Game 49, Mariners at Angels
Felix vs Weaver, 7:05 pm.
Happy Felix Day. The M’s couldn’t ask for a better day to have their ace on the mound than the series finale with the team they are chasing for first place and the Mariners teetering on the verge of contention. Win tonight, cut the lead to 3 1/2 games, and head into June with a goal of cutting into that lead even further. Lose tonight, fall 5 1/2 back, and you’re looking at a tough climb to get back in this thing.
The M’s need the King to show up tonight. I have a feeling he will. This could be a lot of fun.

This game does have a nice buzz about it, I think King Felix proves that nickname big time tonight.
Are we looking at the standard M’s lineup for tonight?
Yahoo has
Ich
Vidro
Rauuuul
Guillen
Broussard
Joh
Beltre
Yuni
Lopez
Hey, if Ichiro can get hits in the next six games, he’ll be halfway to DiMaggio’s record.
Go M’s!
Good to see the M’s working the count, just like always.
Hey, Ibanez just drew a walk on four pitches. Is that what you were looking for, Dave?
Wow, light crowd tonight.
King me!
Jose must think Jered Weaver said something about his Mom. We’ll take it.
“Clutch two-out, nobody on run by the Mariners”
Oh Niehaus
I sense much anger in Mr. Guillen.
WOOO!! Patience pays off, and Guillen’s anger and hatred for the Angels.
81 MPH, chest high, with no movement.
Looks like his bro tonight
Does GEICO have any good commercials?
A change on the 3rd pitch of the game? Be still my heart.
He was up in the zone that whole at-bat. Even the two-seamer was up. He’s got to work the knees.
happy Felix day, y’all! wheeeeee
“Wow, light crowd tonight.”
Stanley Cup is in progress across the street. i was leaning towards heading up there tonight until i saw that little bit of information.
Broussard 4-9 lifetime against Weaver, Sexson 0-fer.
Is it just me, or does Orlando Cabrera kill the Mariners?
There goes the no-no.
It’s stuff like that that’s so maddening when watching Felix. He gets you to swing at something which is totally in his favor, you get nothing on it, and it rolls twenty-five feet for a base hit.
O Yuni….
YuBet, baby, you’re killing me here.
Yuni’s gotta make that play.
That was awful Yuni, but nice job on getting the DP Felix.
Is it just me, or does it look like the strike zone is all over creation today?
So when does the felix we saw the first two starts of the year come back?
Wow, don’t think we expected that to happen.
damnit
Sigh. That’s the frustrating Felix we saw last year – fall behind 3-0 and 3-1 and throw an absolute meatball of a fastball down the middle. A walk won’t kill you, Felix, but that’s a stupid pitch.
That was BS — the first 2 pitches to Matthews should have been called strikes.
Did that just happen?
This is the same Felix we’ve seen all year. He got a twenty-five foot roller and a hard ground ball. He made a mistake to Matthews, yeah. But the two hitters before didn’t really do that much with the ball.
Again?
Dave jinxed us.
egads!
Okay. Excuse me. I spoke too soon. Yeah, he’s thrown two meatballs here.
I hoped he had learned to mix his pitches when he falls behind. Apparently not.
Are you kidding? I am waiting for the guy in the Felix suit unzip himself and Jeff Weaver is going to pop out.
aaaaaaaaarrrghghhgghg
Looks a lot like the felix we saw all last year. Maybe he’s just one of those guys who’ll never actually put it all together. Which makes him a perfect fit for the Mariners.
DAMMIT
Life’s not worth living.
40: Act all doom and gloom about 1 inning, why don’t you. Sheesh.
#40: He’s way too young to start laying that on the guy. He looks like a phenomenally talented guy who needs polish, and has the work ethic to develop it.
To be fair he should have been out of the inning with a Vlad DP.
Re: #40
Man, we sure turn quickly on a 21 year-old pitcher having one bad inning.
as adam carolla would say…billT, HOW DARE YOU sir
At 21, you’re worried that he may never put it all together?
He’s a kid. He needs to learn to stop throwing 3-1 fastballs down the middle, but there’s no reason to be worried about Felix.
To me it’s pretty clear that he doesn’t have the same type of movement on his pitches, he’s probably not putting pressure on the seams of the baseball the way he’s always done it in the past (doing this can put stress on your elbow).
He’s already given up two home runs and two fly ball outs. While the combination of the count and pitch selection played a role in the results it’s pretty clear he doesn’t have the same movement on his pitches.
