Be More Encouraged

In Tacoma tonight:

Ryan Rowland-Smith – 5 innings, 3 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts, 81 pitches. They’ll probably give him another rehab start, but it doesn’t look like he really needs it. If the team wants to trade Bedard or Washburn after this weekend, the rotation replacement is ready.

Adam Moore – 2 for 3 with a home run. It was his first longball since joining the Rainiers.

In West Tennessee tonight:

Josh Fields – 1 inning, 0 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks, 1 strikeout. It was the first time he’d pitched since May 5th, after the team shut him down with “dead arm”. He wasn’t exactly sharp, as he only threw seven strikes in 19 pitches, but he miraculously got three outs anyway.

By the way, High Desert and Lancaster are currently tied at 0 in the 7th inning. This might not be encouraging, as I think scoreless games between those two teams are a sign of the apocalypse.

Seven strikes in 19 batters is bad?

  2. Dave on May 28th, 2009 10:02 pm

That obviously should have read seven strikes in 19 pitches. I’ve fixed it.

I know, just having some fun with you.

Great report! Especially excited about Moore. Thanks Dave!

I would be interested to see the result if Josh Fields pitched to Yuniesky Betancourt.

  5. Dave on May 28th, 2009 10:25 pm

Me too. That would mean Betancourt isn’t a Mariner anymore.

  6. Mike Snow on May 28th, 2009 10:33 pm

Yes, that was one of the reasons I’m interested to see it happen.

A reliever who is having a hard time throwing strikes? He’ll fit right in…

We’ll have Batista and Morrow coach him up, and Fields could be walking the bases loaded in the majors in no time!

Wish we could trade him for just Adam Jones… ugh.

When does Jones’ name get equal treatment with Lincecum’s? The trade sucked, Bavasi is an idiot, he is gone, let’s just move on. I get tired of reading about that particular object of criticism.

Can we get excited that Brett Myers may need hip surgery, causing the Phillies to be in desperate need for starting pitching?

I guess the question becomes, what can we get for Bedard and Washburn?

Branyan is hitting better than we could of expected so we should sit on trading him as long as possible.

Aardsma will get some interest too.

I’ve been too busy to keep up on other teams best prospects so who do we go after?

Well, to be honest we need a OF with some pop, and Jones is exactly that.

To do a Bedard for Jones would be a steal for the M’s, and its got nothing to do with the trade.

But it ain’t happening, and its just rosterbation at this point.

Not someone I had thought of… Good point.

I’m all for letting Lowe learn how to close, if needed… Or if that’s even possible, if we can get something for Aardvark.

Any indication of how RRS’ fastball looked?

But the M’s don’t need to get rid of Aardsma. He’s good and cheap and under club control, right? The M’s need to shop those players that are leaving and/or are not all that good.

Also, I recommend referring to Aardsma not as the Aardvark, but the Aardwolf, which is a relative of the hyena that eats mainly insects. Aardwolf sounds cooler than Aardvark, plus, his actress sister Amanda is in a movie entitled “Hyenas.”

OT: Hello adminstrator, there seems to be a little glitch in the site layout. The webpage continues below the blue bar at the bottom with the copyright notice and the log out link. For about a dozen blank screens if you scroll. Directly below the bar is

I am using IE 7 in case that’s relevant.

I’m not going to delete that, but in the future, site issues should be emailed to ussmariner at gmail dot com, not posted in a comment thread.

    Thanks!

“)); is the mark of the Aardwolf. The whitespace that follows represents the game-time thoughts of Yuni.

Get arbitration the next 3 seasons. FA in 2013.

If there is a team willing to trade for him and sees Aardsma as a closer, they might be willing to pay for him accordingly… Maybe… Of course, they might realize he’s a relief pitcher with basically one pitch and limited control.

I don’t understand this. If he’s hitting better than we could “of” expected, wouldn’t that be the exact time to trade him? When his value is at its peak?

Or would it be better to wait until he regresses to the mean, or goes into a horrible slump, and trade him then when his value is lower?

Me too. That would mean Betancourt isn’t a Mariner anymore.

Oh you deranged lunatic. It would mean Fields isn’t a Mariner anymore. As if we could would ever get rid of our beloved Cuban Defector.

Wow, two strikethrough jokes in one post!
