Game 117, Rays at Mariners

Garza vs Rowland-Smith, 7:10 pm.

Welcome back, RR-S. As a flyball pitcher with command problems, we don’t expect you to be great – your upside is as a #5 starter who succeeds mostly because your skillset is perfect for Safeco Field. But, hey, you cost nothing, which makes you $10 million times better than Jarrod Washburn.

    No comments yet?!

So how ’bout that injury by Willie last night? Gritting out a ground ball he pulled up lame after crossing the bag. Eventually he gritted his teeth and almost made it to the dugout under his own gritty power.

Should we expect Balentien to take over in the platoon in center?

I was at this one… Hell of a game… Till the 6th inning.

    RRS:

    4 LD
    8 GB
    7 FB (1 HR)
    5 K
    2 BB
    1 HBP
    106 pitches

    Not bad for an Aussie.

Ichiro in right and Balentin in center makes Baby Bill James cry.

That game broke my heart. Literally broke my heart.

I discovered how much I depend on this thread for game time venting. Somehow, reading the insane comments at Geoff Baker’s blog just isn’t the same.

I felt sort of conflicted about Willie taking one for the team. That injury’s sort of been coming since he seemed to tweak the hamstring a couple of games ago. So, with plans to ‘test the free agent market’ this off season, should he really have been risking injury running full out there?

Or maybe he just didn’t want Silva calling him out for selfish play.

It would have be more entertaining to see Silva run full out to first base.