I benched Jered Weaver in my fantasy league today in honor of Felix day… no regrets
Yeah, lets give up on this 21 year old kid. If he hasn’t put it together by now he never will.
/sarcasm
Come on billT the kid just turned 21. He’s going to be streaky for a while get used to it. “never put it all together” is harsh after one bad inning.
“Maybe he’s just one of those guys who’ll never actually put it all together.”
right on. package this chump with Brian Holman and Gene Harris for Mark Langston.
the same movement on his pitches? He’s thrown fastball after fastball.
But why is he throwing heaters down the middle 3-0? I mean, we learned that was a bad idea in Jr. High.
The normal 2-seam Felix fastball is hard to get off the ground in any count because of the movement. Those two fastballs he threw to Matthews and Kotchman were straight.
The movement on his pitches is fine. He just threw a lot of four seam fastballs because he fell behind in the count several times, and his four seamer has never had much movement.
looks like we will be hitting baby weaver tonight
i predict a 7-6 M’s win
Don’t notice Felix shaking off pitches. So is he at fault for not mixing up on 3-0 or 3-1?
This guy is calling a tiny strike zone for both pitchers. He could turn this great pitching matchup into a firefight.
This game is not going to be a pitcher’s duel.
I didn’t see one Felix pitch called a ball that I thought was a strike.
Screw it. It’s a really nice night and I have better things to do than watch the M’s get killed. I’m sure it’ll happen plenty more times over the course of the summer.
Man, the M’s hitters swing at crap. I know this isn’t news, but their approach just sucks.
yeah, and according to Baker, Weaver will be back real soon with no Rehab starts because Weaver makes those desicions and not Hargrove. Guess it will be a really long summer.
That is a small strike zone today.
That wasn’t fun to watch after the two singles. Should have bunted them over.
63: And people say the authors of this site are negative? Some fan you are.
From the TV angle it looked to me like the first two pitches to Matthews were strikes — but of course I’m looking with SLIGHTLY biased eyes.
OK I’ll stop arguing balls and strikes now.
Mmmm…4-1 and the M’s are swinging at crap. Deja vu….
“He just threw a lot of four seam fastballs because he fell behind in the count several times, and his four seamer has never had much movement.”
True.
His four seamer is actually one of the straightest 98 mph fastballs I’ve ever seen.
And last year his main problems all came when he couldn’t locate his 2-seam fastball, however, I haven’t seen the type of 2-seam fastballs (even early in the count) so far in this game. I think there is a problem with the movement on his pitches right now, but I could be wrong.
We already give away plenty of outs without giving them away on purpose.
69: They sure look like strikes to me.
71: “The no movement fastball” is what commentators say when they have nothing to say. It’s BS. And there is no way of knowing whether a fastball moves on TV.
I’m not sure what pitches you want to have movement. That 95 MPH two-seamer to end the inning had some serious tail to it – the slider’s breaking, the change-up is diving. If you’re waiting for the four-seamer to do a u-turn into the dirt, I don’t know what to tell you.
72: Aaaand we’re down 4, not 1. AAAAAND it’s the second, not the seventh.
Actually, it’s pretty easy to tell when a fastball has movement on tv. I’d bet I could pick out the difference between Felix’s two seamer and four seamer, without a radar gun, from TV, with 90% accuracy.
I should have gone to Derek’s book event instead to give him some moral support and perhaps meet a hot baseball-loving chick. Ah well.
Or even a mildly hot one. Oh hell, anyone will do.
I got tricked. It looked like Jose got ahold of that one.
Felix allows the most bullcrap hits…
I actually think we’ve finally found another team that runs the bases as badly as the M’s!
I know it’s a bit later, but is that scoring decision on Vlads base hit the correct one? Sure looked like an error to me.
The only thing I can’t figure out is why Hargrove didn’t switch Broussard and Guillen in the lineup. Then it would be L-L-L-L-R-R-R-R-R.
Why the hell was Lopez playing behind the second base bag? That should have been an easy 4-3 putout.
Man that curve had no movement whatsoever.
72- We give away runs almost every time we don’t move runners over. We only have 1 sac fly this year, thats DUMB!
I was thinking the same thing dave
Belt high four seamer. Stop it.
Those balls can stop falling in anytime now.
1st pitch slider, swing and a miss. What do you know.
That was just filthy.
Did they have a shift on for Guerrero?
Dave, I’d be interested to know your thoughts on Yuni’s defensive struggles.
