Hip inflammation’s the early word. Felix moves up in the schedule. No prediction on whether Bedard will be available for the Tampa series.

Good news: Felix day a day early!

    Bad news: Everything else.

    Good grief.

Where are you getting this Bedard info, can’t find it anywhere.

  4. jlc on April 5th, 2008 8:01 pm

Let’s see. We’re built around 2 star pitchers, a star closer, an innings eater, and Sexson as the Comeback Player of the year, which will lead to us beating a whole bunch of lesser teams, leaving us way ahead of the Angels by the end of April. So now we’ve got Felix and Silva left of the grand plan, and three weeks left to catch the Angels. Which will be easy because obviously we’ll sweep them next week, because Bavasi and team really, really want it to happen.

mariners.com shows King Felix’s picture for tomorrow’s game.

The early word is that he will be going on Tuesday. McLaren’s body language was worrisome while talking about it, though. He said it isn’t major and they are just being cautious, but yikes. Not good news.

  7. Carson on April 5th, 2008 8:04 pm

doededoe – The post game show on FSN broke the news, and had a clip with McLaren. I hadn’t changed the channel to the UNC/Kansas game yet.

  8. Mere Tantalisers on April 5th, 2008 8:05 pm

That’s hilarious. Is it degenerative hip inflammation?

  9. Tom on April 5th, 2008 8:06 pm

    Thanks Bill.

  10. doededoe on April 5th, 2008 8:08 pm

Damn the final 4. I was so disgusted with the game(defense, pitching, and managing) I changed the channel immediately. Thanks Carson.

Wow. The only consolation I had to the Bedard trade (watching him pitch) has now been yanked from me. FUBB. I want Adam Jones and Sherrill back . . .

  12. 300ZXNA on April 5th, 2008 8:24 pm

8- don’t even joke about that . . . I know that this isn’t looking like it will be a problem long term, but if Bavasi and his merry band of heretics traded away Jones et al for a pitcher who breaks down right out of the box . . .

  13. timc on April 5th, 2008 8:27 pm

    ONE-TWO PUNCH DAMMIT!

13- yeah, one for each of my testicles . . .

I think that KOMO broke the story, but it probably doesn’t matter. Bedard is scheduled to go Tuesday. If he just had a slight ache and needed a day or two of rest, it is probably not worrisome. If Baek ends up starting on Tuesday, the M’s are in trouble.

  17. beckya57 on April 5th, 2008 8:37 pm

His injury hx was one of the many reasons I didn’t like the Bedard trade. I actually assumed he was hurt in spring training; that seemed like the most plausible explanation for his lousy spring.

And #16–The M’s are in trouble either way. So far, this team has lost by 1) walking lots of batters, 2) throwing the ball away, and 3) showing very little production from the middle of the order. In other words, this was a mediocre team last year, which is now a year older (and lost one of its few young players). It’s going to be a very long year….

In an alternate universe I’d like to think that there was a version of this team that last winter traded for Josh Hamilton and Nick Johnson while keeping AJ rather than burn the farm for Bedard . . .

    urgh.

thanks for so accurately summing up my whining of the last hour or so.

  20. jlc on April 5th, 2008 10:12 pm

18 – But in the alternate universe they all have satanic goatees. I spent my youth watching Star Trek.

  21. msb on April 5th, 2008 10:22 pm

oh wait, let’s not forget also that with their injuries the Angels will struggle the first month or so of the year, and since Oakland has just given up this year, they’ll finish at the bottom of the division.

does that sum it all up?

  22. jlc on April 5th, 2008 10:28 pm

And Texas doesn’t have any pitching, so we can take them easy.

  23. msb on April 6th, 2008 12:01 am

    wearing evil goatees.

  24. John D. on April 6th, 2008 12:37 am

Is it possible–if Bedard has a previous injury–that we can get the trade rescinded?
[I think such a thing has happened.]
I also think that Bud and his pals would love to get Angelos

  25. Sentinel on April 6th, 2008 12:43 am

Can we ask for a redo? On the Bedard trade?

    For spring training?

    For the season?

    No? I quit then.

Looking forward to early Felix Day.

Is it possible–if Bedard has a previous injury–that we can get the trade rescinded?

Nope. He passes the physical, we accept the trade, and he’s ours.

The only chance is for the trade to be shot down by the doctors before it’s final. Once both sides accept, it’s a done deal.

  27. scott19 on April 6th, 2008 1:48 am

Had a sense Bedard was gonna wind up on the DL way back when we were taking those polls on whether we should trade AJ to get him. Starting to think I should go live with that 1-900 psychic line.

  28. Milendriel on April 6th, 2008 4:21 am

Well, happy Felix Day, at least.

  29. LMF on April 6th, 2008 8:45 am

Is this why we play the games?

  30. Go Felix on April 6th, 2008 9:38 am

I’m calling B.S. on this move. He’s not injured. Mclaren doesn’t want the extra press of Bedard pitching in Baltimore.

  31. DMZ on April 6th, 2008 9:41 am

You have got to be kidding.

  32. roto on April 6th, 2008 10:46 am

The move being BS isn’t any less likely than this being the first sign of the apocalypse, which the first couple dozen posts seem to agree on. It is awfully convenient that the start gets bumped to Tuesday and they don’t go back to Baltimore until next season.

  33. fermorules on April 6th, 2008 12:11 pm

No. 30 and 32, I’m kind of on the same wavelength….

Only I’m wondering if it was Bedard who didn’t want to pitch in Baltimore….

I pray Bedard doesn’t have the mental make-up of Mark Langston, whom Mariner fans recall would complain when he wasn’t taken out of games.

Langston, like Bedard, had world-class stuff, but he was all about himself and his stats. Lang-lo was never confused with an actual team player.

If Bedard is truly going to be the No. 1 guy, he’s going to want the ball every fifth day and compete like hell on the mound.

    I’m not saying Bedard isn’t hurt….

Yay for conspiracy theories and baseless armchair psychoanalysis!
