So DMZ, if the M’s are a Kurosawa film, is Felix Toyoshi Mifune?

  2. Tek Jansen on April 12th, 2007 10:58 am

Ahh, Toshiro Mifune. My mistake. And I cannot put the the accent over the “o” in Toshiro

  3. Gabriel on April 12th, 2007 10:58 am

Argh, and they feature a poll asking which players, a list including Felix, will first be with the Sox or Yanks. Stay away!

I love the Turbo quote. I think that might cause it to stick with him!

  5. Jar on April 12th, 2007 11:36 am

Derek, you are a freaking rockstar lately.

  6. David Corcoran on April 12th, 2007 11:36 am

    I don’t know…I like Vidro still.

  7. Mr. Egaas on April 12th, 2007 11:37 am

That was a great article. Well done.

Turbo really needs to be hit 6th or 7th. It’s getting ridiculous. Every time I turn around he’s grounding out our into a double-play.

gotta love the Cheaters link, too. Did they offer that as incentive for the event???

  9. PhilKenSebben on April 12th, 2007 11:40 am

derek, you wrote an article mentioning the vidro trade and only refered to Doyle as a prospect?…

  10. lokiforever on April 12th, 2007 11:41 am

And I often click on Google News as my source of news and dialy info, and there you and Jonah are, one of 3 sports articles deemed super relevant for today.

I’ll be in NY on the first weekend of May and just found out who’ll be in town. Now, if anyone with a crystal ball could tell me on which day Felix will pitch that’d be much appreciated.

Hmm…bed-ridden after being in the hospital, or at home, writing for ESPN.com?

    Nothing like self promotion

As long as I was home watching the game, I figured I’d make the most of it.

I liked the “blame Dave Sims” for the lost no hitter. My wifed walked in in the 7th inning to hear Dave Sims rattling on about the nohitter, her not much of a baseball fan, she proceeded to say ” He cannot say that, what an idiot”. My wife knew that, why didn’t Dave?

Okay guys…I hate seeing the assumed conclusion that someone out east (Red Sox or Yankees) will end up with King Felix. The Mariners have plenty of money to keep Felix happy for a long time.

What is the formula to keeping Felix with the Mariners for years to come?

  17. David J. Corcoran I on April 12th, 2007 12:47 pm

Win. We have to win. Felix will help us win. All hail Felix.

Yeah DMZ I too was at home yesterday sicker than a dog, scaring my cats because I kept yelling at the TV hoping that Sims would hear me. You’d think Blowers being a baseball guy would’ve smacked him upside the head when ever he mentioned the no-no.

Ugh..it was driving me insane, and I may now have to get my cats some therapy. I’m wondering if I can charge the bill to Sims?

I new the no hitter was doomed when I flipped to the NBA game on ESPN during a commercial break and they had a graphic announcing they were going to discuss it at halftime.

I hate seeing the assumed conclusion that someone out east (Red Sox or Yankees) will end up with King Felix.

This is becoming one of my pet peeves, and it seems to come up soon after any mention of The King. I know this isn’t a democracy, but I vote for adding snarky “he’ll look good in pinstripes” type comments to the Grounds for Deletion list.

I’ve generally tried to enjoy the present more (at least in sports) and it’s made me much more at peace as a fan. I highly recommend it over trying to project everything ten years into the future or put everything in historical perspective immediately. There’s a lot to enjoy just watching Felix pitch.

Game starting in about five minutes!! Who schedules a game for 4pm local time (in Boston, that is)?

  22. hub on April 12th, 2007 1:07 pm

    No matter…its a Rain Delay.

  23. bellacaramella on April 12th, 2007 1:10 pm

No game today, folks. They just called it.

  24. bellacaramella on April 12th, 2007 1:10 pm

    Makeup game is May 3.

  25. loki on April 12th, 2007 1:16 pm

So let’s see, we’ve played 5 games now and not played 5 games. Or to put it another way, we’re 10 games into the season with a record of 3-2. Bizzare.

So, I see Washburn is set to face Millwood now that today’s game was postponed. What does this do to the rest of the rotation?

I ask for purely selfish reasons: I live in LA and I want to see Felix pitch.

If they hold to the rotation he won’t pitch in LA next weekend at all. Is there any hope? Can they skip Weaver’s start? It’s not like it would hurt him or the team.

Sorry, is the link supposed to advertise the DMZ post or Simmons’s blog? I read the latter first; he refers to “Mike Hargrove’s penchant for blowing out young arms”. WTH? Did this actually occur, at all? Seems to me that Hargrove has actually been relatively safety-conscious in this aspect. Seems to me the injuries to pitchers that have occurred under his watch have been freak happenings, not anywhere near due to overuse.

  28. Slippery Elmer on April 12th, 2007 9:56 pm

OK, read the DMZ piece. Pretty good, reminds me of Simmons’s style of writing. I like the Kurosawa reference. One slight objection: “If your audience hurls things at the television and screams, ‘Shut up, shut up, shut up!’ maybe you should shut up.”

How is Sims supposed to hear TV viewers? Maybe if he could he’d’a shut up.

Also, Felix apparently had two walks, not one. Otherwise, congrats to DMZ for apparently being *this* close to making it to the big time–a regular gig on a major Internet sports site (not that USSM isn’t major, of course.)

  29. Slippery Elmer on April 12th, 2007 9:57 pm

    writing = column

He’s not. He’s supposed to know that people get really mad about this, and stop doing it. It doesn’t have to be literal.

Though frankly, this makes so many people so mad you’d think he’d hear it.