Lopez .302 .799
Ichiro .409 1.136 (2outs)
The BA and OPS of Lopez and Ichiro with RISP. The numbers would suggest to bunting them over.
Good job Weaver, you’re supposed to suck against lefties.

sample– oh forget it
ohh!
97- Agreed, but it is all I have to use on short notice.
You can’t convince me other wise since we still have 1 run. It was Yuni up there, not a power hitter. Yuni has a chance to be safe on his sac attempt with Aybar over at 3rd.
87: With respect, bunting runners over in the second inning down three runs is a terrible play, and you will lose far more than you will gain by doing so. That’s not my opinion, that’s a fact backed up by mountains of research. There are a few situations where a sacrifice is a sound play, but that’s not one of them. It’s frustrating to leave men on base, and doing things like bunting gives fans the reassuring feeling that the team is at least trying something, but every time you bunt in that situation you are gaining a small increase in likelihood that the team scores a run — not as much of an increase as you probably think — and giving away most of your chances to score more that one run.
Weaver looks a lot like Lincecum.
Sorry, I posted that before you said no one could convince you otherwise. Far be it from me to argue with pure belief.
95: There are times when that’s true…usually in late-and-close situations. I say this as Betancourt walks to load the bases. If he’d done that in the first we could have had a huge inning — which is what we need down three.
He looks like him except he doesn’t have filthy stuff like Lincecum does.
I just tuned in. When I saw the score, I thought that it must be Ramirez pitching, not Felix. Sad that Felix’s ERA and home runs allowed tonight is worse than Feierabend ‘s last night.
ok, bases juked, and it’s sill early here on the east coast, let’s make it interesting if I am going to be pulling a late nighter….
so is today “the return of the funk?” or are we still on funk blackout?
Ichiro is going to bunt. Keep the streak alive.
Hope fills my heart that Weaver will revert to the family norm.
we want the funk….we gotta have that funk.
Damn, that was too obvious.
funk single
Whaaaaaat? How did two not score on that???!
I-CHI-RO!
I don’t know how many of you are watching the mlb.tv broadcast, but the angels announcing crew bring up a good point. Off the top of my head, I’m not sure I can think of better 8,9 batters. Beta & Lopy can turn it around. What we don’t have in superstar sluggers we have in balance.
oh vidro, please don’t do it
vlad “the cannon” guerrero – 112
We need this game so badly, don’t f*** up Turbo.
Woo! Home from the gym just in time to see that! I watched Felix implode from the elliptical machine.
23 games!
Now, if Vidro does anything other than ground into a double play, I’ll be thrilled.
Oh no. Mr DP at the plate.
Cannon my ass. Even if his arm is decent, which it is, that wasn’t hit that hard.
Better than depending on Jose “Double play” Vidro. Man Turbo is a lot shorter to type.
100- Do you have a write up on that? I haven’t read anything like that but am new to the detailed stat baseball community. I am playing catchup to keep up with you guys on here.
Thanks Lopez and Ichiro for backing up my small sample size stats earlier.
Vidro is a waste of life essence.
here comes #2 from ibanez right here…
Just in case we weren’t already sure, Jose Vidro sucks eggs.
Carbon?
Now comes Raul “pop fly” ibanez.
Oh he got one to hit and missed it.
Hey, it wasn’t a double play; Vidro came through!
You can go retire anytime you want, Raul.
RAUUuuuuuuL?
As you once said, Lauren, we are down to one u.
A bloop pop, but a pop nonetheless.
114. We may have the best 8-9 hitters, but we suck in the 3-4 spots.
We can’t spell “success” without “u”.
bhsmariner (122) – I can’t point you to one particular article, but there have been many. Try a search on “run expectancy”.
Three people were up with the bases loaded, and none of them could hit the ball deep enough to get two runs in.
Thanks
any one see arod’s day today . . . a great example of bad to worse.
check the ny post and the recap from tonight’s game. fun times for him.
Felix seems to be out of shape.
137 – yea that first one to raul should have been parked.
Every time yuni throws i say a prayer.
BTW, anyone else get real excited when Beltre gets up to the plate these days?
M’s have earned USSM 3 bucks so far
I was gonna do 3 bucks minimum anyways though.
Gooooo M’s.
What happened with A-Rod?
This is more like the Felix I expected to see.
145: Whatever it was, I bet he got booed pretty good =)
yea could you post the link to the post recap? all i saw was yesterdays game or is that what you were talking about?
“Stray Rod” was the front page of the post, with a nice photo of him and a blonde (not his wife) going into the elvator around midnight, after a night out at the strip club in toronto.
i mean by now we all know about the blonde and the strip club in canada right?
