Game 6, Rangers at Mariners
DMZ · April 13, 2007 at 6:53 pm · Filed Under Game Threads
The M’s have the fewest games played of any team.
Kevin Millwood v Jarrod Washburn.
In honor of Dave’s trade value post, let me kick off the first yearly edition of “would you flip ‘em?”:
C: Laird v Johjima
1B: Teixeira v Sexson
2B: Kinsler v Lopez
SS: Young v Betancourt
3B: Blalock v Beltre
LF: Kata v Ibanez
CF: Hairston v Ichiro!
RF: Cruz v Guillen
DH: Sosa v Turbo
P: Millwood v Washburn
Some surprisingly interesting choices there.

Funny. I think our lineup is bad, but I wouldn’t flip most of our guys for theirs.
I’d flip Johjima and Washburn. Sosa and Turbo is a pick-’em.
Teixeira is the only for sure for me. I assume these are a straight up deal with no salary considerations.
I just noticed something on the doubleplay twins commercial… When they are eating burgers together, the white bags in the background says “Yum” burgers.
You may remember Yum burgers from the Talk to the Glove commercial.
It’s Vidro Time.
Johjima, Teixeira, Kinler, Betancourt, Beltre (grudgingly), Ibanez (tough one, though), Ichiro (ditto), Guillen, Sosa.
(Where’s Wilkerson)?
…and Millwood too.
I’d like to point out that on this MLB.tv game preview (very cool, by the way), Seth Everett talks about the goodness of Felix Rodriguez’s dominance over Boston.
How’d that not get caught in editing?
W.T.F.
Again, FSN is really starting to piss me off. I’m in Medford, and I’ve got some damn FSN Baseball Report, even though the guide says Mariners..who in the sam hell do I complain to?
there is some weird channel..like 14 where the game is on here in McMinnville
As long as Felix doesn’t pitch for the Sox or Yankees, he’s always going to get the “who is that guy?” treatment from the mainstream sports media.
Don’t look now, but with the loss in Boston for the Angels, the Mariners are now in 1st place in the AL West.
I’m not joking. They really are! (maybe for about 2 hours
)
I’ve got Charter Cable…so I have no clue.
I have yet to been able to watch a M’s game because of FSN northwest.
MLB.tv is still looping their game preview…
Hargrove is an idiot..sounds like President…nevermind
Grover yawning a few minutes before the first pitch says it all.
I’d watch the MLB.tv, but I’m in the Blackout Area according to MLB. ugh..
fsn is still looping commercials.
Can o’ worms that. Can’t see it staying.
Comcast or FSN shit itself, and that may be why the game hasn’t started.
As for Felix Rodriguez, my Dad (who’s a pretty knowledgeable fan) called A-Rod “Alex Fernandez,” and Jeff Nelson “Gene Nelson,” for the first 5 or years of their careers. He finally stopped doing that a couple years ago.
lol, blowers is talking about washburns belt high, middle of the plate 4 seam fastball like its a good thing.
How many people at the game? 15,000? haha
We’re wearing our ugly uniforms! Goodie!!!
I’ve seen high-school teams with nicer threads.
FSN has the game, I can see it on Directv.
has washburn thrown anything other than fastballs?
I’ve seen high-school teams with nicer threads.
I’ve seen high-school teams with more people watching their games.
Damn there goes the no-hitter.
Fly-tastic goodness in every bite.
Could you imagine Safeco without Ichiro or Bloomquist on the team..there would probably be 5,000 fewer people..yikes!
C’mon, that’s not entirely true.
Guillen with chess knight-like route to that “hit”
I swear to god I’m in hell..I didn’t have this problem last year. But FSN has yet to air a M’s game here in good ole Southern Oregon. I lucked out one night because they played the A’s, and we get a channel that carries the A’s and Giants.
Not only are the M’s first in the west, they also tie the Braves and the Indians with fewest losses in all of baseball. Amazing. Can we stop the season right here?
(The Indians is obvious, but damn, the Braves have got off to a fast start. And how about Bob Melvin and the Diamondbacks?)
beltre is good.
washburn threw all fastballs except that one change that missed by 4 feet.
what a crowd! did they even do the National Antheme or did everyone just stand up and say a little about themseleves?
