go to the HISTORICAL NEW YORK TIMES. Search for DiMaggio, and for ON THIS DATE, type in 04/15/1946. (It’s PDF, so be patient.)