Sims: “You want to get as many games over .500 as possible.”
Think that was noted in the game prep or just off the top of his pointy head?
then in the game tonight, he yelled “i got it, i got it” as the third baseman went to catch a routine fly. that guy led the ball drop. arod was a runner on the play. both benches cleared.
Now that I’ve said Yuni is my would-be official boyfriend, I feel a weird sense of shame whenever he blows a play. Still, I figure I’m helping him by not being his actual girlfriend, a la Susan Sarandon. *cough*
152. why is that guy such a bitch? who else does that stuff – slapping the glove in the playoffs a couple years ago, now this. what a bushleaguer…
Holy cow. Did a-rod really do that? I hope DMZ is talking about it right now.
That’s grit by definition.
Brousard!
frick.
nice hustle Benny!!!
that was a rip by joh joh
That should have bee Brousssard!
I love how objective these Angels announcers are
i’m sure theyre just as objective as mr sims
Tie game baby.
Good Beltre is good.
Beltre!
is AB hot hot hot or what?
Whoo hoo. Beltre’s on fire.
ADRIAN!
Yeah Beltre.
One hell of an AB by Beltre there. Sweet!
I freaking love good Beltre.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaadrrriiiiiiiaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnn!!
That definitely looked like a funk double to me.
How many more innings are we going to get out of Felix?
#162 — You ever listen to the White Sox guys? “Good guys” and “bad guys”, they don’t mess around.
A lead? whaaa?
Yuuuuuuuuuuni!! Finally, getting some hits strung together.
Yuni!!!
Your boyfriend comes through, Lauren!
I can’t figure out Yuni’s swing. It’s like he’s holding a tennis racket.
THAT’S MY NOT-REALLY-OFFICIAL-BECAUSE-I-DON’T-LIKE-STEALING-SOMEONE-ELSE’S-SCHTICK BOYFRIEND!
Weaver fails to go 5. Where have I heard that before?
175 – only 64 pitches so he could be good until the 7th or 8th easy if he keeps rolling. hopefully he doesnt stiffen up again after our long inning like he did in KC.
Maybe they’d like to substitute good weaver for crazy weaver.
ya sure, YuBetcha!
Wow, what a nice time to arrive and settle in for the game. Don’t know how Felix gave up four runs yet, but it’s been awfully nice seeing Adrian and Yuni come through just now!
There we go.
If A-Rod pulled the hidden ball trick, he’d be pilloried for it. Other guys would be admired.
I’m a sucker for that Wells Fargo ad, I have to say. Love that dog.
Jeff wishes he could have an outing like that.
I wonder what Beltre’s average is in southern cal
#187 — Felix gave up two bombs in a row in the first. Ouch.
That Edgar opening the roof spot reminds me of when the M’s commercials were worth viewing repeatedly.
From the game story: ‘”That’s evidently what happened, he made a noise,” Yankees manager Joe Torre said. “It’s not like he said, ‘I got it.’”‘
I’m a long time lurker, this is my first post on here, my question is how many on here think that Beltre may be finally turning the corner with the M’s and will be able to sustain being “good beltre” from now on, more like what we were expecting when we signed him?
Also gotta say that fangraphs is an addicting site . . .
I don’t need to see Gritty Willie while we are trying to take the series from the Angels.
i think we’ll have to settle for something halfway between Mariner Beltre and Dodger Beltre.
That was a weird at bat, huh?
another site said he yelled “mine”
How are the Mariners commercials this year? mlb.com cuts out the commercial breaks and I can’t find them on youtube
Coming into tonight’s game, Broussard had an OPS of .844. Sexson’s was 688. This would lead me to want to platoon them, but Sexson’s OPs is better against right handers (.696 vs. .667).
How in the world can a batter be 11 for 19 against Felix. I’ll never understand why Boston bailed on Cabrera.
My guess is he goes on this pitch…
202. Platoon a guy making as much cheddar as Sexon. Not going to happen.
Uh-oh.
When A-Rod did the famous glove slap, I didn’t think it was so terrible until he tried to argue that he didn’t do it; the slo mo replay clearly caught him redhanded (pun intended).
Nice stop by Joh
196 – welcome.
fangraphs is a great site its a hotlink in my firefox browser i go to everyday!
OY
Bad Vlad owns the M’s!
Like trying to sneak sunrise past a rooster.
Bad Felix is in the house.
Agghh. Never seen Felix that animated, in a negative way.