Rainout for the Rainiers, by the way.
Time to first hit:
Felix: 8 innings
Washburn: 3 batters
no one i hate more than ichiro when he is struggling.
lol, beltre hates safeco so much.
C’mon, that’s not entirely true.
Texas high-school football? Easily.
I HATE FSN I HATE FSN I HATE FSN I HATE FSN I HATE FSN I HATE FSN I HATE FSN I HATE FSN I HATE FSN I HATE FSN I HATE FSN I HATE FSN I HATE FSN
The real cagematch:
Hairston or Willie?
Hairston hit decently for a half a season once, which is more than Bloomers has ever done, so Hairston.
That was Vidro’s best swing of the year!
OK, I’m dumb, I thought we were talking about baseball.
Let me guess, you too live in Oregon.
yup
Turbo charged line drive single!
T-T-T-T Turbo!!!!
Simple Answers to Questions, one in a series
Niehaus: And that is ripped down the line, will Vidro come around to score?
DMZ: No
okay that’s three bases in under two minutes, he might need a PR
46- This was never a problem last year. I’m wondering why the change?
Man, I’m faster than Vidro.
screw it, Im gonna go see the Aqua Teen Movie.
Go M’s
oh and SG-1
How do you NOT score on a two out double down the right field line? Crap, even one of the Molina brothers could’ve made it home on that one.
Niehaus: And that is ripped down the line, will Vidro come around to score?
DMZ: No
PositivePaul: A different question — will he make it to second base.
that was a fairly crucial failure
Aaaand any other player but Vidro would have made this a 1-0 game…
ugh of course..FSN is covering the Blazers…good god.
Did anyone else believe they heard Raul screaming at Vidro, as they round the bases, “MOVE YOUR FAT ASS!”? I would not have been suprised to see Raul pass Vidro at third.
You know, the M’s are 3-0 when I’m watching the game on mlb.tv, and I’m watching tonight! Because of that, we’re probably going to win.
#60 now that is a meaningful statistic for prediction future performace.
Washburn looks a whole lot better tonight. Nice control.
It looks like Good Washburn is here tonight.
LOU!!!!!!!
I miss Mt. Piniella.
Lou Piniella, being a total prick to someone for no reason, and being celebrated for it.
Apparently they’ve started up in Tacoma after a delay.
Blow-top Lou was in great form on that clip! Darn, Lou could work wonder for this team, he’d be perfect.
Aw c’mon Dave – he is so adorable! That’s why he’s celebrated.
If only everyone were so cute while being a total prick.
crud I had the sound down, what did Lou do? I saw the inning where the wheels fell off for Zambrano -entering the fifth with a 5-0 lead, walking a few, hitting one, giving up 6 runs…
But have Marines been called Dodger Dogs?
Yeah, he is a prick, but that’s what the Cubs need right now.
Dave,
What would be your answer to the question posted in the intro to the game post?
When the M’s fire Hargrove I want Joseph Elliot Girardi to manage this team.
#72: So Lou wasn’t prick enough before today’s game?
74- sure, and Dan Rohn can be his bench coach!
I have a feeling that Girardi will manage the Yankees after Torre retires.
Teixeira and Millwood are obvious. I could be talked into Kinsler and Laird, but I’m not passionate about either one. And Sosa for Turbo, just for the contracts.
Eat it Beltre..ugh
76. And Edgar as hitting coach.
Smart pitching by Washburn, you don’t mess with a .253 SLG%
Mike Blowers, explaining why fielding percentage is useless. Awesome. Well done Mike.
Yah..we’re back to playing like little leaguers!
DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEFEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNNNNNWSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEE
Thanks Dave
Insert Tiger pitcher joke here.
betencourt looking pretty casual there
LOL — No, he can do better than that. Just ask Dribble.
Bob Geren in Oakland: Haren all over the place, walks two, loads bases w/no outs, Abreu coming up, no mound visit?
Trade Ichiro now? before his trade value gets lower? wow…he’s looked terrible this year
Ichiro kinda sucks right now.
So what’s called for? Ritual strangulation of Ryan Theriot?
There was some sarcasm in that last post..but still…Ichiro looks terrible
Dribble?
How about this new pacman thing? It’s much more entertaining than pong!
