Terse is fine. It worked for Hemingway.

  2. hark on May 29th, 2009 7:15 pm

Ooh, wasted first inning. Nice pitch count, John Lackey. Way to take a few, M’s.

  3. Breadbaker on May 29th, 2009 7:15 pm

Apparently we’re going to make sure John Lackey doesn’t sweat tonight.

  4. Mike Snow on May 29th, 2009 7:16 pm

Lackey decided this is going to be a tersely pitched game.

  5. Marinerfan4life on May 29th, 2009 7:17 pm

Wow glad the Mariners made Lackey work in the first….

  6. Marinerfan4life on May 29th, 2009 7:17 pm

And why the hell is Yuni batting second and Beltre batting third??????

  7. juneau_fan on May 29th, 2009 7:20 pm

I’m a bit confused about what the big decision is when RRS comes back. Jak back to the bullpen, right?

  8. Marinerfan4life on May 29th, 2009 7:20 pm

    Vargas is dealing tonight!

  9. Mike Snow on May 29th, 2009 7:20 pm

Jak is already back in the bullpen. Olson starts Sunday.

  10. hark on May 29th, 2009 7:21 pm

Oh, Dave…Eric Chavez is not our left fielder. =(

    Nice pitching, Vargas.

  11. Marinerfan4life on May 29th, 2009 7:21 pm

If Jak isn’t back in the pen I’m gonna be pissed. RRS deserves to get his rotation spot back!

  12. Marinerfan4life on May 29th, 2009 7:23 pm

The rotation is so jumbled right now. So when the dust settles it’s gonna be:
    -Felix
    -Bedard
    -Washburn
    -Vargas
    -RRS
    Wow a lot of lefties!

  13. hark on May 29th, 2009 7:24 pm

Stupid Griffey shift. That was a good stroke.

  14. juneau_fan on May 29th, 2009 7:27 pm

Speaking of Lopez’s crappy hitting, they’re talking about just that. Oooo..he really wanted to swing at that one….

  15. Marinerfan4life on May 29th, 2009 7:28 pm

Lopez doing what he does best this year!

  16. Mike Snow on May 29th, 2009 7:28 pm

When the dust settles, neither Bedard nor Washburn should be on the team.

  17. Marinerfan4life on May 29th, 2009 7:30 pm

Yeah they’ll both be gone by the break. I’m hoping the Phillies go after Bedard and the Mariners can get some lefty power hitting prospects.

  18. argh on May 29th, 2009 7:32 pm

[missing smart tages...fall out from this afternoon's difficulties?]

  19. Marinerfan4life on May 29th, 2009 7:33 pm

    Wow that was ugly.

  20. hark on May 29th, 2009 7:34 pm

    Marinersfan4life…

Lefty power hitters in Philadelphia. Didn’t they just sign one (granted a non-prospect) that we didn’t sign for which we got compensated with a draft pick?

  21. hark on May 29th, 2009 7:35 pm

    I <3 Jason Vargas.

  22. joser on May 29th, 2009 7:37 pm

Congrats to the UW Softball Team. At least one team from this region is winning games. Danielle Lawrie is a freaking force of nature.

  23. scott19 on May 29th, 2009 7:38 pm

The last time I can remember the M’s *almost* having as many as four lefties in the rotation was the ’96-’97 off-season — until Woody traded Sterling “Five-Inning” Hitchcock to the Hated Friars, that is.

  24. hark on May 29th, 2009 7:41 pm

    Woo, Gutz!

  25. juneau_fan on May 29th, 2009 7:42 pm

Come on, Ichiro, let’s break out of the LOB crap.

  26. joser on May 29th, 2009 7:43 pm

    Damn selfish Ichiro!

  27. scott19 on May 29th, 2009 7:43 pm

    ICHI!!!

  28. juneau_fan on May 29th, 2009 7:44 pm

    HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAAA….even better against Lackey.

“This looks like a ball.” You think?

  29. Breadbaker on May 29th, 2009 7:45 pm

One gets the feeling that Ichiro may have 200 hits by the All-Star break.

  30. naviomelo on May 29th, 2009 7:46 pm

    Ichiro! 22 straight!