212. Or a doughnut past Rosie O’Donnell
Seriously, a 1-2 fastball up in the zone? What the hell. The pitch selection today has been absurd.
Why would you serve exactly what Vlad was looking for?
STOP THROWING THAT PITCH!
WHY do you throw a fastball to Vlad in that situation?
That belt high fastball needs to disappear soon… and not into the stands.
Well, hope was nice while it lasted.
So was checking the standings!
RE 201….
Take a look for yourself!
Why do you throw anything anywhere close to the plate?
Our turn now!
OK, it was a real relief to see those three outs. So far this season we haven’t gotten to see Felix persevere after giving up runs.
Well, at least we got to the bullpen early. Should be a while before we have to deal with the big guns.
Felix circa 2006 is in the house. Ugh.
Some go to Billy McHale’s for the drinks… others go for the diarrhea.
Chavez or someone needs to step in pretty fast here. We are seeing 2006 Felix trying to beat everyone with his fastball. His pitch selection sucks since his return.
Vlad’s wallet is the one that says “Bad Mother Fucker”
230 – does vlad look like a bitch?
“Why would you serve exactly what Vlad was looking for?”
See, if Vlad is looking for something and knows the opposing pitcher knows that, then he isn’t going to look for it, he’s going to look for another pitch.
BUT, if the opposing pitcher knows this too, than perhaps the opposing pitcher is going to throw exactly what Vlad wants and hopes he is expecting something else.
Dave, do you imagine that the coaching staff is in Felix’s ear about his pitch selection tonight? Or do you think he’s getting bad advice? They must know that it’s been bad, right? But he is a “power pitcher” â„¢…
Tell me Ichiro was actually trying to bunt for a hit there.
felix just missed his spot on that fastball. plain and simple. i guarantee you that was supposed to be WAY high and outside on a 1-2 count…
Some Lifebouy Soap is needed in this forum
… and there are people here who actually defend Vidro. Geez, he sucks.
Pitch selection: Lou used to cal lthem from the dugout. Does Hargrove? Or does Kenji? I haven’t seen Felix shake off any signs. I don’t think you can blame it on Felix.
here comes #2 from rauul.
M’s 2-6 against the Angels because Anaheim is a superior team and they will win the AL West.
Any particular reason for Lifebouy? Dove makes a tasty soap.
Mike Scioscia must have lots of earwax.
This blog needs a funk blast to tie the game.
Ooooh, Ibanez did something good.
Vidro scored from first base?
RAUUUL
#2 bagger i meant. the 2 u’s in rauul are for the two bases he earned.
Actually if you look at Jo he was setting up inside. It was supposed to be tight inside.
Turbo scoring from first? Crazy stuff!
Arrrgh. Felix picked pretty much the worst night possible to be unlucky/shitty.
241. For the dirty mouths that display their limited knowledge of proper english.
Damnit, I was really hoping for a blowout either way so I could get some sleep. Living in CDT has its consequences when you believe the “Left Coast is the Best Coast”.
The best night for him to be shitty would be a game against the Red Sox. IMHO.
251- for the individuals who display their limited knowledge of film excellence.
Vidro scored from first because it was a double and he was running on the pitch (full count, 2 outs).
Is that supposed to be the brand of soap used on ralphy or something?
Every team has been sitting dead red on Felix’s fastball. His off speed stuff is dominating. I just don’t get what he and Kenji are thinking.
okay explain the soap stuff to me
That was the worst drag bunt I’ve ever seen.
Wow, I remember when the Braves traded Millwood and everybody thought they were insane. 6+ ERA? Ugh.
It looked like he was trying to get out.
I wonder what he was saying there, and to who?
255. I know, but it was Vidro running.
So one of the things about being young is that you don’t shake off your pitcher. Clearly today his best pitch is the curveball yet he hasn’t thrown many. People, patience. The kid just turned 21.
Oh, and the Woot Off sucks. Damn radar detector.
well, this isn’t what I expected from the evening
Felix is, as Dave pointed out in the previous thread, so much better on the surface than other pitchers on the staff. But his results suck as bad as everyone else lately.
C’mon Joh, show us some funk….
That cagefighting commercial is very disturbing. It’s not an indicator of a civilized intelligent populace. Lowest common denominator stuff.
We have to get a run here. After this it is Shields and Rodriguez.
251:
“English” not “english”. Proper noun.
Big Daddy Vlady? Are you kidding me? Is that the best these ass clowns can come up with?
