USSM Meetup, NC version

Dave · April 23, 2009 at 9:41 am · Filed Under Mariners

With Conor Glassey and Jeff Shaw joining me as North Carolina residents, we’ve decided to have an east coast USSM event. Thanks to Conor doing the legwork, we have a date and a place.

Sunday, May 17th, at the Champps Sports in Durham. We’ll have a private room that can hold up to 40 people to watch the Mariners take on the Red Sox. If you’re interested, just leave a note in the comments so we can get a rough headcount. We’ll post a few more notices as the date gets closer.

Nice for the people on the east coast!

Is there any chance you’ll be coming to The Netherlands ? Although i don’t think there are many Mariners fans over here besides me and maybe some family of Greg Halman 🙁

It’s days like this that I wish I didn’t live in Kansas (and there are many days just like this). At least the housing is affordable.

  3. Go Felix on April 23rd, 2009 10:50 am

    USSMARINER NATION!!!

  4. jflemer on April 23rd, 2009 11:01 am

I might be interested in such. Bit of a drive since I’m in Virginia, but it might be possible.

  5. BillH on April 23rd, 2009 11:09 am

Shoot. Durham’s just a little too far away for me in DC.

But hey, Felix is on early today so I don’t have to stay up past my bedtime to watch.

Amen to that! I’m in CST here in Texas and I think the 9:10pm start times are bad. I should be thankful they aren’t 10:10pm. Much respect to the east coast M’s faithful.

Hope y’all do it up right on 5/17. I’ll be catching the live version earlier that week in Arlington.

  7. ScotlandMsFan on April 23rd, 2009 11:31 am

Any chance there will be a tour that covers Scotland? Perhaps there is a European contigent of expat M’s fans after all

  8. smb on April 23rd, 2009 11:33 am

Oh god…I really hope this event does not get crashed by Sawx fans.

  9. Mariner Fan in CO Exile on April 23rd, 2009 11:38 am

My heart sinks everytime I see one of these notices, since it would take an amazing set of coincidences to permit me to attend. I hope you guys have a blast!

At least I have the consolation of being able to see live M’s action when they are here in Colorado in June.

  10. homi on April 23rd, 2009 11:41 am

I would love to be there being i’m in alabama. However, i’m gearing up for a deployment 🙁

    GO MARINERS!!

  11. DKulich on April 23rd, 2009 11:47 am

Oh man, USSM getting closer to me… any chance one or two of you end up in living in Philadelphia any time soon??

Jokes aside, this is a pretty awesome event, good luck with it and thanks for your continued hard work guys.

  12. sass on April 23rd, 2009 11:50 am

Ike, I’m in Kansas, too. An ember of hope for a Midwest USSM meeting begins to glow!

  13. AD_ROY84 on April 23rd, 2009 11:52 am

I’m in Kansas City, count in another midwest attendee.

  14. Pig on April 23rd, 2009 12:07 pm

Mariner Fan in CO excile – ping me at spignotti@case4n6.com if you’re interested in hooking up for a beer in June. I should be able to arrange for a business trip around the series.

Heading to see Felix day today on my birthday!

  15. thesinator on April 23rd, 2009 12:13 pm

I live in Long Beach, CA. Any other M’s fans down here? I’m gonna try to see the game tomorrow (Bedard!). You can hit me up at jeremy.hansuvadha@ocsarts.net

  16. Mariner Fan in CO Exile on April 23rd, 2009 12:24 pm

Thanks Pig, I will. If there is any interest among other Colorado folks to meet when the M’s are out here, I’d be happy to organize a non-sanctioned meet-up before one of the games.

Email me at Marinerfanincoexile@hotmail.com. I don’t want to hijack this thread any more than I have, so if you are interested in a Colorado meet-up in June, please just email me rather than posting interest.

  17. Jordan 'JWay' Gillis on April 23rd, 2009 12:54 pm

USSM Sioux Falls, SD anyone?!? =/

  18. David M. on April 23rd, 2009 12:57 pm

What a nice coincidence, as I’m in Durham. Put me down +1 (or maybe +2) guests.

  19. wilymo on April 23rd, 2009 1:16 pm

Dave, do you have any plans of being down in Atlanta this year?

How far is Durham from Atlanta?

  20. wabbles on April 23rd, 2009 1:22 pm

Yes, now it is time for us Seattleites to feel jealous about not being able to attend an event. Oh well. I’ll be in Las Vegas from May 10-15, hoping to catch a Las Vegas 51s game, if anyone is interested.

  21. galaxieboi on April 23rd, 2009 1:24 pm

I’ll be attending all three M’s games in Denver this June too. Drop me a line at galaxieboi@hotmail.com and we can have little unofficial USSM meeting at Coors.

I’m also looking to get together with other M’s fans around Denver and watch some of the games at a bar or my place or something.

Have fun in Durman east coasters!!

  22. dchappelle on April 23rd, 2009 1:42 pm

In Charlotte, but not likely to go that weekend. bummer

Durham is about 6hrs from ATL.

