Washburn for GM

On the rumors that the Twins were offering Boof Bonser, Washburn said: “If that was the case, how much more do you think you’re going to get? A young guy with a great arm who’s cheap.â€
I just hope that the M’s front office doesn’t like being shown up by their own player and rids us of him. Make the trade Lee!
Obviously the guy wants out of here. Why not just accomodate him?
When The Bus is better at player evaluation than the guys in the FO who are getting paid to do it, that oughta tell ya something.
Hey, why not? Hell, they did that with Nellie back in ’03 when they right in the middle of a pennant race…so what have they got to lose now?!
Assume for the moment that this isn’t Wash just trying to tweak people enough to get outta town ‘cuz he’s tired of the charade here as well. If he’s serious…then he knows a decent deal better than the FO?
That’s what’s known as “the inmates running the asylum.”
Per the ALWAYS reliable sources of KJR and an interview today with PI writer Andreissen, the Mariners FO / Lee P. think that the Mariners have to wait up to 30 days before the Mariners can put Washburn back on waivers.
Thus, if we have to keep Wash, we might as well get him to do something useful….GM works for me.
I don’t think that’s true.
If it was, Washburn’s value to teams would be much lessened, as it bars getting him on the playoff roster.

So, what you’re sayin’ is, Pelekoudos should get the start Monday night against the ChiSox, and Washburn should take over the interim GM spot…

I doubt it…though at least he’s venting toward the right people for a change.
The best part of this is Washburn recognises that Bonser’s low salary is an asset. The M’s don’t seem to understand cost vs. benefit.
But then, Washburn went to college, didn’t he?
So you’re telling me that even Washburn thinks the Mariners value Washburn too highly?

I had a meeting with Bernie Brillstein to discuss it, only he dropped dead.
I hate my team.
I hate the “skillset” of the players they’ve assembled, the personalities and excuses of quite a few of the players, the “decision making ability” of those in charge, and have zero hope for the next 3-5 years…but I’ve been a fan since I was 8 years old, and I can’t ever escape them being my team.
Eventually, attendance is going to average less than 20k and they’ll be forced to rip the whole thing down and start over. I was buying tickets to 8-10 games a year – driving up from Portland every time. I’m down to 3-4 this year, and I probably won’t buy any next year when they go on sale. Lets hope the teardown comes sooner than later.
According to John Hickey on the PI Blog, Boof Bonser was never brought up in discussions.
Bonser wasn’t heading to Seattle
Despite persistent media reports, the Mariners never had a chance at getting right-handed reliever Boof Bonser from the Twins in exchange for jarrod Washburn.
There’s no doubt the Mariners would have jumped at the deal had it been offered Wednesday or Thursday as the deadine for revocable waiver deals approached. But it wasn’t offered.
Bonser is 3-6 with a 6.37 ERA this year, but he’s younger and cheaper than Washburn and throws 95 mph.
Sources with the Mariners and in the Commissioner’s Office both said Bonser’s name never was brought up.
One name that was brought up was that of right-handed pitcher Nick Blackburn, but almost as soon as the name was put on the table, the Twins took it off. Minnesota clearly wasn’t in a giving mood.

forgive me if this has been suggested or attempted already, but can we begin an absolutely massive letter-writing campaign designed to annoy-cajole-threaten-plead the front office into some sort of action, change, or at least the acknowledgement of the fact that they are complete assholes?