258. See the movie ‘A Christmas Story’
271. I’m watching the game and typing at the same time. Give me a break!
273:
If you’re going to criticize someone else’s English, it might be a good idea to make sure you’re not making any “mistakes.”
269. I remember seeing a tape of the UFC back in 1993 and thinking that this nation is in deep trouble if this barbarianism is ever accepted by the masses.
Seriously
Why is Sean Green pitching AGAIN tonight? It was borderline miraculous that he wasn’t touched up last night.
Its almost like Grover is itching to get fired
Well shit. Here we go.
oh yes, we’ve been here before…
could you stop putting men on base in front of Vlad? huh?
Where is Brandon Morrow?
Can’t them M’s just adopt a “walk vlad” strategy? I don’t care if the bases are loaded even.
Can we give him the home run and save us the embarrassment?
Jebus, not again. I can’t believe for the second time in a row we put two men on in front of Vlad.
Honestly, why the hell is Green pitching in a one run game?
Again…why is Green in?
Can anyone fathom a guess?
Yea. I seem to remember Millwood tossing a no hitter for the Phillies. Not a bad return for someone who was a back up. That deal was more about money than performance.
For some reason this Ump’s strike call bothers me.
Where has the other Sean been? Has Grover been asking for “Sean Orange” or “Sean Burnt Umber” and the bullpen coach just keeps sending in Green?
Well…
That will certainly put a dent into his .593 average and 1.787 OPS vs our sorry pitching this year
Honestly, do you think Grover even knows Sean Green and Sean White are two different people?
OK, pretend you suck now, Kotchman, please.
I hope Sherill is ready to face Kotchman.
Honestly, do you think Grover even knows where he is or that he is a manager? He obviously doesn’t know his pants from 1985 don’t fit anymore.
That train commercial is awful!
293
He does manage much more effectively when he’s taking his usual in-game nap
I think I’ll paint a little tree by Sean Green, to keep him company. And then maybe some pretty clouds in the sky, just a few wiffs.
They should have a Banner Banke commercial involving a train wreck
Grover didn’t bring in Morrow because we’re not ahead, it’s a simple as that… of course he walked right into the Quinlan switch-a-roo.
High drama…
Yuni screws us again.
Banner BANK that is
Again…where is Brandon Morrow tonight and why would you EVER put anyone named Sean in instead of him?
very very nice play by yuni. saved a run.
Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports has his annual Major League Baseball All-Overpaid and All-Underpaid teams out today. The M’s have a player on each team. Guess who.
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=jp-contracts052907&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
Nice catch, not much you can do about that.
Sorry JI, I didn’t see your answer in time. Granted NOW he brings in Morrow.
Stupid effin’ idiot Grover is
Uh, Yuni made that tough catch. Better an out than no outs and a run scores anyway. Hmm?
So now we get Morrow in the game. Brilliant.
#303 — Sexson and Johjima?
oh NOW the prick has the nerve to bring him in! that pisses me off. why not go get him when scioscia gets quinlan off the bench?
Hargrove would have an all-Sean time if he could. Quick, someone get Sean Burroughs!
Des71: Don’t EVEN get me started on “proper” english. “Shit” comes from the Old English ‘scittan,’ to have diarrhea. Old English was spoken in the 6th century. Word’s got a hell of a lot more English history than most.
Grr.
Those overpaid/underpaid lists are always retarded because the underpaid guys they list are almost always guys who are still pre-free-agency and under team control.
#303/308: Ryan Franklin = underpaid?!
Lauren told me she has a secret cruch on Grover when he wears the goatee
Take a look at the article by Passan, it’s worth your time.
Uh…”crush” that is
(Bad joke anyway)
Even if his ugly looks didn’t repel someone, his horrific managing certainly would
314… how about Rizzs with his goatee and toupee?
317
LOL…I’m sure that goes without saying
317. That comment produced an image in my mind and a smile on my face. Thank you Joe.
so, what are the odds they manage to yet again crawl back from the dead against the Angels bullpen?
occasionally, like Lou, who didn’t call entire games from the dugout, just pitches in some situations.
go to the M’s site
Yuni/Lopez have no shot vs Shields, do they…sigh
I think Johjima could legitimately be on the underpaid team.. Mike Redmond? He’s a singles hitting back up catcher making three times the league minimum. In baseball economics he’s being adequately compensated. I fail to see what half those guys on the under list have done to deserve to be on it. Think these things through before you send them to your editors, Jesus.
Jesus would’ve never put in Sean Green in a one run game…believe me
Ichiro didn’t look to much better.
