    Hitters love Horacio Ramirez!

John McLaren is a great bench coach!

Did you get a chance to see that Ibanez funk blast yesterday? Holy cow!!!!

  5. DMZ on August 16th, 2007 9:23 am

    I feel more positive already!

  6. jeffinfremont on August 16th, 2007 9:25 am

Every other team is trying just as hard as the M’s to not make the playoffs!

It’s like some bizarre league-wide version of Major League.

    Jobu would approve.

    I like rally fries!

  8. Enrique on August 16th, 2007 9:27 am

I was at the Felix/Santana game the other day, and watching Richie win the game in such dramatic fashion has made my week.

Also, we have Felix, whereas other teams do not!

  9. MikeMLT on August 16th, 2007 9:28 am

For a fat guy Vidro doesn’t sweat much.

Blue and White is a great color combination!

  11. Evan on August 16th, 2007 9:29 am

Dave Sims has an amusingly wide head! It’s like he has the extra width missing from Bavasi’s amusingly narrow head!

  12. ceepdublu on August 16th, 2007 9:29 am

The Mariners aren’t going to lose today!

    It’s a beautiful day for baseball…

I haven’t Photoshopped DMZ’s head onto Willie Bloomquist’s body this week!

  14. BillPhi2 on August 16th, 2007 9:32 am

The grass at Safeco is so green! You can just smell baseball in the air! Oh, and 1995 RULED!!

    Yuniesky Betancourt!!

  17. Evan on August 16th, 2007 9:34 am

I haven’t Photoshopped DMZ’s head onto Willie Bloomquist’s body this week!

Why not? That would be awesome!

And Safeco has a way better beer selection than other ballparks!

  18. pygmalion on August 16th, 2007 9:36 am

    I own an Ichiro! jersey!

  19. pygmalion on August 16th, 2007 9:36 am

I was at the game yesterday and it was a lot of fun through 7 innings!

  24. pumpkinhead on August 16th, 2007 9:42 am

  27. The Ancient Mariner on August 16th, 2007 9:44 am

The M’s signed Buckborough! Frank Mattox won’t be screwing up any more of our drafts!

And robbbbb won’t be getting any sleep for the next year! (Not that that’s really a positive thing, but at least it’s his turn and not mine. :) )

  31. Dreams of October on August 16th, 2007 9:46 am

Here’s reason for optimism. Before the upcoming 3 game series against the Angels, there won’t be a single day where the Mariners face as good a team as the Angels face that day.

  32. Bernoulli on August 16th, 2007 9:46 am

With each passing year my Jason Kendall Pirates jersey becomes increasingly humorous!

Also: Carl Everett is still out of major league baseball!

  33. Jeff Nye on August 16th, 2007 9:47 am

We are the undisputed league leaders in grit!

  34. msb on August 16th, 2007 9:47 am

  36. LA M's Fan on August 16th, 2007 9:53 am

There now exists more accurate and powerful ways than ever before to objectively evaluate players and determine their relative worth!

Seriously though, it is pretty amazing when you consider the kinds of tools the leaders of the field (professionally and non-professionally) were using even five, ten and twenty years ago.

  37. Evan on August 16th, 2007 9:53 am

Maybe some life left in Sexon’s bat!!!

  41. tuttle07 on August 16th, 2007 9:56 am

No matter what happens this season, it sure as hell beats the last three years. Run differential and regressions to the collective mean aside, it’s finally fun to be looking forward to the next few seasons with this squad, which is more than we could have said last year….

  42. lailaihei on August 16th, 2007 9:57 am

I got tickets to the Sept 5th Yankees game! It will be only the third different major league park I’ve been to!

  43. Slippery Elmer on August 16th, 2007 9:58 am

The Mariners’ starting pitching is so good their top draft pick languishes in the bullpen instead of cracking the rotation!

  44. msb on August 16th, 2007 9:59 am

Geoff Baker’s blog is the Real Deal!!! They said so on the radio!!! Don’t be fooled by imitations!!!

  46. Spanky on August 16th, 2007 10:00 am

  48. EurekaJ on August 16th, 2007 10:02 am

My positive thoughts for today are:

There are only 3 days left until the next Happy Felix Day

The M’s don’t have to face Santana in the Metrodome next week

Positive Thinking Prediction: The M’s will battle for the AL West lead in their next home series with the Angels (Aug 27-29)….the Angels play the 12 games preceding the series against Boston, NY and Toronto and during the same stretch the M’s play 10 against Chicago, Minnesota and Texas

The M’s had so many good right-handed relievers and finally found the LOOGY they needed, so they could send Lowe back to the minors.

