Stiff lower back for those with the sound down. No need to panic.

  2. Joe Bag o' Doughnuts on May 25th, 2007 7:21 pm

199… he just puts a pinch between his cheek and gum, how bad can it be?

  3. bhsmarine on May 25th, 2007 7:22 pm

Felix Hernandez also has a injured back according to gameday. Is that the shoulder tendonitis of the future?

  4. skipj on May 25th, 2007 7:23 pm

I like that they pulled Felix, and I like that he argued. Is scrappiness contagious? Is the Ignitor in fact the contagionator? Or is he simply a RLP with a local connection? So many questions! Where are the answers?…oh, well they all seem to be right here. Never mind…

In other news, Austin Bibens-Dirkx changed his name today to Sean Orange. Unfortunately, the team wasn’t informed before Huber was called up.

(Between White and Green, is the bullpen going to put on a Reservoir Dogs production during some rain delay?)

  6. _David_ on May 25th, 2007 7:24 pm

Just to mention, Meche also had a stiff lower back…gameday has screwed up before…Did the anouncers say this?

  7. DMZ on May 25th, 2007 7:25 pm

The “base knock” thing is starting to grate on me.

  8. DMZ on May 25th, 2007 7:26 pm

    R E N T O NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

  9. Tek Jansen on May 25th, 2007 7:26 pm

I assume that Felix’s lower back stiffness is of the same degree and consequence as Meche’s. Both of them are fine, and both of them needed to come out, so their respective clubs made up an injury which will vanish by early next week.

  10. pumpkinhead on May 25th, 2007 7:27 pm

Oh, the possible jokes that come to mind with “Riske”…

  11. mark s. on May 25th, 2007 7:28 pm

    DMZ,
I take it you have some connection to Renton?

  12. Thom Jimsen on May 25th, 2007 7:29 pm

DMZ, time for a phrase-ban list?

    — “Base knock”

    — “Walk-off”

    — “Funk” anything

    — BP terms like LOOGY, TINSTAAPP, Three True Outcomes and “fungible”?

  13. DMZ on May 25th, 2007 7:30 pm

You’re in a mood today, Jim. You know I’m a fan, but… wow.

  14. bhsmarine on May 25th, 2007 7:30 pm

Any reason you don’t like the term Walk-off?

  15. DKCecil on May 25th, 2007 7:31 pm

    Turbo!

  16. David* on May 25th, 2007 7:31 pm

    HUSTLE!

  17. DMZ on May 25th, 2007 7:31 pm

I love that Sims is cracking up admitting that they don’t know anything that’s not in the press guide. It’s one of the endearing qualities that he doesn’t at all take himself seriously.

  18. darrylzero on May 25th, 2007 7:32 pm

Can’t double up Turbo when he’s on first.

  19. DanO on May 25th, 2007 7:32 pm

If we have to have a phrase ban, can we please ban Thom Jimsen from asking that “funk” be banned every time someone says “funk blast” (and sometimes even when they don’t)? Actually, I’d just as soon not ban anything; it all seems pretty harmless, even if someone on occasion gets irritated.

  20. bhsmarine on May 25th, 2007 7:34 pm

I am just waiting for the day I can say Funk Walk-off…

  21. Tek Jansen on May 25th, 2007 7:35 pm

Actually, by removing Fairly, the M’s did ban, if inadvertantly, the phrase “that’s good hittin'”. I have not heard it once this year.

  22. Wells on May 25th, 2007 7:36 pm

My cat just let out a funk blast. It’s hard to breathe in here and she’s staring at me like what am I going to do about it.

  23. scraps on May 25th, 2007 7:36 pm

This is a happy game, but I am sad in the midst of it because I just found out Bat Girl has retired.

  24. Thom Jimsen on May 25th, 2007 7:41 pm

Eh. I’m at work and buried under bullshit stuff.

  25. zzyzx on May 25th, 2007 7:43 pm

Here’s the Rangers’ second so far:

    Walk
    Walk
    Walk
    Sac Fly
    Walk

Brandon McCarthy is at 50 pitches on the game already.

  26. zzyzx on May 25th, 2007 7:44 pm

    Rangers’ pitching that is.

