Rainiers Game Thread

Since the M’s are off today, you have a great chance to listen to Mike Curto as the Rainiers play in the bandbox of Salt Lake. Ryan Feierabend makes his second start since getting optioned back to Tacoma, and I’ve heard that there might be a few good hitters in the line-up for the M’s Triple-A squad.

Has anyone looked at Baseball America lately? They picked a minor league all-star teams made up of the best prospects at every position in any level. Only three Triple A players were on the team and the Mariners had all of them. Clement at catcher, Jones in center, and Balentien as the DH. They also re-ranked the top prospects overall. They moved Jones from 28th to 10th, Clement from 62nd to 21st, Balentien (who wasn’t even in the top 100) is now 26th, and Triunfel (who also wasn’t in the top 100) is listed in the up and comers. Sounds pretty good for the Ms, although a pitching prospect would probaby be worth having.

So is Clement hitting pitchers with major league stuff then?

Jones may be upset at not having been called up yet. If so, he’s taking his frustrations out on AAA pitchers: RBI single to right in the top of the 1st.

With each day it gets more and more ridiculous. Call up Tacman Jones.

It would be great if Mike Curto got a “September look” at the big league level too. I’ve grown to really like his style and wish the Mariners treated their farm club announcers the way they treat their players.. As potential call ups.

Is it too late to get on the Mariners bandwagon? I like where this team is headed.

  7. Churchill on July 19th, 2007 6:37 pm

Haha, Mr.Egaas, that’s good thinking on that nickname.

And this is Feierabend’s second start since being sent down. he went eight innings versus Fresno this past Saturday.

Even sounding like Pacman Jones is such a bad association for this Adam Jones! Can’t you do better?

  9. gag harbor on July 19th, 2007 6:41 pm

Hey Churchill, do you agree that Clement worked out all his batting issues and is essentially on track at this point?

  10. gag harbor on July 19th, 2007 6:46 pm

who, of interest is left unsigned from the draft besides Aumont??

  11. Jar on July 19th, 2007 6:49 pm

    #4, Tacman Jones?

    Shut your dirty mouth!

  12. chief on July 19th, 2007 7:04 pm

    # 2 Not only Clement but also AJ, Balantien and all of the Tacoma team?

I vaguely remember reading recently that much of the hot prospects are in AA not AAA. Anyone else recall this article?

Are any Rainier’s games ever televised?

  14. gag harbor on July 19th, 2007 7:49 pm

    Reed
    Jones
    Balentien
    Clement
    Johnson

That’s a tougher line up than a handful of MLB clubs IMO,.

Dave, what are the chances of AAAJones turning into a base stealer in the future? Is it a speed or instincts problem with him?

  16. msb on July 19th, 2007 9:33 pm

I thought we voted down any name association with either Pacman or Tacman.

or was that just wishful thinking on my part?

Replace Vidro and Ibanez with Jones and Balentien and the M’s offense improves. It’s seemingly a no-brainer from a talent standpoint, but it could affect chemistry, as Turbo and Raul are veteran leaders.

  18. dnc on July 19th, 2007 10:24 pm

16 – my part as well.

Steer clear of “acman” nicknames, please.

  19. JMHawkins on July 19th, 2007 11:49 pm

I thought we voted down any name association with either Pacman or Tacman.

This is like the old Randy Winn commercial come back as tragedy.

    “How about Pacman?”

    “No.”

    “Tacman?”

    “No.”

    “Ackman? Wackman? Zackman?”

    “No, no, and huh?

    “Don’t forget Shiggy!”

    “You don’t like Tacman?”

    “No.”

    “Tacman-the-Pooh?”

“Mariners, er, Rainiers Baseball. Get all of it.”

He doesn’t need a nickname. But if you have to call him something, well, we have a King, how about a Duke. At least that has a baseball pedigree…

  20. joealb on July 19th, 2007 11:59 pm

I’m liking the pedigree angle. We do have a King and even a princess (Willie). How about “Prince Adam”?

  21. Typical Idiot Fan on July 20th, 2007 1:21 am

    Adam LaMarque Jones. Hmm.

    Adam LeMarque’d For Death Jones?
    Adam LaMarquis De Sade Jones?
Adam What’s With That Crude LaMarque? Jones?

    Am I trying too hard?

  22. Typical Idiot Fan on July 20th, 2007 1:21 am

    Re 20,

    “Prince” Adam? He-Man Jones? Egads.

  23. Dayve on July 20th, 2007 5:36 am

    go to bed

  24. Kunkoh on July 20th, 2007 8:10 am

I thought Wee Willie was the Jester?
    Now I’m all confused.

  25. Mr. Egaas on July 20th, 2007 10:32 am

Guardado was the Jester, but Putz replaced him when he stoleth the power of the split finger.

  26. Gomez on July 20th, 2007 2:52 pm

Apparently, FSN will televise the Rainiers game on Saturday.

  27. 97lineup on July 20th, 2007 9:58 pm

i know Bavasi wants to get equal talent, but we have too many prospects to not trade someone for an upgrade somewhere. Outside of Jones and Clement, everyone should be available in my eyes. Anybody disagree?

  28. bongo on July 21st, 2007 12:51 am

    Adam “The Emperor” Jones?

  29. naviomelo on July 23rd, 2007 3:04 am

27 – I hope we don’t give Balentien away for an overpriced DH/1B.
