Reminder

I’m on KJR at 3:35 pm with Groz. I’m sure the interview will be full of optimism and brightness, because this team is awesome.

    Ponies!

    sorry Gas won’t be there.

  2. Hooligan on May 23rd, 2008 2:35 pm

If msb made a dime every time he refreshed the page at USSM, he’d be a very wealthy man.

Kick ass and take names, Dave.

    looking forward to listening…

“I look at it, and I just don’t understand it,” McLaren said. “I really don’t. The only scenario that could be worse than what’s going on right now is if we didn’t prepare and we didn’t play hard. If that was the case, it would be unbearable.”

so now he’s telling us that the players are playing hard, if how there playing right now is the definition of playing hard, i wonder how much we will lose by a night when they decide not to “play hard”

  4. Sklyansky on May 23rd, 2008 2:39 pm

That’s a real McClaren quote? That is hilarious and sad at the same time. Well let’s hope the M’s keep preparing and playing hard–otherwise they might not win as much.

The only scenario that could be worse than what’s going on right now is if we didn’t prepare and we didn’t play hard. If that was the case, it would be unbearable.

Wow, Mclaren doesn’t think we’ve hit rock bottom yet. That there’s still territory even further into the abyss that we haven’t explored.

  6. jspektor on May 23rd, 2008 2:57 pm

dave: be sure and give me a shout out.

  7. scott19 on May 23rd, 2008 2:58 pm

It sounds like McLaren is boldly (read: stupidly) going where no sane manager would dare to go…

Although expanding on his definition of the word “hard”, I will admit that this team has been hard to watch.

  8. Dave Clapper on May 23rd, 2008 3:04 pm

Good to see that the reduction in Groz’s on air time isn’t impacting your segments, Dave.

  9. Nuss on May 23rd, 2008 3:15 pm

You all should be thankful for McLaren’s quote.

He’s just said himself what USSM/LL have been saying all along: That this team just isn’t good and doesn’t have enough talent. Because if they’re preparing, trying hard and still not playing well, there’s really only one explanation left — all the preparation in the world isn’t going to overcome a lack of ability.

  10. Go Felix on May 23rd, 2008 3:20 pm

    Good luck Dave

  11. Mike Snow on May 23rd, 2008 3:20 pm

Baker says they’re skipping Felix’s start because of that sore calf.

  12. scott19 on May 23rd, 2008 3:25 pm

    9: So true!

  13. wabbles on May 23rd, 2008 3:28 pm

To steal a line from that San Diego sportswriter’s great column on the impacting of the Chargers drafting Ryan Leaf, the Mariners front office should just say: “We decided we’re not going to play the game tonight. We forfeit. This season’s over. Now we are going to go burn down Safeco Field. Thank you. Good night.”

  14. Benne on May 23rd, 2008 3:30 pm

5 minutes to showtime. Can’t wait to hear what Dave has to say.

  15. RoninX on May 23rd, 2008 3:37 pm

For some reason KJR’s “listen live” feature won’t fire for me today. Anyone willing to post the gist of Dave’s comments once he goes on the air?

  16. nwtrev on May 23rd, 2008 3:41 pm

15 – seconded. It started playing then just crapped out.

  17. Tree on May 23rd, 2008 3:44 pm

Do you get stuck on “loading content”? because that is where I am.

  18. Benne on May 23rd, 2008 3:47 pm

Washburn/Batista actually have worse numbers than HoRam/Weaver last year. That is depressing.

  19. PositivePaul on May 23rd, 2008 3:47 pm

I’d LOVE to see Groz batting third. He couldn’t be any worse than Vidro…

  20. Go Felix on May 23rd, 2008 3:52 pm

    17:

I didn’t realize that either. Now I feel worse about this season. Oh well, I’ll still be at the game on Monday….Depending on what happens this weekend in NY you’ll probably see someone wearing a bag on his head at the game on Monday. I’m dead serious.

  21. jspektor on May 23rd, 2008 3:54 pm

I’d be curious what we could get for JJ … there might be an overly ridiculous package out there.

  22. G-Man on May 23rd, 2008 3:59 pm

Bill Krueger’s Keys to The Game include “Everybody Grab An Oar”

I think a lifejacket would be more appropriate.

  23. Paul B on May 23rd, 2008 4:03 pm

BB: “Gee, Mac, I just don’t understand it.”
Mac: “I don’t get it either, Bill. The players are working hard and preparing, and boy do we stink.”
BB: “I wonder why the team I carefully assembled is doing so poorly. Wait, could it be?”
    Mac: “What, boss?”
BB: “Could it be that everything I have learned in my whole life about talent evaluation is wrong? That it is all just a bunch of platitudes and myths?”
    Mac: “What??”
    BB: “Naah…”
Mac: “Good one, Boss. You had me going there for a moment.”

  24. Benne on May 23rd, 2008 4:04 pm

    No game thread yet?

  25. Benne on May 23rd, 2008 4:08 pm

Uh…why the fuck is Turbo hitting 3rd?

  26. Sklyansky on May 23rd, 2008 4:10 pm

Where else would Mac put his professional hitter?

  27. dnc on May 23rd, 2008 4:11 pm

Uh…why the fuck is Turbo hitting 3rd?

Because McLaren’s filling out the lineup card.

  28. pgreyy on May 23rd, 2008 4:16 pm

Washburn/Batista actually have worse numbers than HoRam/Weaver last year.

At this point in time last year, HoRam was still the “undefeatable at home” wonder, wasn’t he?

“The threat of being fooled by small sample size” was still in place last year.

Realizing that you’ve been sold a bill of goods labeled “No, seriously, we have five quality starting pitchers”–priceless, every year we buy into it.

  29. msb on May 23rd, 2008 4:18 pm

Uh…why the fuck is Turbo hitting 3rd?

    that’s why, you unbeliever.

  30. nwtrev on May 23rd, 2008 4:20 pm

Yeah…but … “Two out. Why bother?”

  31. Swungonandbelted on May 23rd, 2008 4:23 pm

Hey, did we just have a 1-2-3 first inning?

  32. Go Felix on May 23rd, 2008 4:25 pm

Bedard’s curve ball looks great right now.

  33. PaulMolitorCocktail on May 23rd, 2008 4:26 pm

Wait, the Yankees didn’t score 5 runs in the first inning?

    We have a chance!

  34. The Nickster on May 23rd, 2008 4:27 pm

Is this sufficing as the game thread?

Anyone have a link to Dave’s spot on KJR? I’d love to hear it.

  35. PaulMolitorCocktail on May 23rd, 2008 4:28 pm

    Who is Dave talking to?

  36. argh on May 23rd, 2008 4:28 pm

    Dan Wilson.

  37. G-Man on May 23rd, 2008 4:29 pm

Why is Dan Wilson living in the Northeast?

  38. msb on May 23rd, 2008 4:32 pm

The Wilsons said last year they were doing it ‘for a year’, but it was never said just *why* the NE. I don’t think it is family, as I believe both sets of parents still live in Illinois …

  39. nwtrev on May 23rd, 2008 4:32 pm

    Game thread up now

  40. The Nickster on May 23rd, 2008 4:33 pm

First beer of the game is officially opened. The second is on deck. I’m ready for this game.