  27. MedicineHat on May 25th, 2007 7:45 pm

Well, at least it’s not only the Mariners that high profile free agents bolt from:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2883178

In late February, Rashard Lewis rejected a two-year, $25 million contract extension from the Seattle SuperSonics. Months later, Lewis has totally rejected the Sonics.

According to KRIV in Houston, Lewis has officially opted out of the final two years of his contract on Friday so he can become an unrestricted free agent.

  28. Joe Bag o' Doughnuts on May 25th, 2007 7:48 pm

Maybe Lewis doesn’t want to move to Oklahoma.

  29. Thom Jimsen on May 25th, 2007 7:52 pm

Maybe Bloomquist wants to move to Oklahoma.

  30. DanO on May 25th, 2007 7:52 pm

    Who can blame him?

  31. dw on May 25th, 2007 7:54 pm

I would expect that if the Sonics do try to move to OKC, every player will demand to be traded or else they’ll all retire.

  32. Joe Bag o' Doughnuts on May 25th, 2007 7:54 pm

Has Sherrill been asking Felix if he “is gonna eat that”?

  33. JR Ewing on May 25th, 2007 7:55 pm

old news guys, that was decided half way thru the season, KRIV is blowing that up.

  34. pumpkinhead on May 25th, 2007 7:57 pm

I really wish Sherrill would bend his friggin cap. But I guess if he strikes out the side, I’ll allow it for another week. It almost looks like it’s bent UP

  35. joser on May 25th, 2007 8:40 pm

Man, the fangraph for this game is a long, slow, unrelenting slide into futility. Fortunately, it was Royals’ futility.

  36. msb on May 25th, 2007 11:11 pm

wow. and suddenly it went silent at 8:40? nothing more worth discussing? I guess I have to go hunt up the box score to find out what happened ….

  37. msb on May 25th, 2007 11:28 pm

    from Geoff Baker:

“Here’s Hernandez’s version of the conversation between him and Chaves on the mound before he was pulled.

FELIX: Chavey, look, I feel a little bit tired. But I can pitch.

    CHAVES: No.

    FELIX: I can pitch.

CHAVES: No, no. Come on, let’s go.

FELIX: Let me pitch. Let me pitch. I’m fine, let me pitch.

CHAVES: No, no. Come on. You’ve got an eight run lead. Let’s save it for next time.”

  38. Colorado M's Fan on May 26th, 2007 1:18 am

My favorite part of the game was after Vidro’s HR, they showed Vidro in the dugout giving high-fives, and the announcer (Sims of course) said, with a hint of reverance:

“Thats a professional hitter right there folks.” Oh, times I wish I was here at the game thread!

  39. Typical Idiot Fan on May 26th, 2007 3:46 am

From the “Official” Seattle Mariners site:

“Revised lineup: Hargrove moved Jose Guillen to the third slot for only the eighth time this season, batted Ibanez clean up and Reggie Sexson fifth. He said that allowed him to split the two right-handed hitters with the left-handed-swinging Ibanez.”

    Oh good lord…

  40. msb on May 26th, 2007 7:31 am

well, as we have been recently recently by the M’s themselves, seattle.mariners.mlb.com is not actually ‘their’ website — I believe the several fine fact-checking errors of late have all come since the loss of Corey Brock

  41. joser on May 26th, 2007 9:32 am

wow. and suddenly it went silent at 8:40? nothing more worth discussing?

Actually, if you look at the timestamp ahead of my post it went silent at 7:57. I came in 40 minutes later, well after the game had ended, to make my post about the fangraph — which pretty much shows the story for the final few innings: nothing worth commenting on. I figure people were either lighting candles for Felix’s health, or the server crashed.

  42. Jeff Sullivan on May 26th, 2007 11:40 am

Dave kind of gets this whole “buy the authors a refreshing beer” thing in the shorts, don’t you think?

  43. JMHawkins on May 26th, 2007 12:41 pm

    Reggie Sexson…

Well, a guy named Reggie owns the record for most career strikeouts. Perhaps they got them confused…

Quick, without looking at the link, who has the most career strikeouts among ex Mariners?

    a) Mike Cameron
    b) Alex Rodriquez
    c) Ken Griffey Jr.

And where would Richie Sexson be among those players?

  44. Typical Idiot Fan on May 26th, 2007 2:40 pm

And where would Richie Sexson be among those players?

Sadly, he’s not an “ex” Mariner yet.
