Game 48, Mariners at A’s

Bedard vs Cahill, 12:35 pm.

The A’s offense isn’t very good, and Bedard is. Quick, someone make sure that Ruben Amaro and Kenny Williams are watching this game.

Even with the day-game-after-night-game stuff, we still get Rob Johnson starting. And Ronny Cedeno is all the way up in the 6-spot. But hey, even Cedeno’s hitting better than Jose Lopez right now.

  2. Gustafson on May 27th, 2009 12:44 pm

Ichiro making up for those two weeks he missed…

  3. zvazda on May 27th, 2009 12:48 pm

I really love it when you have a runner on third with nobody out… and then he’s still there with two outs.

  4. naviomelo on May 27th, 2009 12:50 pm

    That was terrible.

  5. SpokaneDan on May 27th, 2009 12:50 pm

    That is disgusting.

  6. srp on May 27th, 2009 12:52 pm

That sucks. Betancourt and Beltre should be ashamed.

  7. MX on May 27th, 2009 12:52 pm

So the lead-off hit a double, stole third but could not get home.

What can you say about this team? What more can ichiro do?

    This team sucks!

  8. JerBear on May 27th, 2009 12:53 pm

hmmm… I think I’m glad the video stream wasn’t working for the top half of the inning.

  9. Red Apple on May 27th, 2009 12:53 pm

Selfish Ichiro…getting to third all by himself.

Dear Adrian: Please, please stop trying to pull everything. You’re killing us.

  10. Red Apple on May 27th, 2009 12:58 pm

Even with the day-game-after-night-game stuff, we still get Rob Johnson starting.

The thought of a tired Rob Johnson batting…wow.

  11. zvazda on May 27th, 2009 1:08 pm

    Little Things!

  12. MedicineHat on May 27th, 2009 1:13 pm

Great call by Doug Eddings. Terrible baserunning.

  13. naviomelo on May 27th, 2009 1:22 pm

    Is RBOE a repeatable skill?

  14. srp on May 27th, 2009 1:45 pm

I would love to see the Ms put up 7 or 8 runs against someone. It feels like it’s been ages.

  15. naviomelo on May 27th, 2009 1:56 pm

I would love to see the Ms put up 7 or 8 runs against someone. It feels like it’s been ages.

Last time they scored at least 7 runs was in the May 3 marathon 15-inning 8-7 win vs. Oakland.

  16. Breadbaker on May 27th, 2009 1:58 pm

The M’s 2009 motto: man on third, less than two outs, so what?

  17. JerBear on May 27th, 2009 1:59 pm

    This is just embarrassing.

  18. MsFanInAustin on May 27th, 2009 2:13 pm

Can anyone justify why on earth Betancourt is hitting in the two hole? Since he’s been moved there he’s been a blackhole in the lineup.

  19. MsFanInAustin on May 27th, 2009 2:15 pm

No RBI since May 16th! Seriously?

  20. MsFanInAustin on May 27th, 2009 2:16 pm

    Woo!!! Russell the Muscle!!!

  21. pumpkinhead on May 27th, 2009 2:17 pm

    Branyan!!!!! Whoop!

  22. JerBear on May 27th, 2009 2:17 pm

Russell the Muscle!!! That was an awesome shot.

  23. pumpkinhead on May 27th, 2009 2:21 pm

For once the M’s make a team pay for a fielding error.

  24. littlesongs on May 27th, 2009 2:23 pm

Raisin Branyan cleans the bases like only a big bowl of Branyan can. The concrete ashtray almost looked beautiful watching his shot climbing out.

  25. MsFanInAustin on May 27th, 2009 2:24 pm

I’d really like to witness a DP here.

  26. pumpkinhead on May 27th, 2009 2:28 pm

M’s are winning, Barca won… the day is shaping up to be pretty good after all!

  27. pumpkinhead on May 27th, 2009 2:33 pm

Endy 500 zooming around the bases for a 3 bagger!

Where did this timely offense come from anyways? M’s better pace themselves, they’re going to sprain their bats.

  28. MsFanInAustin on May 27th, 2009 2:33 pm

C’mon Yuni, you can get an RBI here if you try.

  29. MsFanInAustin on May 27th, 2009 2:36 pm

I almost can’t believe it! The RBI drought ends for Betancourt.

I should talk trash about him more often. Yes?

  30. georgmi on May 27th, 2009 2:46 pm

I dunno, if talking trash about him here worked, he’d be hitting .400

  31. pumpkinhead on May 27th, 2009 2:56 pm

Did Sims just say $1.95 for a beer at the A’s ballpark??

  32. bartly7 on May 27th, 2009 3:06 pm

Not much Rob bashing going on today…

  33. Ralph_Malph on May 27th, 2009 3:06 pm

We should start calling Rob Johnson Mr. Double.

  34. georgmi on May 27th, 2009 3:07 pm

How does Endy’s overall BABIP compare to his average when he bunts?

  35. AssumedName on May 27th, 2009 3:09 pm

    Rob Johnson, power-hitting catcher.

Oh, and bunted for sacrifice but beat it out? I think Wak should put the bunt on more.