  23. joser on April 23rd, 2009 1:53 pm

This is an aside to Derek — I wonder if this is something you can add to your (endless, I know) site “to do” list: add one of the many WordPress plug-ins for event registration / management. There are a bunch of them, and you’d probably have to ask around the WordPress community or experiment some to find the right one. But it might streamline the process for official USSM meet-ups (particularly hooking up with Paypal, keeping a running total, etc). And if you wanted to get really ambitious, you could spend an hour in the winter plugging the M’s next season non-AL West roadtrip series into it, so that small groups of expatriate M’s fans (like the CO or KC folks here) could better coordinate their own meet-ups.

I know, I know — ideas are easy, time and work required are the hard part. But I’m not a WordPress guru so ideas are all I’ve got.

  24. MKT on April 23rd, 2009 1:59 pm

I’ll be in NC, but only for a few days at the end of June.

I live in Long Beach, CA. Any other M’s fans down here? I’m gonna try to see the game tomorrow (Bedard!).

I think there’s plenty, trouble is my schedule is still unknown so I don’t know which if any of the Angels games I’ll get to. And when the M’s next visit Anaheim, I’ll be in Atlanta. I should be able to see them when they come to Dodger Stadium though.

  25. Sports on a Schtick on April 23rd, 2009 2:03 pm

    But will there be pizza???

  26. nfreakct on April 23rd, 2009 2:10 pm

I live right nearby so I’d definitely be up to hear the wisdom of USSMariner in Durham.

  27. JerBear on April 23rd, 2009 2:42 pm

    But will there be pizza???

    And is it all-you-can-eat???!!!??? 🙂

I’m in San Diego, so obviously unable to attend – but I sure hope you guys have fun! And if anyone is interested in a SoCal meetup someday, I’m always down. Maybe around the M’s/Pads game mid June? We could even invite some of those hooligans from Lookout Landing…

  28. TheMsfan on April 23rd, 2009 2:49 pm

Just moved out to Virginia Beach, would be very interested, sounds fantastic

  29. GTownHoyas on April 23rd, 2009 4:00 pm

I wasted aware that Mariners fans came from so many different regions…

  30. GTownHoyas on April 23rd, 2009 4:01 pm

I WASN’T aware. Sorry, I have no idea where that came from

  31. nvn8vbryce on April 23rd, 2009 4:05 pm

June 27 – 30 we have Tacoma down here in Reno to take on the Aces – if any M’s fans in the Reno / Sacramento area want to come on down to Aces’ Park, you can e-mail brycel@unr.edu and we can make arrangements…

  32. JustinC on April 23rd, 2009 4:05 pm

I have been reading USSM and LL for around five years, and I’ve always wanted to go to one of these events, but couldnt, because I was going to school in New Orleans. Well, I just moved to Durham on Saturday and guess what? I’m going to be out of town that weekend in May, back in New Orleans where there are many wonderful things, but never USSM events. Bummer. Please have more North Carolina events, and I will almost certainly be there.

  33. dnc on April 23rd, 2009 4:19 pm

GTownHoyas, sounds like a Freudian slip.

  34. ajacobs3 on April 23rd, 2009 4:22 pm

I should be able to drive up from Charlotte. Look forward to finally meeting you guys.

  35. TCW on April 23rd, 2009 5:05 pm

Would there happen to be any more M’s fans lurking [like me, because at the moment I can’t spend enough time figuring out those new stats so I learn what I can] in Hawaii?

I’m here until end of July, and I’ve met one thus far. Last week at a UH game, in case he’s here.

  36. daveblev on April 23rd, 2009 6:17 pm

Just moved out to Virginia Beach, would be very interested, sounds fantastic

I live in Chesapeake and work in VA Beach, so i’m interested as well but I think I have my daughter that weekend.

Maybe there could be a meetup down the road when the Pulaski Mariners (Rookie league) season starts in June. I’ll have to see if the Norfolk Tides are playing the Bulls that weekend.

  37. Dave on April 23rd, 2009 6:39 pm

Well, for those who can’t make it the 17th, I have good news…

Neither can I. I just found out I have a wedding to go to that day (yes, a Sunday wedding), so we’re going to have to move this back to May 31st. Hopefully that works better for those who were going to have miss it.

  38. thowe1 on April 23rd, 2009 10:28 pm

Count me in…. I have long awaited this day as a quiet M’s supporter here in the ATL. I will be in Raleigh on business, great excuse to run through some beers for the cause on the firm. I got first round!!!!

  39. TheMsfan on April 24th, 2009 1:03 am

31st works better for me then the 17th anyway, I’m in like flint. Unless silvas starting, then i have……..landscaping to do? That or ill get an early start on the 2010 tax season

  40. mrmitra on April 24th, 2009 5:48 am

Sweet. I am going to be at a weeklong leadership training thing for the 17th so the 31st works out so much better.

  41. notanangrygradstudent on April 24th, 2009 6:34 am

Was starting to post about how I might not be able to make the 17th. 31st is much easier. I’ll put it on the calendar. Looking forward to it.

  42. JustinC on April 24th, 2009 4:36 pm

Outstanding. Wild horses couldnt keep me away. Unexpected weddings, graduations, funerals, on the other hand . . . But really, count me in.
