Dual Minor League Game Thread

Dave · June 29, 2009 at 5:51 pm · Filed Under Mariners

No M’s game tonight, so two options for your listening pleasure this evening, both starting at 7:05 pm.

Tacoma at Reno, Seddon vs Petit Etherton.
Everett at Eugene, Stanton vs Greenwood.

There are more prospects on the Rainiers squad (Everett should get a boost when the M’s start signing some of their draft picks), but Northwest League action is always fun to listen to as well, and Pat Dillon does a great job on the call for the Aquasox.

Or, you could always check out the Lake Elsinore-High Desert game and see if they can score 51 runs again tonight…

Petit got pushed back a day and Reno is starting 1998 first round pick Seth Etherton – the first winning pitcher in Reno Aces history, woo!

    So far:

    Tacoma – 0 runs on 0 hits, 1 LOB through 2
    Reno – 1 run on 3 hits, 1 LOB

Clement has an error – airmailed one past 1st and into RF.

How does Clement have an error playing DH? Maybe those concerns about his defense were justified…

Anyone have an updated scouting report on Anthony Varvaro? Remember hearing he was a potentially high pick a few years ago knocked down cause he was undergoing TJ surgery. Now he seems to be doing pretty well in relief with AA. Unfortunately, he has a way lower than usual BABIP, a high strand rate, and his K/BB remains unchanged. Is his low ERA at West Tenn so far entirely a result of great luck, or is he still anything of a prospect?

Seth Etherton. With all due respect (in Ricky Bobby style), he’s one pitch away from another injury. He seemed to have potential at some point. Good luck to him.

Why, oh why are we freaking bunting like we are? At least we got lucky that time…

    In the 6th:

    Tacoma – 0 on 4 hits
    Reno – 2 on 6 hits

Shit. Can someone teach Mr. Brown on when to send players and when to hold them?

  9. nvn8vbryce on June 29th, 2009 9:10 pm

I got Quiroz and Clement mixed up earlier…

  10. nvn8vbryce on June 29th, 2009 9:25 pm

Reno native, Randy Messenger toeing the rubber for Tacoma, 4-3 Rainiers in the bottom of the 8th.

What happened to Saunders? Gamecast deal said injury delay and there was a PR.

  14. nvn8vbryce on June 29th, 2009 10:09 pm

The wheels on the bus have fallen off… 7-4 Aces.

  15. nvn8vbryce on June 29th, 2009 10:10 pm

    Quad or hammy on Saunders.

nvn8vbryce: How bad did it look?

  17. msb on June 29th, 2009 10:20 pm

Curto said as Owens came up to bat for Saunders that Saunders “appeared to strain a hamstring”

  18. nvn8vbryce on June 29th, 2009 10:22 pm

He should be day to day… Slid in a little too hard.

Thanks for the update nvn. I was just down in Reno this past week and was bummed to see I was missing out on Tacoma being there. The park looked really nice, too.

  20. nvn8vbryce on June 29th, 2009 10:27 pm

Well, this is interesting. Tied 7 – 7 bottom 9th.

  21. nvn8vbryce on June 29th, 2009 10:29 pm

This is my first time here… This is a beautiful park.

  22. nvn8vbryce on June 29th, 2009 10:58 pm

Tied 7 to 7 top 11… Neither team wants to win.

  23. SequimRealEstate on June 30th, 2009 12:33 am

Reno wins 8-7 in the 11th.

  24. nvn8vbryce on June 30th, 2009 3:30 pm

Here are my thoughts from the game last night:

    1) Randy Messenger was left in WAAAYYYY too long last night. The same goes for all our relief corps.

    2) Walk Trent Oeltjen more often when playing Reno. He’s a beast that should be up with the D’Backs in no time flat.

    3) Oswaldo Navarro SHOULD NOT be considered to fill Mr. DFA’s shoes at SS.

  25. Gomez on June 30th, 2009 11:13 pm

How did Oswaldo Navarro look, defensively at SS and at the plate? What did you observe that indicated he’s a poor callup option?