  36. JerBear on May 27th, 2009 3:10 pm

Hey – so what does it mean again when the score board says “SEA 6″? Do we have 6 more outs before we lose or something? I forget…

  37. Ralph_Malph on May 27th, 2009 3:10 pm

Even though it worked there, I think they overdo the bunting with a man on second. He’s already in scoring position, with 3 chances to knock him in with a hit if you don’t use up an out. If you move him over with a bunt, you only have one chance to get him in from 3rd with a sac fly or ground out.

I know it’s a matter of run expectancy tables and I’m too lazy to look up the exact numbers, but it seems like this has become almost an automatic move for the M’s and I don’t like it.

  38. KaminaAyato on May 27th, 2009 3:10 pm

We should start calling Rob Johnson Mr. Double.

No no no… There’s only one Mr. Double around here, and he has a street named after him.

  39. naviomelo on May 27th, 2009 3:13 pm

    I love Ichiro.

  40. pumpkinhead on May 27th, 2009 3:15 pm

Jeez, he stayed on the bag way after the ball was caught.

  41. Noonan on May 27th, 2009 3:24 pm

Bedard is peaking… lets pull the trigger.

  42. georgmi on May 27th, 2009 3:24 pm

(Trying to answer my own question, because that’s what, among other things, the Internet is for.)

I think I’m reading this as Endy’s career BABIP is .296, and his career BUH/BU is 49/157 or .312

So that would suggest we’re happy when Endy lays one down?

  43. naviomelo on May 27th, 2009 3:25 pm

19 runs in 8 games, and we go 4-4 in those games.

  44. Butwheredoesthemeatgo on May 27th, 2009 3:25 pm

Those kinds of W’s are encouraging, hopefully they can use some of this momentum to win a couple in Anaheim. Bedard is really, really good.

  45. Ralph_Malph on May 27th, 2009 3:27 pm

I didn’t say we should call him Señor Doblé. That would be sacrilege.

  46. Breadbaker on May 27th, 2009 3:36 pm

That’s Dr. Double to you, sir.

  47. KaminaAyato on May 27th, 2009 3:38 pm

Ok, I stand corrected. But still. I think the title, regardless of language should still be exclusively held for Edgar.

  48. kenshabby on May 27th, 2009 3:40 pm

I just got off the phone with Kenny Williams. He said he’s only interested in a Jimmy Gobble and Brian Anderson-for-Bedard/Betancourt/Mike Blowers deal. Apparently Blowers would replace Ken “The Hawk” Harrelson, a move which would greatly increase the irritatingness of our color commentary.

  49. Red Apple on May 27th, 2009 3:42 pm

    No doubt about it.

  50. JMHawkins on May 27th, 2009 4:24 pm

We should start calling Rob Johnson Mr. Double

    How about Rob Double.

  51. jettmorrison on May 27th, 2009 5:12 pm

My thought has always been that we were winning (despite personal numbers) when Johnson was behind the plate, and Chavez was leading off.

I think, despite how Ichiro is conceived as a lead-off hitter, that our lineup should start with:

    1. Chavez
    2. Ichiro
    3. Lopez
    4. Branyan
    5. Beltre
    6. Griffey

  52. Coolalvin206 on May 27th, 2009 6:37 pm

You know what is pathetic? The M’s haven’t won back to back games in over a month

  53. SonOfZavaras on May 27th, 2009 6:47 pm

I still think Gutierrez should be in the two-hole.

Tomorrow! Lackey vs. Vargas! Time for back-to-back wins (fingers crossed)! wOOt!

  54. juneau_fan on May 27th, 2009 7:31 pm

The game’s being replayed on FSN for folks like me willing to watch us win for sure!

Nice capture of the third base coach trying to coach Yuni after he didn’t get the runner home from third in the first inning. Talk about some body language! Not listening in any language.

  55. msb on May 27th, 2009 7:37 pm

Since it was Bruce Hines, we know he was telling Yuni in Spanish …

  56. juneau_fan on May 27th, 2009 7:50 pm

I can think of a few fans who’d like a chance to ‘communicate’ with Yuni.

Aw, that was bad! I saw that Ichiro was caught stealing on Gameday at work, but it was a stinky steal live.

And is there some way to find out what Yuni’s popout rate is? I’m sort of obsessed with his number of popup outs.

  57. Breadbaker on May 27th, 2009 8:03 pm

Yes, clearly the guy who has been on base 69 times and has been driven in 12 times by his teammates should have his position in the order changed. Here’s how you can tell the lineup sucks: Beltre, Branyan, Lopez and Gutierrez have all been driven in by teammates (i.e., not on their own home runs) more than the guy how leads off and has been on base (despite missing the first eight games) more than anyone else on the club. But what sucks is not Ichiro’s position in the batting order. It’s Griffey’s, Yuni’s and Beltre’s.

  58. kenshabby on May 27th, 2009 9:34 pm

That’s a swell idea. From now on I’ll watch only FSN replays of M’s games they’ve won. Starting in the ninth inning.

  59. juneau_fan on May 27th, 2009 9:39 pm

Darn, I had to leave work. Does Yuni pop out here? I’m betting he does. Or a DP.

  60. juneau_fan on May 27th, 2009 9:40 pm

Nope, door number three! A strike out! And what a pissy face that was he gave sauntering back to the dug out. Has he heard the trade rumors?
