Game 65, Mariners at Blue Jays

4:07, Silva v McGowan.

For all of the initial talk about Lee Elia continuing Pentland’s approach except with some minor difference I’m not so sure about, Elia’s already came out saying that he wants to see his batters improve their plate discipline. With that in mind…

Mariner Leaders, BB, total
Beltre and Ibanez, 27
Ichiro! 23
Sexson, 20
Vidro, 12
Balentien and Wilkerson, 10

… wait, I’m sorry…Wilkerson is tied for 5th-most walks on the Mariners? They threw him off the team for not hitting. And as bad as that punchless .232/.348/.304 is, it’s still more productive than three current regulars: Balentien, Vidro, and Johjima.

Elia has a challenge ahead of him, certainly.

(interesting fact — Wilkerson doesn’t show up on the M’s sortable stats page on MLB.com)

I don’t know how the rest of you feel, but — “watching” via MLB.com’s GameDay — I felt like the Mariners “hitters” were in a big hurry to get back out on the field the last 3 innings or so. I was doing something else, checked GameDay and they were in the 7th — it seemed like only 10 minutes and there was one out in the top of the 9th.

Our capacity to make other teams’ starters look like Cy Young candidates knows no bounds.

Richie Sexson, you’re our only hope

These are the saddest of possible words…

I do like the blues music they play on the post-game show now. Real mellow, sad, down-in-the-dumps licks. Fits.

I find your lack of faith disturbing… yet correct.

At least we can soon wake up to Felix Day.

Yeah, at least the short time-of-game, combined with difficulty in procuring beer from Papua New Guinea, make it easy to get up in time for tomorrow’s brunchtime Felix start.

so, was McGowan that much better than he has been the last year or was it the Mariner Magic Touch TM?

    It is game 65…

As a stat site, I’m thinking we should have that part right.

I can understand that no one cares anymore…

At 3:30 my car died in the middle of a lane on a busy street. Between the car almost getting rear-ended, me almost getting hit by traffic, and waiting two hours for the tow truck, I had a much better time than if I’d been able to listen to the game. At least I know the car will be fixed soon. Sigh.

I think we need another thread about the hunt for Papua New Guinea beer. Those were the good times.

Also, Kona’s Wailua seasonal release is surprisingly delicious. Wheat ale w/ passion fruit. I love it. And I usually stick to just dark beers.

Actually, if Beltre and Ibañez are tied for first, that makes Wilkerson tied for SIXTH.

Damn, that was a fast game. Clearly the Mariners hitters were in a hurry to hit the bar early and pick up some Canadian chicks.

Which means they will all be hungover for tomorrow morning’s game. Except for Felix, because man-made beer cannot make Felix drunk.