Agree, Ichiro is looking bad right now. I read somewhere where Ichiro thought he was dissed when Dice-K threw him a curve ball the first pitch of the game.
Ichiro! looked pretty awful last April too. Just give him a little time.
uggghhh… the 4th inning and you know what that means… dave sims.
would you flip sims for fairly? i might…
MLB.Com has a blackout for me even though I’m a minnimum of 9 hours away from the ballpark. Keep me updated on what’s happening, please. I’m in exile in New Orleans.
3rd times a charm on the DP..geez
Okay, so I haven’t really heard much of Sims yet, I thought you guys were praising him, what’s the beef?
Double dose of the Double Play Twins.
I love Betancourt but he was pretty nonchalant on that first DP try.
I’d trade Sims for Fairly as long as Fairly was limited to Play by Play on TV.
I like Sims.
Also, John Mabry is hitting 3rd for the Rockies tonight. John Mabry.
A WALK? Walks aren’t gitty!
Dave, don’t. Corco will go on a grand-mal posting spree with happiness.
105- Where is Al Martin? Batting 2nd for the Yankees then?
well the rockies have never really had a true 3 hitter
OK, I’ve been dumping on Vidro big-time this season, but tonihgt he is looking very good at the plate. Still can’t run worth a darn though…
I mean tonight…
Kevin Millwood now has a 0-8 GB/FB rate for the game.
Not anymore.
101 –
his voice grates on my nerves for one. and he is just very unoriginal, uses the same old tired phrases and cliches. i dont know, hes just not for me. sometimes it seems like he’s trying to talk himself into being more excited than he is, too. blowers is great though…
I like Sims too. I’d like him more if he’d figure out that it’s okay, especially on TV, if there isn’t someone talking all the time. That might come with time though.
I just looked at the batting averages of our lineup. Wish I hadn’t. Mendoza would be proud.
I mean Ron Dibble, the Red relief pitcher. Didn’t Sweet Lou go postal on him in Cincy?
[Rizzs]
case in point I turn on the sound for the first time and he’s been talking about peanuts and cotton candy for over a minute…
By the way, Tui went 2-3 with 2 more walks tonight, giving him four walks in the past two games. He’s now hitting .433/.541/.600 through the first 9 games.
118. Rizzs is on radio right now, I think he got demoted to that.
Rizzs is permanently on the radio this year.
Dave, at what point does that stop being “small sample size” and start being a reliable indicator of real improvement?
I always think it’s funny when, before an M’s game, the announcer starts to give the M’s batting order and about halfway through he realizes it is identical to every other game the M’s have played and starts to wonder why he is doing it. You can hear it in their voices, if they don’t comment on it.
wow, Sims does enjoy talking…imagine if he was a commentator for golf! JUST SHUT IT
Jesus, Sims cackles like The Joker.
Sims find Blowers hilarious, Blowers never laughs at Sims’s jokes. Ever.
Great..now we only have 1 starting pitcher thats good..sigh
I’d imagine it has to do with doing college basketball games and football radio games. In basketball, there’s always something going on, and doing radio obviously you need to describe more of what’s going on. Hopefully as he gets used to doing baseball fulltime, he’ll realize that he doesn’t always have to be talking.
Does anyone think the Mariners anemic offense can put up even 2 runs in this game?
I’d give Sims a chance.
When Fairly first came to the M’s, I thought he was a terrible broadcaster, but over the years he seemed to improve.
Either that, or compared to Henderson…
Yeah I do. I think they’ll put up 6 actually.
Staff of aces? Really? Really?
Staff of Aces? There’s no truth in advertising.
That FSN commericial for the M’s vs. Twins was a huge loud of crap.
Gotta love Kenji. He’s on fire.
Given that hardly anyone else is hitting at the moment, it might be time to move Kenji up in the order
watch Johjima put up a .330 line this year with Ichiro at .275..hilarious
Johjima is the only Mariner that’s been hitting so far this season.
Well, Sims has improved since opening day where he was over the top. It just seems the longer the game goes on the more he feels he has to talk. Who cares that you watched every hole at the Masters? Sick to the game. Also, it’s obvious that Washburn can’t pitch high, every hit the pitch was above the belt. Keep it down already.
Rally!
