    Yes, that’s a joke.

That’s pretty exciting. Not as exciting as Puppy Bowl V, however.

Josh Hamilton is moving to right, Zito has (another) new workout regime, Bobby Abreu is baffled about the lack of interest, and Drayer is back on air

    what is?

The Mariners might be interested in Rich Hill as the return piece in a Washburn + something salary freeing move to pick up Abreu.

Great letter to the editor in Sunday’s Seattle Times sports section.

And what about the possibility of Rich Hill coming to the Emerald City?

Messr. Kotchman signing a one year deal

I think it’s critical that we bear in mind that the letter writer’s sentiments are not unique, and that selling tickets into a crumbling economy (and how many jobs were lost in this area in just the past week?) is part of the Mariners management’s task. If this were the team’s management last year, I suspect they could have resisted the Griffey temptation far more easily than they might this year, and if they do resist it, we really have to commend them for putting the longterm development of the system ahead of an easy slug of cash. But if they go for the easy slug of cash, I for one won’t blame them too much. If they can make a $2 million profit on Griffey tickets, that’s $2 million they have to spend on the future.

But don’t all fans ultimately want a winner? While I understand the “easy slug of cash” that would come from bringing Griffey back, it seems like it weakens the chance of having a winning team.

The numbers that have been posted on USSMariner.com seem to indicate that bringing Griffey back would weaken the team, not get the Mariners closer to being a winner.

I hate losing as much as anyone else – but I don’t want to compound it by watching a former great in his waning years contributing to the mess.

As soon as I submit, I realized that not all fans want a winning team. Some just want a group of nice guys who they can have their kids look up to. So don’t bother correcting that point.

Joke or no, you could go update that other blog of yours. The CGTB blog hasn’t had an update in over 9 months. There was a promised post about Bug Selig and the consolidation of power he’s garnered in his tenure that you were supposed to write two years ago.

Yeah, I was bored and went and looked over the other blog for a bit. I still find the shitstorms started by the K-Rod thing hilarious. Also, I wonder if Mike Sweeney realizes he’s coming to play for the team you root for. Snitch.

I can’t believe how poorly the Braves managed the Teixeira trades. Atlanta basically dealt Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Elvis Andrus, Matt Harrison and Neftali Feliz for Casey Kotchman. Hideous.

the Chuckster has been pretty quiet the last month or so, but he popped up down in Portland friday

  14. Breadbaker on February 1st, 2009 11:25 pm

The team lacked veteran leadership that might have helped deter losing streaks and other struggles, he said.

The Chuckster still doesn’t get it, does he? He had all the “veteran leadership” he could want in Sexson, Vidro, Washburn and Silva. The reason they had losing streaks was that they weren’t playing baseball very well.

  15. msb on February 2nd, 2009 6:58 am

well, and that you are looking to Sexson and Silva for leadership.

It never even occurred to me it was a joke until you mentioned it.

Right, the Superbowl. I didn’t even know that was yesterday.

According to a press release from the Cubs, they’ve traded Hill to the Orioles for a player to be named later. bummer…

  18. Nate on February 2nd, 2009 9:18 am

yeah? well, the M’s play the Padres in 23 days! (kinda)
    that’s THIS month!

hey! it’s the 200a All Star game on mlb.com.

Cammie’s up to bat, with Mike Sweeney in the on-deck circle…

    PTBNL? there’s a bargain.

    PTBNL? there’s a bargain.

It depends. The player to be named will be determined by Hill’s success in Baltimore. Hill does well, Balt gives up more than your average PTBNL. He flops, then it’s a typical PTBNL.
