Tuesday tinkering

DMZ · March 6, 2007 at 8:34 am · Filed Under Mariners

Players make adjustments, experiment. Edgar, Dan, Norm Norm visited camp. Lou = buzz. Or, as Baker puts it

Two managers winless this spring hooked up on Monday, each with plenty to prove and both with different ways of going about it.

He’s talking about the game, and not using the popular slang term. I think.

M’s “@” Texas, noonish.

Thank god you said that because I was having some terrible mental pictures starting to fire up.

    LOL.

This might be even better than the pink shirt last week:

Buhner is the master trash-talker, and Ichiro’s wardrobe has provided a fine opportunity. Someone asked what Buhner would have done back in the day with Monday’s ensemble, which included sparkly gold sneakers with a silver man purse. “We’d have dipped that (stuff), thrown it in the freezer and then taken it out right before he came off the field and hung it back up.”

    “It’s not a purse, it’s European!”

Alright, where are all the pictures of Ichiro in these getups? Surely there must be some fashionista photographers following him around by now, right?

oh, not just a ‘silver man purse’– according to Drayer, Jay said it was ‘his silver man purse with the tassels all over it’

Maybe this has been covered on other threads, but since Derek mentioned today’s game, I just wanted to throw in there that I have been generally impressed with Dave Sims. I’ve never heard him before these Spring Training broadcasts, and I think he has a good vocal quality and isn’t annoying. 2 cents from 2 brodcasts I’ve heard.

Me too. We’ll see how he grows on us through the season, but I’m liking his work so far. I’d still rather have Curto, but that ship’s sailed.

    Adam Jones. Centerfielder.

oh, and speaking of photographs? I want to see footage of this:

“Norm Charlton … spent the winter snowboarding weekly with Buhner and former Mariner Jeff Nelson.”

    MAN PURSE ALERT!!!!

On Sportcenter they are going to talk about and hopefully show the “purse in question” during PTI’s Big Finish.

Also as am eagerly awaiting the “Purse” I checked the box score on the game and you have to like the young guys drawing walks.

    because that’s news 🙂

speaking of news, the M’s just beat Texas 10-3, and had a no-no into the 6th.

  15. Mike G. on March 6th, 2007 3:20 pm

Well I was let down, no pictures of the purse. I felt it was big news in a distraction sort of way from what was going on in the BP post. It was my attempt at “Anna Nicole Baby Daddy Drama” style journalism.

oh, I wasn’t commenting on your big news — after all, it’s big news for us — just amazed that Sports Center felt the need to cover it. was it SC or PTI?

    RE: the Jay-Buhner-on-Ichiro’s-man-purse story:

Wouldn’t any of you have given up one of the family jewels to have been a teammate of Jay Buhner at ‘most any time during his playing days? (and us distaff types, wonder what it’s like for his wife Leah?)

He surely kept the clubhouse pretty lively…

  18. Karen on March 6th, 2007 4:28 pm

(blush) Maybe I should have said “….wonder what it’s like living with Jay’s sense of humor for his wife Leah?”

Wondering what “it’s” like (without being specific) leaves a bit too much to the imagination.

I always figured that as she’s known him since high school, very little about him comes as a surprise. From a Times article: “Jay is a wonderful husband and father. But he’s hyper. You think he pulled tricks in the clubhouse; you should have been home the year he was injured. He’s wonderful with the kids. But thank goodness they aren’t taking after him.”

He has always seemed appropriately grateful for her putting up with him