  31. Mike Snow on May 29th, 2009 7:47 pm

Danielle Lawrie is a freaking force of nature.

Well, we’ve at least got the guy who drafted her brother last year.

  32. juneau_fan on May 29th, 2009 7:50 pm

If a player’s going to do the crappy popout thing, at least get a run in on it.

  33. scott19 on May 29th, 2009 7:53 pm

Not mentioning any names here, but I’ll betcha the M’s could get more than five wins in two seasons out of Danielle Lawrie if she were in the rotation.

  34. joser on May 29th, 2009 7:53 pm

Well, we’ve at least got the guy who drafted her brother last year.

Say, you know, they’ve got a catcher who bats lefty and leads the team in slugging….

  35. msb on May 29th, 2009 7:56 pm

    Danielle outpitched Strasburg tonight.

Sad that the beachball has gotten the loudest fan reaction.

  36. scott19 on May 29th, 2009 8:02 pm

Sad that the beachball has gotten the loudest fan reaction.

Well, then again, this IS Anaheim…

The fact that a significant number of fans have even arrived at the park yet at this point in the game is amazing.

  37. Breadbaker on May 29th, 2009 8:02 pm

    Rob Johnson, gritty but slow.

  38. msb on May 29th, 2009 8:03 pm

Say, you know, they’ve got a catcher who bats lefty and leads the team in slugging….

    and a sophomore outfielder

  39. DLCheeZ on May 29th, 2009 8:09 pm

    “Mariners Nation?” Puke.

I hope Sims never says that again.

  40. Breadbaker on May 29th, 2009 8:15 pm

Mariners Nation is like “throw it back”, something another team’s fans do that we don’t have to do.

  41. diderot on May 29th, 2009 8:15 pm

Man, this sucks. I had to be in LA tonight for business. Then I saw the M’s and Angels were on the local Fox Sports station.
So I tuned in, and what do I get? A frickin’ replay of the Dodgers game played this afternoon!!!
    WTF!!!

Anyone want to pass a long game details…I’m all ears.

  42. juneau_fan on May 29th, 2009 8:17 pm

Bad hammy for Beltre as we near the trading deadline?

  43. Breadbaker on May 29th, 2009 8:20 pm

    It’s Friday, we’re winning.

  44. Breadbaker on May 29th, 2009 8:21 pm

Okay, whoever is keeping a book on Rivera for the M’s, here’s a hint: don’t throw him a fastball down the middle.

  45. hark on May 29th, 2009 8:32 pm

ZOMG, what great baserunning by Branyan!

  46. DMZ on May 29th, 2009 8:32 pm

    Sorry about that. Fixing things

  47. DMZ on May 29th, 2009 8:33 pm

I just deleted everyone with a .ru email address

I’m in a pretty foul mood

  48. JMHawkins on May 29th, 2009 8:33 pm

Branyan, he can do it all.

  49. scott19 on May 29th, 2009 8:35 pm

Got my code tags back up…thanks Derek!

  50. JR Ewing on May 29th, 2009 8:35 pm

    WTF!!!

Feel free to tune in FSN-West to watch the Mariners game, if you can stand their announcers of course. It’s on DirecTv up here, i would imagine it’s on down there as well.

  51. juneau_fan on May 29th, 2009 8:36 pm

Bloggers get ragged on as living in their parents’ basement, sitting around all day in their PJs on the computer, but that loser description is reserved for hackers and other lazy-asses, that instead of using their computer gifts for positive action in the world, instead, make lots of hard work for an innocuous site like this.

Pitch longer, Vargas, Batista’s warming up.

  52. henryv on May 29th, 2009 8:36 pm

Angels list Lackey as 6’6″ 245…

Not sure I believe either of those numbers.

  53. scott19 on May 29th, 2009 8:38 pm

So I tuned in, and what do I get? A frickin’ replay of the Dodgers game played this afternoon!!!
    WTF!!!

Only thing I can think of is that FSN Prime Ticket thinks there’s more of an audience for the Dodger replay…since, after all, they are playing the Cubs this weekend — who are another one of Faux’s designated “favorite” teams.

  54. Marinerfan4life on May 29th, 2009 8:40 pm

Wow that turned out quite nicely!

