Game 14, Royals at Mariners

DMZ · April 14, 2008 at 6:58 pm · Filed Under Mariners

Ahh, the Royals. This’ll be easy, just like the Orioles. Wait, the Royals are 7-5? How? What?

Greinke v Washburn. The return of Jose Guillen to Safeco Field! A return to normal lineups for the Mariners! Who could ask for more?

142- You might want to check the calender before you sprain your ankle dismounting from the bandwagon, it might be hard to hobble back on to it.

Man, recent performance and small sample size can rear their ugly heads tomorrow… tonight, I’m loving R.A. Dickey

  3. joser on April 14th, 2008 9:32 pm

Hurrah for the man of the crowded jersey!

Apparently Saltalamacchia gets called “pits” because his name stretches from one to the other. RRS needs something like that. What’s a pit in australia? A billabong?

MLB Gameday box doesnt know what a Knuckleball is. Last at bat was slider, slider, curveball, changeup, slider

Just call Rowland-Smith “Hyphen” because he’s the first player in major league baseball history to have a hyphenated surname.

  6. joser on April 14th, 2008 9:36 pm

Well, apparently Dickey has given up on the ol’ knuckleball, and now relies on changeups, curveballs, and sliders. At least that’s what Gameday says.

That sound you hear is the computer scratching its circuits. They should just have a “WTF?” pitch.

Before the game, Bill Krueger was calling Jarrod “the new Washburn” because he was mixing in his offspeed stuff more.

    Through three innings:

    40 fastballs (67.8%)
    7 sliders (11.8%)
    8 curveballs (13.6%)
    4 changeups (6.8%)

    Yeah.

What’s it costing the Baseball Club of Seattle to rent the Mariners from Zach Greinke this season?

  9. jspektor on April 14th, 2008 9:39 pm

just talking on this forum makes me love USSMariner … fans here know what’s going on … that blog / forum on Seattle times is absolutely outrageous. long live USS Mariner and reality!

  10. HamNasty on April 14th, 2008 9:39 pm

Yay Dickey! This wasn’t the worse game ever. Greinke seems to have figured it out through the young season.

155: Time for another open letter.

  12. Carson on April 14th, 2008 9:41 pm

Well, the good news is we can still watch Nicole Zaloumis on mute.

    Carson

Well, the good news is we can still watch Nicole Zaloumis on mute.

Hilarious. I love the dark comedy of Seattle sports.

    Open letter to John McLaren:

    Dear Mr. McLaren:

    You suck.

    Your pal,

    PMC

  15. msb on April 14th, 2008 9:46 pm

hah. took that Greinke ERA up to .075.

    take that, bub.

  16. jspektor on April 14th, 2008 9:48 pm

I’ll sign that letter right now PMC

Add my name to that list. (Address it to Bavasi/Sexson as well)

Oh yeah, add Al Martin, Jeff Cirillo and Scott Spezio to the mix. lol.

  17. Mike G. on April 14th, 2008 9:48 pm

Well Kreuger is sticking to the “New Washburn” thing.

  18. jspektor on April 14th, 2008 9:49 pm

    Mike G –

I didnt see a new Washburn, I saw a lucky to face the Royals Washburn. Boy is he in trouble … although he fought threw it – i guess – to an extent.

  19. Rydogg2122 on April 14th, 2008 9:51 pm

149 – I know a bad team when I see one. Doesn’t matter what the team does when the GM makes bad trades/free agent signings and the manager makes constant bad decisions.

  20. Mike G. on April 14th, 2008 9:51 pm

I’m sure we can come up with a better letter than that. Like your bullpen management sucks? Or something, although the bullpen was pretty good tonight.

  21. jspektor on April 14th, 2008 9:52 pm

    Mike G

Sean Green really got lucky in that inning … came in and loaded the bases with 0 outs … by the way what the hell was Mac thinking not bunting with Yuni early in the game, down 3-0? Lou would have done that without even thinking.
Small things get the job done.

  22. Rydogg2122 on April 14th, 2008 9:53 pm

Gave up two more runs and the offense was crap as usual, wake up bud.

  23. msb on April 14th, 2008 9:56 pm

so, when do the “it’s Trey Hillman’s winning atmosphere” stories start?

  24. Mike G. on April 14th, 2008 9:57 pm

169- Actually Green got really unlucky. Those 2 hits he gave up were a fluke, that could happen to Felix.

170- RRS gave up a run on a sac fly and Corco should have been long out of the game. I’m wide awake despite watching the whole game.

  25. eddiethepjman on April 14th, 2008 9:57 pm

Who else is tired of Mclaren never just straight stealing Ichiro when Lopez is up? Hes never going to get 60 + sbs if we are all ways hit and running

  26. jspektor on April 14th, 2008 10:01 pm

I dont know, Mike it still irks me when Pena (hitting 1-30 i think coming in) gets that hit off green when hes trying to bunt and started 0-2 …

but fine ill give him the benefit of the doubt.

  27. msb on April 14th, 2008 10:04 pm

kinda entertaining to hear the guys on the postgame try to explain to a caller that it wasn’t that the Ms defense was ‘not trying’ — without actually saying things like ‘Raul was trying, he just can’t play LF’

  28. Paul L on April 14th, 2008 10:07 pm

@160: Mute’s really required though – have you ever heard her actually do sports? Worse than Lisa Gangel

  29. Mike G. on April 14th, 2008 10:13 pm

173- It’s fine to be irked by the results I sure didn’t enjoy them, but you can’t draw any real conclusions about Green from them. He got unlucky. The bullpen pitched really well today and it was really the only bright spot of today’s game.

  30. jspektor on April 14th, 2008 10:15 pm

Mike – Although I will prob disagree with you tonight Green’s performance tonight (yes, he has been one of our only bright spots this year, and his team picked him up tonight ), but it was great to see RRS and Dickey pitch well you are absolutely correct.

  31. msb on April 14th, 2008 10:16 pm

hey, at least Gangel played college ball.

sigh. time to turn the postgame off.

“Jose Lopez has been taking pitches for Ichiro, and Ichiro won’t steal. Why can’t the third base coach give Ichiro the steal sign, so that he has to go”

  32. Benne on April 15th, 2008 1:12 am

Sigh…our offense takes a crap yet again today. On the other hand, Zach Greinke is a great story, so I’ll give credit where credit is due. The Royals suddenly look like a legitimate baseball team so far.