I think that answers my question, thank you.
319… ’twas my pleasure.
Tonight’s game is one that the Mariners could have and should have won. However, it is apparent that they are just not as good as the Angels. The game was over as soon as Felix gave the lead back after the M’s went ahead 5-4. The 2-7 record that they will have against LA after tonight is probably a fitting comparison between the two teams.
327- Pretty much, it’s throughly depressing.
327. Sad but true.
327
Good point. You can’t expect to finish ahead of a good team that’s currently leading your division, if you are incapable of beating them in a series all year.
But HEY! We have two Seans that they don’t!!
Get those rally caps warmed up! We still got some life in the top of the 9th.
I’ve been a baseball fan for 20 years and I don’t think I’ve ever seen the fake-to-third-spin-to-first move work.
Lets steal that damn monkey, shave it, cover it in USSM bumper stickers and make it our damn jumping rally monkey!
332 – didnt feirabend have one work yesterday?
anyone watching the halo broadcast know if krod is warming yet? if not it is shields in the 9th…
That doesn’t mean he saw it
332- It worked for some kid in little league back in 1972, so naturally all the Mariners pitchers are taught to use it.
Maybe the Weavers have a third brother and the Angels will put HIM in for the ninth
ryan got the trail runner with runners at first and second
LHP are already facing first base…
335- They haven’t showed him warming up yet. But they make it sound like he is coming in.
can jason davis legally change his name to sean in the next 90 seconds?
The plus side of Vlad coming up is that after his AB, I can change the channel because this game will be OVER.
OMG
Joe you’re wrong.
I hear there is this guy named “Sean” Franklin who is an innings-eater.
The kid’s got stones.
wow look at brandon challenge him. thats impressive… more impressive than anything i saw felix throw. he needs to be in the rotation NOW.
Take that Vladdy!
I still like our Vladina better
B-Money $!$!$
i mean TODAY
Vlad looked silly there, he might have to change the inscription on his wallet.
Praise the Lord, and pass the Pepto-Bismol!
349
Yeah, that was referring to a poster from a completely different place. Ooops.
Too bad Morrow wasn’t good enough to come in BEFORE the mess Green left us
353 – its the one that says “slightly-intimidating motherfucker” now…
Morrow 1 Vlad 0 using a small sample size, sorry.
That felt good inside watching him strike out.
i’m calling for pinch-hit richie funk
Montague, the home plate umpire is setting a new record for pitches called strikes NOT in that K zone that they show on FSN.
WHERES THE IGNITOR?
356,
That’s because I think that’s his first strike out this year against mariner pitching.
According to the Angel announcers Vidro is no longer just a professional hitter, he is also polished. Thanks guys, thanks.
WTF HARGROVE???
362
A question that die hard M’s fans will ask at least 10 times a game
Somebody wake his ass up! Go wake him up with a gritty smack to the face Willie!
yea its like i should just be used to it by now…
youre kidding me ral.
not worthy of one u.
I HEART Mike Hargrove, he’s such a good Manager. I truly agree with having Vidro running the bases cause he’s so fast.
Uh, someone tell Raul that if it bounces OVER the plate, ya may not want to swing. Go ahead and take the walk…sigh
GUILLEN! This is your shining moment! Use the anger!
Naturally our expert announcers are lauding Raul for “taking a shot”
Just take the dang walk!!
i can already see what is going to happen, the M’s lose by 1 again
Apparently we will swing at the breaking ball even if its behind the hitter
Don’t you see the confidence in Guillen’s eyes.
Guillen’s anger + $3.50 = Latte at Starbucks
OH AND WHY FUCKING PINCH HIT RICHIE EITHER! THIS IS REGODDAMNDICULOUS!!!
Broussard’s new name should be Bruiser, cause man it hurts to see him up there right now.
It seems clear to me that this is the second time wev’e faced Rodriquez when he can’t find the strike zone. The last time was last series I think… and we chased the pitches last time.
Hey, asshats, he doesn’t throw that pitch for even close to a strike, leave it be.
How much better would this team be with just a smidge better plate discipline. Seriously, I am upset for the rest of the week now.
Why would K-Rod even think about throwing anything but the breaking ball eight feet from the plate?
i wish fucking k rod would roll it up there so BB can swing and miss
Did anybody notice that Randy Johnson and Jamie Moyer combined to set a record for the matchup of the oldest lefties in history tonight?
I don’t think Rodriguez threw a single strike that entire inning.