  55. henryv on May 29th, 2009 8:40 pm

Did that play help Lopez’s -66.6 UZR?

  56. juneau_fan on May 29th, 2009 8:40 pm

This is so odd…to be making good plays…to see scoring opportunities stifled…and it’s not the M’s on the receiving end!

  57. jvalentine on May 29th, 2009 8:40 pm

In a season that is almost in the books as far as compeating for the al west title I think that Jason Vargas might be able to turn my interest back on.

I love his stuff and the guy knows how to pitch. I think he could turn out to be Z’s best move of the season.

  58. henryv on May 29th, 2009 8:42 pm

    Please Wakawaka, don’t pull Vargas.

  59. hark on May 29th, 2009 8:42 pm

Does anyone ever feel like Ichiro! only gets into slumps because he’s bored with hitting pitching like tee ball?

  60. Breadbaker on May 29th, 2009 8:44 pm

Why is Yuni’s “job” to move the runner over, as opposed to getting on base?

  61. henryv on May 29th, 2009 8:45 pm

Did he just say the Angels have the second highest attendance in all of baseball?

  62. henryv on May 29th, 2009 8:47 pm

Why is Yuni’s “job” to move the runner over, as opposed to getting on base?

You can’t do what you’re not capable of?

  63. henryv on May 29th, 2009 8:48 pm

One pitch thrown anywhere near the plate, and he strikes out…

    Oh well.

  64. juneau_fan on May 29th, 2009 8:50 pm

But see, watching the wasted opportunity for a contact hitter to actually make contact, followed by Beltre’s strike out and Griffey’s fly out, really shows why they call bunts wasting outs.

  65. henryv on May 29th, 2009 8:50 pm

It would be highly inappropriate to say anything about those 19 year old girls and Kobe Bryant here, Dave.

  66. henryv on May 29th, 2009 8:53 pm

    That’s a strike, sir.

  67. henryv on May 29th, 2009 8:56 pm

Rivera said a dirty word, mommy.

  68. Breadbaker on May 29th, 2009 8:56 pm

Why was Yuni not in double play position?

  69. henryv on May 29th, 2009 8:57 pm

Jesus… Just pull Yuni now. That is a double play ball, but with Yuni’s 2 foot range, its a single.

  70. Breadbaker on May 29th, 2009 9:03 pm

What was Blowers mumbling about? Why would we have someone else up? We don’t have any lefties in the pen.

  71. scott19 on May 29th, 2009 9:06 pm

Rizzs just mentioned that what Wak would like to see here is “a ground ball to Betancourt at short”.

Considering his brainfart from just a few minutes ago, I don’t know as though that’s the best course of action.

  72. henryv on May 29th, 2009 9:07 pm

Freaking hell. I’m so tired of Yuniesky Betancourt. I can’t stand this any more.

  73. Breadbaker on May 29th, 2009 9:07 pm

What he really wanted was a groundball to Ozzie Smith at short, but he misspoke.

  74. scott19 on May 29th, 2009 9:08 pm

Heckuva job of pitching there, SW.

  75. fermorules on May 29th, 2009 9:08 pm

Life is not fair when a guy like Beltre can repeatedly have at-bats like that one in the 7th, and still makes 12 million a year and will be coveted by several teams.

Your’re right HenryV, when that ball came off the bat my instinct was to think double play….

    Alas, with Yuni’s range….

  76. hark on May 29th, 2009 9:10 pm

    !@*% you, Juan Rivera.

  77. Breadbaker on May 29th, 2009 9:10 pm

Juan Rivera, Mariner killer. That was a helluva catch.

  78. JerBear on May 29th, 2009 9:10 pm

    Dude got robbed!!!

  79. scott19 on May 29th, 2009 9:10 pm

    Damn!

    Awesome catch, though…

  80. Breadbaker on May 29th, 2009 9:11 pm

    One foot farther.

  81. juneau_fan on May 29th, 2009 9:11 pm

    BWWAAHHHH!!!

Good way to have your teammate’s back, Lopez.

  82. hark on May 29th, 2009 9:11 pm

Wow. Nice Jose…and so close again, Juan.

