Game 33, Rangers at Mariners

DMZ · May 5, 2008 at 6:10 pm · Filed Under Mariners

7:10. Both teams 13-19. Huh. Who woulda thunk it?

Millwood (who, as Sims noted last night, it seems like we’ve seen pitch against the M’s waaayyy too many times) v Washburn. Lineups when I get ’em.

Update: Huh, interesting. Sexson at 5, and Betancourt moves up to 7 behind Clement with Balentien at 9. I wonder why they’re moving Betancourt up from 9?

What the f is Raul doing?

    Nice baserunning.

  3. HamNasty on May 5th, 2008 8:33 pm

    Great catch by Murphy.

The Texas Rangers and Kevin Millwood: the cure for what ails ya.

  5. zvazda on May 5th, 2008 8:41 pm

    defense?

  6. DMZ on May 5th, 2008 8:49 pm

Beltre’s so smooth sometimes, it’s great to watch him even when he doesn’t get the out.

  7. enazario on May 5th, 2008 8:51 pm

Jarod “I turn into a pumpkin in the seventh inning” Washburn.

  8. fishiam on May 5th, 2008 8:51 pm

Ruh-roh! Time to yank our 6 inning max number 5 starter before it gets REALLY ugly.

  9. PaulMolitorCocktail on May 5th, 2008 8:53 pm

    That’ll do, pig. That’ll do.

  10. AZ Ms Fan on May 5th, 2008 8:56 pm

hey look wash finally decided to show up

  11. msb on May 5th, 2008 9:04 pm

so, nothing can go easily, huh.

can’t just have a blow out, nope. Jarrod “The Stopper” Washburn has to leave with tightness in his calf.

  12. robbbbbb on May 5th, 2008 9:05 pm

Hey guys, that’s what good outfield defense looks like. That hurts to watch.

  13. enazario on May 5th, 2008 9:05 pm

Man Beltre could have three hits today.

  14. msb on May 5th, 2008 9:05 pm

remember when the Rangers played crap defense?

    sigh.

  15. BigB on May 5th, 2008 9:13 pm

My God, I just saw the highlights thus far on ESPN and there was an Ichiro look-alike in the crowd, and legitimately looked EXACTLY like him. It was uncanny. Anyone else catch that? (Live in NYC so can’t watch the game)

Also, nice “Explosion de Funk” on the scoreboard after Balentien’s blast, too.

  16. Snowman on May 5th, 2008 9:15 pm

They showed it for a really long time on FSN. The guy even had the Ichiro shades and facial hair.

  17. BigB on May 5th, 2008 9:20 pm

    Incredible.

  18. msb on May 5th, 2008 9:23 pm

he was featured on the local broadcast– someone who had obviously spent a long time working on the look.

speaking of Moyer, he’s had a nice night– going to get a win, and hit a single, and a run-scoring double

  19. Russ on May 5th, 2008 9:24 pm

Wow….The 2008 M’s suck so bad that they’ve pulled hundreds of posts from the intrawebs due to extreme suckiness. They are the black hole of MLB.

There are typically 200+ posts for a game thread.

  20. joser on May 5th, 2008 9:26 pm

Nothing’s happened since the 4th inning. Well, until JJ decided to make things stressful.

  21. AZ Ms Fan on May 5th, 2008 9:26 pm

whats going on with JJ he just doesnt seem him self lately. Do you guys think his ribs are still tender or is he afraid of gettint hurt again?

  22. praetor on May 5th, 2008 9:26 pm

    where’d you go, Putz?
    I miss you so

  23. thehiddentrack on May 5th, 2008 9:30 pm

He has no control and his velocity is down. That’s usually due to injuries or mechanical issues. He has looked terrible this season, I hope he’s not done.

  24. joser on May 5th, 2008 9:31 pm

His velocity is down. He doesn’t seem to trust his splitter. That combination makes JJ very so-so.

  25. HamNasty on May 5th, 2008 9:33 pm

It seemed like he threw his splitter a lot more compared to last year when he would toss unhittable fastballs all the time. That was more because he had no reason to toss the splitter. Very ugly JJ, but no runs so can’t complain all that much.

  26. AZ Ms Fan on May 5th, 2008 9:34 pm

Well i hope that he comes around, because with out him at his full potention i dont see any of the fear in the batters that used to be around last year. And that to me really bothers me.

  27. msb on May 5th, 2008 9:35 pm

he went on the DL and did nothing for 2 weeks. He had a brief tune-up, without going out on rehab, came off the DL, pitched an inning, then sat for 4 days, pitched 1 inning and sat for 5 days. They gave him extra bullpen work to compensate, enough to give him a sore spot on his finger that kept him from getting an inning last night.

  28. naviomelo on May 5th, 2008 9:36 pm

He’s had some good outings this year where he’s looked fairly unhittable, but the way he’s pitching now is very scary for this team. He hasn’t looked right since the first game after he came off the DL.

  29. griffin on May 5th, 2008 10:18 pm

haha, oh we’re so good, what a great game.

oh we played the rangers, i forgot…

  30. scott19 on May 5th, 2008 11:00 pm

oh we played the rangers, i forgot…

    Aye…’twas a clash o’ the titans!

    Re: ICHIRO (#s 65, 66, 67, & 68) –

He was featured on the local broadcast– someone who had obviously spent a long time working on the look.

W/R/T: A few years ago I saw a guy that looked like RANDY JOHNSON. He’d been working on it too. Then there are all those ELVIS impersonators.

  32. forte40 on May 6th, 2008 12:13 am

Was at the game, Putz was not himself. He resorted to offspeed pitches to get the first two outs. Against the last batter though he did hit 95 on the radar, he was only hitting 92 earlier in the outing. He needs more time I think.

  33. scott19 on May 6th, 2008 1:06 am

What’s really sad is that, on a night in early May, when they actually do make an effort to show up offensively and put together a nice win in the process, most of us have already grown so exasperated out of what we’ve seen out of this team thus far that we can’t even make to a hundred posts in a freakin’ game thread!

Gah, it’s gonna be a long and bloody season! >:(

  34. jzalman on May 6th, 2008 6:45 am

Yeah, what a short game thread. Hopefully it’s only because everyone was at the game…

Also, whould we worry that Josh Hamilton wasn’t playing, skewing the win? I think his 32 RBI in a month say yes.

Good to see us score more than 2 runs though.

    Come back Putz!

  35. jzalman on May 6th, 2008 6:47 am

Is “whould” a word? It said “free of spelling errors.” Huh.

  36. Slippery Elmer on May 6th, 2008 9:38 am

JohnD: “Then there are all those ELVIS impersonators.

    What’s this you say?

  37. joser on May 6th, 2008 5:21 pm

I think it was a short game thread because it was Cinco de Mayo. Lot of heavy partiers/drinkers in this crowd. And note the people who didn’t show up — Eponymous Coward, Colm, the various Alaskans, Lauren. I’m betting they’ll be back on Tuesday, perhaps a little worse for wear…

  38. scott19 on May 6th, 2008 6:37 pm

    the various Alaskans

Hey, wouldn’t that be a cool name for a garage band?! 🙂

  39. scott19 on May 6th, 2008 7:12 pm

Actually, Joser, I totally spaced on it being Cinco…probably ‘cuz, like St. Patty’s Day this year, it was on a freakin’ Monday.

Always more fun when those two fall on or near a weekend! 🙂