I took my 5 y/o daugter to the game yesterday and heckled the Twins fan in front of me who took looooong solo standing ovations every time the Twins did anything positive, obstructing most of the rest of the section’s view. So I used negativity vs. negativity, which = positivity! Yay!

  75. Chris Miller on August 16th, 2007 10:28 am

    All in one

    Ichiro

  78. MarinerDan on August 16th, 2007 10:29 am

Top 10 reasons the Mariners will make the playoffs:

10: The Angels are recalling Ervin Santana.

9: Doug Mientkiewicz will return from the DL at some point and Joe Torre will insist on playing him.

8: John McLaren will have an epiphany and realize that, no, Raul Ibanez isn’t required by law to hit in the four hole.

7: Jose Guillen will finally snap and “disappear” John McLaren.

6: Grover will get a second wind and return to being the M’s manager. (Is McLaren really so bad that I miss Grover? Sadly, yes he is.)

5: Phillippe Aumont dominates in rookie ball and Bill Bavasi, following his aggressive promotion game plan, promotes him to take HoRam’s spot in the rotation.

4: Richie Sexson is revealed as “Unfrozen Caveman Baseball Player” and proceeds to mash ball.

3: Adrian Beltre stops his self-appeals to first base umpire and, out of gratitude, the umps go easy on him.

2: Mariner Mooose continues his reign of terror on opposing players.

1: Adam Jones is allowed to see regular playing time!

Raul’s power shortage seems to have been more due to injury than aging! There’s a reasonable chance his productivity will return for the stretch run, and perhaps for next year as well.

Complaining about the team’s tenuous hold on a playoff spot is far better than complaning about their tenuous hold on a 70 win season.

Adrian Beltre gives us an idea what it must’ve been like for Oriole fans to watch Brooks Robinson play.

Despite longer lines at the bathroom, Safeco is far more fun when there are 38,000 fans yelling, booing, gasping and cheering on a pleasant August evening than when there are 16,000 dispirited souls shivering in misery of several kinds on a dreary April night.

he got put on waivers (with most of the team, as is the custom); I don’t believe we have heard just who claimed him.

“At any point during the season, a player can be placed on procedural waivers. If he is not claimed by another team during the next three business days, he can be traded, released or sent to the minor leagues during a waiver period. Three waiver periods are in effect during the season: one through the 30th day of the season; another through July 31; and the third beginning Aug. 1. During the period beginning Aug. 1, waivers are designated as either trade or option waivers, meaning the waiving team indicates whether it is considering trading the player or sending him to the minor leagues.”

I kinda wish he were. At least he’s effective and he could help Bavasi “Swift Boat” some unassuming GMs.

I received a playoff ticket order form from the Mariners this week!

When I send my money in, if they don’t make the playoffs, I will be entitled to get my money back!

Or, I could apply the money to next year’s season tickets, which will probably make sense, because by the time I would receive the refund, I will have the opportunity to purchase new season tickets for 2008!

Also, I am blessed with good seats because I have been a season ticket holder since the early 90s…near diamond club, but without diamond club prices. And I have wonderful memories of the playoff games in 1995 that were worth every penny I paid, and much much more.

  387. _David_ on August 16th, 2007 6:18 pm

Positive…hmm…Howabout this? Hanley Ramirez is having a better season as a 23 year old shortstop than A-Rod did, and this could get into A-Rod’s head and cause him to struggle and the Yankees to not quite catch us for the wildcard!

Joser escapes death by mauling due to Lauren’s sense of humor!

The Angels are playing in Toronto, so there’s always a chance the Jays will get a come from behind, walk-off home run victory!

    Life is great!

I hate the Yankees, and if the Mariners play well, the yankees+Arod (and possibly Bravasi) will be unhappy!

The Mariners are the only team with a star that has an! on the end of his name!

For me, I think the highlights of the year were Felix one hitting Boston, JJ making the all star team, and the Moose nearly killing Coco Crisp. Nothing against Coco, but I’d love to see the Moose get thrown in jail. Why do the Mariners have a moose? Shouldn’t we have a pirate or something?

  411. JMHawkins on August 16th, 2007 8:49 pm

Why do the Mariners have a moose? Shouldn’t we have a pirate or something?

When I lived in San Diego, we had a chicken. So, the positive thought is:

[Boris Badenov] Moose is better than Chicken! [/Boris Badenov]

On the other hand, hearing that the visiting Center Fielder was run down by a giant chicken on a quadrunner would be pretty damn funny.