Come on J. Lo!
This would require original thought on Grover’s part. No way he would do that until at least June.
Bunt? With the Rangers Offense?
Sometimes I’m more excited for the bottom of our lineup than the top of our lineup…. I don’t know if any other team can say that.
Mike Blowers Guide to Pitch Identification
–
1. Was it a pitch? (yes/no)
It was a “cutter” of some kind.
Nevermind.
beautiful
And of course, his first GB out is a double play, go us.
149: His first GB out was Jose Guillen earlier.
OMG ICHIRO WALKED!
Lame. First two batter get a hit and zip out of it. Lame.
BOOOOOOOOOO…I hate our offense. Its been 5 years since we have had an offense that can consistently put runs on the board.
I’d be willing to bet that the M’s don’t extend Beltre’s contract at any point.
This offense will end Hargrove’s tenure as the Mariner’s manager.
Not to mention Beltre is back to popping the ball up again cause he swings up.
154:
Promise?
I don’t know if I’d trade Vidro for Sosa.
156. I GUARANTEE IT!
Dave, at what point does that stop being “small sample size†and start being a reliable indicator of real improvement?
It started being an indicator of improvement a few days ago. At this point, there’s no doubt – Tui is a significantly better player than he was a year ago.
This might sound weird, but with Sosa’s strikeouts and the safeco powerdrain, I’d probably rather have Vidro (I’d have neither)
160: That’s what I was thinking. Maybe it would be cheaper to release Sosa, so that might be one reason to do that trade.
I believe we’re paying Vidro a lot of money through 2009, which makes it unlikely that the team will dump him until sometime in 2009. I’d rather have Sosa on his 1-year deal.
I don’t mind Sims, at least he has some enthusiasm, but Blowers sounds like he want to be anywhere else but at the game. Deadly. Plus, I’ve yet to hear any kind of insight from him. It’s going to be a long year listening to him.
With Sosa, you can cut him and be out $1 million bucks. Then, replace with a Broussard/anyone platoon and wham, instant upgrade and lots of cost savings.
OH YAH…MATEO! Game over…Hargrove is throwing in the towel
163. I agree with your thoughts on Blowers. His utter lack of enthusiasm makes me long for Ron Fairly who provided some valuable insight.
Alright, Mateo! We’ve won every game he’s pitched in this year.
Snelling, despite hitting like a Mariner, has a better OBP than anyone on the team. He’d look nice in the 2-hole rather than having Beltre pop out from there 3 times per game.
Nice hustle RRRAAAUUUULLL!
After looking at Vidro, Ibanez looks like Rickey Henderson.
Raul, Turbo v2.0
Simply incredible that it was that close.
Can someone tell me where the term “letup” came from. I have never heard that before. Sims is the only one I have ever heard use that term. I can’t stand Sims. He won’t shutup!
Ah… but Blowers is essentially replacing Rizzs, Henderson, and Valle as the TV color commentary guy … and I’d take him every single time over those other guys.
So Raul is at least 33% faster than Vidro.
A ‘let-up’ is a non-fastball. Less effort put into the pitch. I’ve heard it before, but I have no idea where.
uh.. and my post above … Rizzs was the tv pbp guy … so scratch him from that list. I’d still take Blowers over Henderson and Valle. Though I am slightly curious about Valle’s hair restoration.
I know what it is…I have never heard it before
Did Sims just…
Someone unplug Sims’ mike
We’re a Betancourt bomb from tying this game up. Cuba Libre!
nothing like swinging at a 1-0 breaking ball at your ankles.
what did Sims say?
This game is good news.
Is Mateo this year’s official sponsored towel, brought to you by Bed, Bath, and Beyond?
Oh man, Mateo. This is going to be brutal.
Time for some ground balls!
The fact that Hargrove is using him, down by 3, is a good sign. He’s not saving him for a one run lead.
So, is Mateo the designated 7th inning pitcher, regardless of score or situation?
Did Sims just…
TiVo says yes, yes he did.
And Betancourt was out by half a step.
And that I might like Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends.
However, it may not all be true. It suggested that I’d like Tavolata, and I didn’t all that much.
Another letup!
188 agreed.
Mateo is up in the strike zone. He might get away with it for one inning.
