This should be a good time. Matsuzaka v Washburn? Possibly the best team in baseball against a hot M’s team struggling to put themselves into contention — sign me up.

Daisuke v Jarrod!
Daisuke: 144 IP, 133 H, 15 HR, 50 BB, 142 K
Jarrod: 129.1 IP, 137 H, 10 HR, 42 BB, 69 K

And one of them pitches in Fenway, the other in Safeco.

Guillen looks like Sexson with that last swing. Wasn’t even close.

  2. krb on August 4th, 2007 10:18 pm

There ya go Guillen, just dont swing.

  3. DizzleChizzle on August 4th, 2007 10:19 pm

If Guillen somehow manages to walk you’d have to PH Jones for Ibanez, right?

  4. chbrody on August 4th, 2007 10:20 pm

    atta boy!!!!

  5. rsrobinson on August 4th, 2007 10:21 pm

That’s the best we could have hoped for.

  6. thefin190 on August 4th, 2007 10:21 pm

    Nope, Jones PR for Gullien

  7. Notor on August 4th, 2007 10:21 pm

    ADAM JONES?!?!?!

    AFTER THE AT BAT?!?!?

  8. JJD on August 4th, 2007 10:21 pm

Glad to see AJ, but he should be hitting, not running.

  9. David* on August 4th, 2007 10:21 pm

Raul……..I wish I had hope for this encounter.

  10. cgmonk on August 4th, 2007 10:21 pm

    @353

Nope, he will run for Guillen.

  11. krb on August 4th, 2007 10:21 pm

No, you use him in Guillens place if your Mac.

  12. BillPhi2 on August 4th, 2007 10:21 pm

Apparently you let AJ run. Why take the bat out of the hands of a veteran leader? /snark

  13. GTcolin on August 4th, 2007 10:21 pm

Well, Jones is in the game, just not where he needs to be

  14. JeffS on August 4th, 2007 10:21 pm

Well, AJ is in… now let’s go Raul!!!!

  15. DizzleChizzle on August 4th, 2007 10:22 pm

    OMG Ibanez

  16. thefin190 on August 4th, 2007 10:22 pm

OK Raul, prove that you still deserve a starting job.

  17. Notor on August 4th, 2007 10:22 pm

Way to go AJ…but you should be batting right now.

  18. fishiam on August 4th, 2007 10:22 pm

Why the FUCK is AJ running for Guillen instead of PHing for hopeless Ibanez?

  19. Teej on August 4th, 2007 10:23 pm

    Man. He fast.

  20. jeffinfremont on August 4th, 2007 10:25 pm

    Wow, that was anticlimactic.

  21. The Ancient Mariner on August 4th, 2007 10:25 pm

Because there’s no way a manager is going to use a rookie as a PH in this spot against one of the best closers in the league.

  22. krb on August 4th, 2007 10:25 pm

    Damn. Nice fight though..

  23. (Expletive) Dave Samson on August 4th, 2007 10:25 pm

And… defeat clinched from the jaws of victory.

  24. JeffS on August 4th, 2007 10:26 pm

Aw man… at least we made them work for the win and we didn’t go down easy. Better luck tomorrow.

  25. (Expletive) Dave Samson on August 4th, 2007 10:27 pm

    “DEREK KINZLER!!!!!”

    ARE YOU SURE????

  26. DizzleChizzle on August 4th, 2007 10:32 pm

Beltre should have really tried to work the count in his favor instead of swinging on the first pitch The guy just walked 2 batters in a row.

  27. JMB on August 4th, 2007 10:32 pm

    Seriously? First pitch swinging? Ugh.

  28. Ace on August 4th, 2007 10:38 pm

    372:
Lots of reasons, 1) wouldn’t be fair to put Jones up against Paplebon a day after he was called up, 2) righty-lefty matchup, 3) why rub Jones in face of the veterans, he’s going to be taking enough of their AB’s as it is.

  29. Notor on August 4th, 2007 10:50 pm

Who the hell cares what the veterans think? If they can’t perform they shouldn’t be playing, period.

  30. DizzleChizzle on August 4th, 2007 10:56 pm

322 I just read your comment. Thanks for the laugh.

  31. DizzleChizzle on August 4th, 2007 11:04 pm

Guillen in this series so far, 0 for 8, 6 K’s, 0 RBI’s, 2 GIDP, 1 error. I guess Adam Jones did disrupt the team chemistry afterall!

  32. shortbus on August 4th, 2007 11:12 pm

That was a much MUCH better game than I feared it would be. The top of the order murdered us today. Nobody could predict an 0-4 day by Ichiro, but is there any damn reason why Beltre and Broussard are betting 5,6 and Ibanez and Guillen are hitting 3,4? Switch those two pairs around just based on their performance…we win the game.

Or Ichiro could have gotten just one hit!!

  33. lailaihei on August 4th, 2007 11:35 pm

We best not have to wait until Burres to see Felix pitch again.

  34. Notor on August 5th, 2007 12:02 am

Jones is going to start tomorrow in CF. Ichiro will DH. Ibanez will unfortunately be playing left field where undoubtedly Boston will pummel him as they did tonight and as every team has done every night for the entire season.

McLaren, you’ve been here a month, you have earned the credibility with the players, so fix it. Jones to left, Ibanez/Vidro platooned at DH. DO IT!

  35. shortbus on August 5th, 2007 8:45 am

I don’t get the notion of platooning Ibanez and Vidro at DH. Their OPS is almost identical vs. RHP. Vidro has no platoon split, so either fire him or let him play every day.

Why not platoon Ibanez and Guillen in RF? Both of these players show very significant platoon splits and Ibanez’ defense wouldn’t present a massive downgrade from Guillen’s in RF.

Or shove both of ’em out the door and call up Balantien!