Most teams would actually make K-Rod throw that pitch for a strike at least ONCE in the inning.
But not us!! HACK HACK HACK (does that actually count as a “philosophy?”)
Wow, only against the Mariners can you throw 3 pitches 59 feet and get 3 K’s.
We suck.
Good road trip Blowers? You lost 2 out of 3 to the Angels who have owned you this season. The M’s are at best a .500 team and I see the A’s passing us for second in the AL West.
Well it was fun while it last Ichiro, have a good time next season somewhere else!
387
Rememeber, Blowers is the guy who praised Ibanez for “taking a shot” when he swung at that garbage full count pitch that changed the inning entirely.
#388:
Don’t remember ’95, do you?
I love it, the way things are going, next year we won’t have Ichiro, probably over pay for bums, trade all our prospects away for expensive discarded bums from bum teams, still have a payroll over $100 million and still suck. At least we have such marketable names like Jose “F*CKING” Vidro and Miguel Bitchtista to keep fans optimistic about the team, YES I CAN’T WAIT TO BUY MY 2008 SEASON TICKETS. AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! I’m out of brew there goes my post-Hargrove/Bavasi-M’s-sucked this game sleeping-aide.
I remember 95 when we had this guy who wasn’t very fast, so he took a lot of pitches. That was fun.
I remember getting 1 win against the A’s last year, I don’t think we get more then 4-5 against the Angels this year. Tough to chase a team that you lose to every time.
390
Only two things wrong with that scenario.
We’re not of the caliber of the ’95 M’s and these Angels likely won’t surrender like their ’95 team did for that last fateful month.
But I’d love to be wrong about that.
Really unfortunate… but tonight was the final straw for me.
I’m typically the most optimistic, “silver lining” type of fan who can under even the worst of circumstances convince myself (and oftentimes others) that even with a rotation of HoRam and Weaver, and with Bloomquist playing regularly…. “WE HAVE A CHANCE!” But clearly… so starkly clearly….this team is the epitomy of a .500 ballclub. Yes they beat up on the bad teams (which is more than we can say of the ’05 or ’06 M’s) and yes there are times when they show resiliance and look like they’re about to put a postive streak together… but at the end of the day… there are too many times like what we’ve seen the last 36 hours. A promising first win in a HUGE series, followed by two losses in games we had multiple opportunities to win.
This team was not built with any kind of plan or focus. It’s a team of “fingers in the dike” type of reactionary moves. Honestly? (It pains me to type this) I now hope for a 12 game losing streak. The kind of slide that will create panic and force ownership (if they’re capable) to scrap the current group and rebuild around some sort of youthful vision, with two new leaders in place.
The only justification for putting together a roster built around questionable, overpaid, limited veterans is if you think you have a shot at ONE LAST run. So completely clearly, we are not. Ironically.. PAINFULLY ironically, we are reliving 2002 all over again. A team built around age, overpaid for past performances on the hope and prayer that every guy on the roster can play up to the level of his best year ever, is showing that age, and blaring their limitations to the masses.
It’s time to start over.
It’s time to change the guard.
It’s time to give up on 2007.
It’s a sad… sad day.
What FSN and Mike Hargrove would say: The M’s go 6-4 on the roadtrip, including 5-1 against the Devil Rays and Royals and now are 2nd in the AL in batting average.
What the realistic fan would say: The M’s are now 2-7 against the team they probably need to beat to win this division.
I swear, being a fan of this team has just turned into being something so painful it’s not even funny. They take 1 step forward and then 2 steps backward.
387- you gotta state the whole truth, the M’s are the most expensive at-best .500 team out there.
#395: I wouldn’t go that far YET. . .
Gary Matthews…i hate you…
With all that said, I still hope they win 79 games. Got a little wager with Vegas that says they can do it!
Vlad, I just wanted you to know, I always hated you the most.
I bet if Hargrove had Vlad, he would work he’s magic to make him Suck.
his not “he’s”
I wonder if we traded Hargrove’s son to the Nationals for $1.00, he would get disgruntled enough to quit?
Seattle Mariners = 2007 Tease
Hey, we can hope for a Tiger collapse, right?
Agree 100% #395. This team ain’t going anywhere. And the longer we hang around the .500 mark, the longer it’ll stay that way. I’m hoping for a painful skid followed by some trades, DFA’s, and firings.
its still only may guys.
397: There’s a team in New York you should check out. They aren’t doing so hot this year.
And the tears of their faithful are like sweet wine to me.
So, how does Feiereband’s start look now? Just curious.