Don’t you get in trouble for saying… things like that?
Maybe there was a baby in the stands nearby?
That was a Safeco flyout. Mateo got away with one.
I… I didn’t see one.
Two outs by deep fly balls. Julio “Gasp!” Mateo.
y’all are killing me! What did he say?
Me neither, but, um, maybe we missed it. I’m thinking he can’t be that dumb.
Based on the conversation, I’d guess he called the ball girl a ‘babe.’ I’d tell you, but at this point I’m only half paying attention to the game.
c’mon, you guys are making it sound like he pulled an Imus, what did he say?
Well, he didn’t call her nappy-headed, so probably not.
I don’t know why, but it reminded of that old Bloom County strip where Oliver breaks into the New York Times computers and changes the headline to “Reagan calls women ‘America’s Little Dumplings.’”
I wish they’d do a Fantagraphics thing with the strips, or a coffee table compendium like with Calvin and Hobbes.
I don’t know. There was a weird pause, he reached for something to say, and there it was. I couldn’t believe it.
And it just sounded weird. Anyway, it’s been frustrating watching the offense tonight.
this game feels very familiar, I feel like I’ve seen this before
Ive already taken enough punishment having been born and living in Maryland!
I gotta know…
Did I just see Bloomquist playing short? And if so, why?
Nah, it was Sexson at first. Just an odd angle.
Mateo pitched out of it. Who would’ve guessed?
Dodged the bullet there….
Why does the box score on ESPN say, under temperature, “indoors”?
Especially since, under wind, it says 5 MPH.
Here you are, all you TV-less folks.
So… what’s wrong with Ichiro?
PH Bloomquist for Ichiro next time
what does “spitting” refer to?
Lopez scores on Adrian’s double, yet Vidro would’ve had to hustle just to get to third…maybe
Hey! Another run! That’s kind of cool.
Awesome DW, thanks!
And agreed, thats insane to hear from a baseball commentator.
Have we gotten a hit with RISP today?
That sure is a pretty blue glove CJ Wilson has. Really brings out his eyes.
216: I’m guessing he was talking about chewing tobacco, meaning she’d be like a real baseball player or something dumb like that. Except when you put it in another context, it’s rather funny.
Good job by Beltre.
Why does Beltre always seem to drive the ball to that Bermuda Triangle out in CF? And why won’t the M’s adjust the walls to fix that corner?
222- the other context..hahaha
I HATE OUR OFFENSE…damnit..its like watching 12 year olds
I guess Ichiro’s “swinging at the ankles” method wasn’t convincing enough for Vidro to learn not to
Nice…back to the swinging at the first pitch garbage that doesn’t seem to work very often…if at all
Isn’t Gagne going to pitch the 8th for the Rangers? That’ll be good. Might be able to do something against him since that’ll have to be his first regular game appearance in two years.
hahaha @ sosa doing his hop.
wow that’s a scary way to get outs
Mateo is giving up some bombs for outs…
Big Sammy would have had that one out.
I thought the old Money Tree commercials were abysmal, but the new ones, wow, they’re awful.
George is looking somewhat less pear-like this year.
224. How would you “fix” it? Personally I’d like to see it in play.
Sexson showing the gold glove caliber defense our newspapers touted when he signed.
That slide into the bag was about the worst idea I’ve ever seen. He was just asking to get spiked or kneed in the face. And running through the bag is faster!
Awful.
Nice play by Sexson…too bad our D has been “less than stellar” when they had men on base. That may well be the difference in the game.
Well that & our complete cluelessness with RISP of course.
Could have sworn that at the top of the game the announcers said that Gags would pitch tonight.
237….that was suicidal..crossing the path of the runner and leaving your whole leg out there to get run over…he was so lucky to not get hurt
I guess instead of “nice” I should’ve said something more like, “I’m amazed he made it w/o killing someone or screwing it up”
So nice “for him” might be more accurate perhaps, lol
If he runs through the bag, its a nice play. The slide was just insane.
Sims: “What do the Japanese pitchers have in common? Besides being Japanese”
Is there anything even remotely illegal about that leg kick/leg movement that probably throws off timing of hitters?
Love the insight by Blowers on Japanese pitchers: They have a hitch in their windup, they try to hide the ball as long as possible, and they are control pitchers. That’s insight?