  83. JerBear on May 29th, 2009 9:11 pm

Ha! Lopez says “Bet you can’t do that again!”

  84. scott19 on May 29th, 2009 9:11 pm

A perfect example of the Deja Vu Only Better theory.

  85. Marinerfan4life on May 29th, 2009 9:12 pm

Wow Rivera cheated on Branyan’s blast. Lopez remembered that it’s Yuni’s job to ground into DP’s and finally hits one out!

  86. Breadbaker on May 29th, 2009 9:14 pm

Way to look for your pitch, Rob.

  87. jordan on May 29th, 2009 9:15 pm

How insane would two in a row have been by Rivera… I’ll admit that a deep part of me hoped he would have robbed it, just so I could have witnessed something like that.

  88. Scottdids on May 29th, 2009 9:22 pm

Can Lowe get any luckier tonight??

  89. Breadbaker on May 29th, 2009 9:23 pm

    History’s biggest hit: not.
    Perhaps the History Channel’s.

  90. Breadbaker on May 29th, 2009 9:23 pm

    History’s biggest hit: not.
    Perhaps the History Channel’s.

  91. juneau_fan on May 29th, 2009 9:34 pm

This is actually a fun game. (As long as we win.)

  92. zzyzx on May 29th, 2009 9:34 pm

    What great catches all around.

  93. JerBear on May 29th, 2009 9:34 pm

    Ichiro!

  94. Scottdids on May 29th, 2009 9:34 pm

Ichiro!!! Way to make Double A look good.

  95. juneau_fan on May 29th, 2009 9:34 pm

We’re better bunters than they are. We have more practice.

  96. Breadbaker on May 29th, 2009 9:35 pm

    Juan Rivera,
    Reached on an error

    Dave Sims: poet

  97. Breadbaker on May 29th, 2009 9:39 pm

Do we always have to get to this point?

  98. Scottdids on May 29th, 2009 9:39 pm

    Yes?

  99. hark on May 29th, 2009 9:40 pm

    Uno mas.

  100. Flowin on May 29th, 2009 9:40 pm

Come on.. just get this final strike.

    Deja vu.

  101. Breadbaker on May 29th, 2009 9:41 pm

    Nice punch out.

  102. hark on May 29th, 2009 9:41 pm

Wooooo! Two wins in a row. Wooooo!

  103. scott19 on May 29th, 2009 9:45 pm

Despite Aards’ Mesa moment, way to save it for Vargas — who finally gets a win!

  104. scott19 on May 29th, 2009 9:49 pm

Oh good…they’re starting the fireworks in Anaheim.

Maybe that’ll drown out Blow’s “analysis”.

  105. Breadbaker on May 29th, 2009 9:50 pm

I wonder how many calls Z is getting for Vargas (and is diverting to “don’t you want to talk about Washburn?”

  106. SonOfZavaras on May 29th, 2009 9:50 pm

I had every confidence the M’s would win today- today’s May 29th, my birthday. And they usually win on my birthday.

I’d love to know their all-time record on that date, but every year (except last, I think) they seem to get the “W” on this day.

  107. TomTuttle on May 29th, 2009 9:55 pm

Well, that was a close shave. . .

  108. henryv on May 29th, 2009 10:01 pm

I had every confidence the M’s would win today- today’s May 29th, my birthday.

Its my sister’s birthday too! And her 18th!

    Happy Birthday Zavaras.

  109. georgmi on May 29th, 2009 10:25 pm

Heh. My son turned seven today.

My birthday is in October; I believe I’m still waiting for a meaningful W on my birthday.

  110. Scottdids on May 29th, 2009 10:34 pm

Jason Vargas is stealing my man crush away from Franklin Gutierrez.

  111. Marinerfan4life on May 29th, 2009 10:52 pm

Why would we deal away Vargas?!?!?!?!

  112. jmb13 on May 30th, 2009 12:53 am

My birthday is in October; I believe I’m still waiting for a meaningful W on my birthday.

Me too, the season ALWAYS ends like a week before my bday. The 1995 “double” game happened on my 8th birthday, and I was in the Dome. Now I’m just looking to see us play on that day at least one more time…