Imagine if anyone else had a clue in the batter’s box this year like Kenji.
Gagne’s pitching the 9th.
I’d imagine it qualifies for people who know pretty much nothing about Japanese baseball, which I’d say goes for much of the people watching the M’s games on tv.
Why in God’s name isn’t Joh batting third?
Anytime you have to phrase a question with “If there is a blanket statement you could use to sum up….” you should just not ask it.
Kenji’s gotten some easy pitches to hit. Almost every guy on the team could rip that belt high, middle-in fastball. Not Turbo, but everyone else.
not smart a smart swing… oakland tied NYY in 7th
Seriously, Dave or anyone else…
Is it all coincidence or is there a reason we can’t hit w/ RISP tonight? I mean could it be their pitchers are “bearing down” (or some other cliche) or are we just not relaxed enough with a chance to score a runner (not named Vidro) w/ a single?
We have plenty of hits without RISP tonight, so what gives?
not a smart post either
If there was ever a game Gagne could be remotely vulnerable…
Love the swings we’re putting on the ball with RISP/2outs…they look tentative and more like they’re looking to not strike out or are trying to impress Grover and move the runner over with two outs…
256- exactly what i was thinking…they are looking to hit the ball even if that means an out…its kind of how Boston approached Felix the other night..just swing to hit it and hope something happens. Thus, we see a lot of weak swings.
Sadly, I think those are the Mariners’ normal swings.
We have plenty of hits without RISP tonight, so what gives?
This line-up isn’t that good.
Game Over
So… I notice Putz isn’t throwing anything but fastballs … is there still something wrong with him?
Crap!
hmmph
damn
Sims points out “what a battle”
Uh…should their #9 hitter named Kata, really be able to “battle” JJ? Much less win said battle with an effin’ HR?
Ugh
Gagne!
Broussard being given the Petagine treatment this year. You get to bat twice a week in the ninth inning vs their closer each time.
Good luck
I just figured out what it is with Blowers. He sounds like Tom Bodett.
Mike Blowers should be penned in for Ben Stein in the remake of Ferris Beuller’s Day Off.
Bueller. Beuller. Beuller.
I used to think there was something to the weather and Safeco causing our hitters to have warning track power but Beltre’s hitting the warning track again tonight while two of their little guys have went yard so I’m not sure what that says…other than maybe I see Sims saying “he’s dealing tonight” about opposing pitchers that otherwise look very hittable…
Nice hit Ben!
Mike Blowers, as MST3K put it, Just Doesn’t Care.
Will we see a second 3-k game of the week for Ichiro?
could broussard be our best hitter?
He is a dead ringer for those Motel 6 commercials, lol
If Ichiro gets on, that Kata blast could REALLY start to hurt
Fastball may be clocked at 93, but it sure doesn’t look the same as in his heyday. No movement from what I can see. And it is very strange to see Gagne in anything other than a Dodger uni…
Should’ve saved Bloomquist in case Vidro gets on.
Run, Willy, Run!!!!!!!!
Those New Era Polyester Caps look cheap. I’m thankful I still have a wool M’s cap.
Someone stole Ichiro’s mojo.
Ichiro sucks
*mostly kidding*
Ichiro is getting on my nerves
Or a 3rd if Sims is correct … and if he is, I believe that tops the number of them he’s had in his American career, which can’t be a good sign.
Ichiro’s bat looking about as slow as Vidro’s legs…no really
But they also had a lot of warning track shots (reply the part where Mateo was pitching, for examples).
why the hell are we pinch running for broussard. and why wait 2 pitches into the at bat, and what the hell is wrong with Ichiro, and I just wasted 3 hours. Seriously though, go Mariners, its good they are able to get a game in.
Was Sims just doing his Joker impersonation?
Boy we sure made Gagne work after Broussard’s nice job (eyes rolling)
How fast can Ichiro hurt his trade value? haha (kinda kidding too)
I don’t know what happened there, here is what I meant to quote:
and then point out the Rangers had a lot of warning track shots.
So apparently the M’s best chance to win is for their pitcher to give up 1 run or fewer. That being the case, wouldn’t it be smarter to pitch Felix every 5 days rather than sticking with a strict rotation as they appear to be doing by throwing Weaver on Tuesday and Felix on Weds?
Well Gagne did look too bad today. The Mariner offense though is pretty bad right now. You know it’s bad when your offense is pretty much Vidro/Johjima. Yikes! Day game tomorrow. What sucks though, I’m going to be in New Jersey next Wednesday, so I’ll miss Felix.
I would flip Kinsler for Lopez, Young for Bentencourt, Blalock for Beltre, and Millwood for Washedup.
Im so thankful we have Felix..otherwise I would become a very depressed fan
Look on the bright side.
With any luck at all, Weaver could have that ERA down to three digits within a month this way.
273: third?
Wait add Texiara
This was really frustrating:
Seattle AB R H RBI BB SO LOB AVG
Suzuki, 4 0 0 0 1 3 2 .182
Beltre, 5 0 1 1 0 0 3 .136
The outs these two made in the situations they made them just killed us. Beltre wiped out the value of his double by making a one or two run error — depending how to calculate the impact of the error.
The M’s offense has not looked good thus far: 3.33 runs per game. BUT they’ve faced Harden, Dice-K, Beckett and Millwood in 67% of their games. The hitting over all hasn’t been so bad as much as the opposing pitching has been pretty damn good. Ichiro is cold but as soon as he heats up I think this team will start to score some runs.
Ichiro sure looks like a guy who is enjoying his time…
I wouldn’t necessarily worry about Ichiro (didn’t see the game), but I’m guessing he’s going through one of those streaks where he’s going to hit .200. He’ll even it out later by going .500 for a week or two.
Is it time for the annual ritual of asking, “What’s wrong with Ichiro” yet?
Ichiro has just struckout 7 times in his last 3 games. I don’t remember Ichiro ever going through a stretch like this.
Most of Ichiro’s slumps are fueled by a stretch where he gets a little too pull happy, not by him going on a strikeout binge.
292 – weird…. I am going to be in New Jersey next wednesday as well.
Business trip always come at the wrong time….
Depending on where you are staying maybe we could get down to philly or NY and catch a game……..jspsax2005@yahoo.com
I’d dig that, but my meetings don’t end until 8:00 p.m.
With the offense struggling, what are the chances that Hargrove pulls out his secret weapon today? Ignition!
am i missing something or is this game starting early?
This is like the Twilight Zone, game started, MLBtv isn’t blacked out even though there’s a different FOX game in my region, no game thread, only one new comment here…
Yeah, it was like a 12:55 start. Kind of odd but HD broadcast on channel 113 is available on cable. Batista continues to display that combination of blazing speed and matchless control that has made him the darling among AARP-qualified major league pitchers.
At least he got out of the inning without any damage.
hahahah, willy has found a purpose!!!!!
I’m feeling lost without an official game thread! This one just isn’t the same.
TUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUURBO!
local boy WFB gets a talking role on national TV!
There’s a good job for Willie. Fox should hire him full time.
He is sooo good at grounding out. So very good.
Doyle OPS: .914
Turbo: 414
There’s an entire Carl Everett of difference between those two figures.
Ichiro still looks bad. Glad the Mariner batters still remember all that spring training work on being patient at the plate. A nine pitch inning. Sheesh.
beltre with another warning track bomb. how did he turn those into homeruns in 2004…..
Hey what pick do the Mariners have in the june draft?
wait I wasn’t paying attention, did we just bat?
320, he heated up late in the year, in the hot LA summer, when those would carry over the wall
Great. So after we’re done watching Willie pop-up to 2B for a decade, we get to spend another 20 years listening to him in the booth. Thus emphasizing ‘grit’ over ‘talent’. I’ll pass.
Wow, two innings and Batista hasn’t given up a run yet. Miracle.
DOYLE!!!!!
DOYLE! Son of bitch.
What we’re seeing now is Good Beltre. Last night he hit the ball hard twice, then popped out, then crushed his double, then hit into a double play. Yeah, he made a bunch of outs, but his first two hits not finding holes were bad luck. He could have easily been 3-5 last night with 3 doubles.
Tonight? SafeCo knocks another one down. Bad luck for Adrian.
New thread for today’s game is up.
Offense is just pathetic right now. Yuck…
